In 2006, the Chamber established the annual “Hall of Fame” Award. The criteria for this award includes being a member of the Lee’s Summit Chamber for a minimum of 10 years, showing continuous active involvement through financial and volunteer support and being respected throughout the community. Each recipient has had a significant positive impact and has consistently exemplified the philosophy, value and mission of the Chamber. The Chamber welcomes Spilker McKeone & Nelson PC! Spilker McKeone & Nelson PC, certified public accountants licensed to practice in Missouri and Kansas, has been a member of the Chamber since the company’s inception in 1999. Both the business and the individual partners have remained very active with the Chamber. A bronze partner of the Chamber, the business has sponsored Lunch with Leaders, Breakfast for Champions, the Golf Classic and Cocktails & Caddies. They generously donate their time and resources for Chamber events and can be seen at most events. Chamber Member Award Recipients Honored at 2017 Annual Gala Each year at the Chamber’s Annual Gala, recognition is given to Chamber members who have donated much time and energy helping for the greater good of the Chamber and the community. These members attend as many events as possible, are always available when needed and include the Chamber as a part of their lives on a frequent basis. Volunteer of the Year

Jan Sumner, an individual member, has consistently volunteered for the Health Care Committee, Golf Task Force, as well as the Gala Task Force and Operation Thank You. She will serve as chair of the Ambassador Committee in 2017. Sumner attends almost every event including, ribbon cuttings, and mentors new members. Sumner also is a member of the 2016 Chairman’s Club.

Joey Zarrillo, co-owner of Money Mailer of Jackson County, jumped right in and attends a variety of Chamber events, including ribbon cuttings, Recess for Success, Before Hours, After Hours, Business Field Trips and monthly luncheons. He’s served as a ribbon-cutting emcee, recruited new members and served as a mentor. Zarrillo will co-chair the Membership Committee in 2017.

New Member of the Year Amberlynn Isaacs, a family law attorney with Short, Borth & Thilges Attorneys at Law PC, is a 2016 graduate of Leadership Lee’s Summit. She serves on the Oktoberfest Committee, actively participating in the Grape Stomp sub-committee. Isaacs attends Young Professional events, the Annual Gala and went to Jefferson City for Legislative Day in 2016. Isaacs AMBERLYNN ISAACS also serves on the Annual Gala and Golf Task Forces.

Tim Denker, attorney with Denker Law Firm, has mentored many new members and is always willing to take on new mentees. Denker was appointed to the board of directors in 2015 and now serves on the Executive Committee. He has been involved in many committees including Young Professionals, Business Development, Governmental Relations and Legislative and also graduated Leadership Lee’s Summit.

Mike Maksin, area director of N2 Publishing, recruited 9.5 new members into the Chamber in 2016, giving him top honors in the 2016 Chairman’s Club. Not only is he present at nearly every Chamber event, he serves on multiple committees and the board of directors. He also participates in the golf tournament and Leadership Lee’s Summit, and serves as a mentor.

Craig Harris, retired owner of Beacon Press, was a faithful luncheon attendee and member of the Business Development Council for many years. Members of the Chamber Team Honored at Mayor’s Character Breakfast

Two members of the Chamber team were honored at the Mayor’s Character Breakfast on January 26 at The Pavilion at John Knox Village. The event featured keynote speaker Carey Casey and awards for each of the qualities making up a Champion of Character. Those traits are: courage, cooperation, honesty, perseverance, appreciation, sportsmanship, citizenship, family, respect, responsibility, self-control and kindness. Anne Aubuchon, the Chamber’s administrative assitant, was honored with the Cooperation Award, and Chair Emeritus Vic Cundiff’s business, Weed Man, received the Business in Ethics Award. Anne Aubuchon, recipient of the Cooperation Award, has committed herself to the Lee’s Summit community and volunteered for countless organizations. Whether its working the front desk at Hope House, organizing a fundraiser for Saint Luke’s East or Lee’s Summit CARES, or keepnig the food panty stocked at Pro Deo Youth Center, Anne is there to step up to the plate. Anne chaired the Got Talent competition for five years, where her creativity, arts enthusiasm and commitment to perfection led to the development of a show beloved throughout the metro area. Anne also volunteers her time and resources serving on the board of directors for Pro Deo Youth Center.

Weed Man was chosen by the Business Sector of the Community of Character for the 2017 Business in Ethics Award. Jon and Vic Cundiff, owners, have received multiple awards for acheivements in Lee’s Summit and the metro area. Weed Man trains their employees to “undersell, overproduce” and educate customers on the realistic needs of their lawn. Customers remain the number one priority, and that guides their decision making. The company strives to treat each and every customer with respect. Jon and Vic also mentor not only employees, but other businesses in the industry who are seeking guidance. Jon, Vic and their Weed Man team have voluneteered countless hours for various organizations and strive to be active citizens in the community. They’ve participated in several events, ethics workshops, DECA judging, entrepreneurial teams and more. Weed Man also sponsors several sports teams, golf tournaments and other local fundraisers. Congratulations to all of the award winners, and thank you for working to make our community a great place to live, work and raise a family.


Chamber to Award Five $1,000 Scholarships to High School Seniors Each year the Lee’s Summit Chamber of Commerce Education Committee awards five $1,000 scholarships to high school seniors. One scholarship winner is selected from each of the three Lee’s Summit public high schools, a private high school and one from a school outside of the district. One of the applicant’s parents must be a full-time employee of a Chamber member. Applicants are evaluated based on the following criteria: • A strong work ethic • A commitment to community involvement • An endless pursuit of continued growth and improvement in all facets of their lives Interested students must have at least a 3.0 grade point average and submit a completed application no later than February 10, 2017. Join the Chamber for the Missouri-D.C. Fly-In Join the Chamber for the Missouri-D.C. Fly-In April 4-6 in Washington, D.C. A group of Missouri delegates of the Missouri Chamber Advocacy mission will meet with members of the Missouri congressional delegation and discuss in person the federal issues impacting Missouri’s business community. The registration cost is $399 per person. Delegates are responsible for making their own airfare and hotel arrangements. Hop on the Train for Legislative Day in Jefferson City

Jump on board the Amtrak on Tuesday, April 11 and join fellow Chamber members for a full day in Jefferson City where you’ll hear from legislators and state officials, tour the State Capitol, attend sessions and network with other members. The day begins at 8:15 a.m. and returns to Lee’s Summit at 8:50 p.m. The cost to attend is $60 per person and space is limited. The deadline to register is Thursday, March 2. Member Events & News Chocolate Crawl for a Cause Set for February 4 in Downtown Lee’s Summit Downtown Lee’s Summit Main Street is hosting its annual Chocolate Crawl for a Cause event starting at noon on Saturday, February 4 in Downtown Lee’s Summit, Mo. Again this year, participants are asked to bring a small donation to benefit Lee’s Summit Social Services this winter season. Donation preferences are monetary and non-perishable food items and can be dropped off at GOT Art Gallery from noon-4 p.m the day of the event. In return for the gift, the first 750 shoppers will be given a special Lee’s Summit chocolate bar (courtesy of MCC-Longview and Lee’s Summit Chamber of Commerce), an event wristband and a downtown map. The wristband allows for participation in promotions and discounts that day as a special thank you from Downtown Lee’s Summit shops and restaurants for the donation to our community. Participating stores will be highlighted on the downtown map given to shoppers so they can easily find the businesses providing promotions and discounts. Shoppers can use the map or follow the balloons for chocolate treats, discounts, and Valentine’s Day shopping.

Pro Deo Youth Center Trivia Night Returns on March 3 Pro Deo Youth Center’s Trivia Night is 7 p.m. March 3, at Paradise Park. The fun evening, sponsored by Paradise Park, will have raffle prizes throughout the night, a cash bar and $400 cash grand prize. Teams of up to eight players are encouraged to decorate their tables, with a bonus prize for the best decorated table.
