Chamber Announces New Staff, Publications and Office Space The Lee’s Summit Chamber of Commerce has big plans for 2015. Recently, the organization announced two new hires, new publications and the expansion of their office space. This month the Chamber gains additional office space when the Lee’s Summit History Museum moves out of their current location, 220 SE Main Street, and into their new location at 220 SW Main Street. The additional space allows the Chamber to achieve a long-term goal of bringing all publications in-house for production.

Darla Hall

Advertising Manager

In the past, the Chamber has partnered with other companies to produce publications such as their membership directory, health care directory, visitors guide and more. Producing these and future publications in-house has led to the addition of new positions. The Chamber is pleased to announce the hiring of Darla Hall in the role of Advertising Manager. Hall comes to the Chamber from Lee’s Summit Lifestyle magazine, and prior to that The Lee’s Summit Journal and Kansas City Star. She brings a wealth of knowledge in what it takes to produce successful publications as well as a passion for helping businesses. “As a longtime volunteer of the Chamber and a Lee’s Summit resident, I am thrilled to join the Chamber staff,” said Advertising Manager Darla Hall. “I am looking forward to providing Chamber members with targeted business-to-business options to strategically focus their advertising dollars by utilizing the many Chamber publications we provide. For instance, did you know that the Chamber publishes a quarterly magazine, recently branded the Business Catalyst, that goes to every licensed business in Lee’s Summit as well as every Lee’s Summit Chamber member?”

Gina Seibel Creative Director

Stephanie Kusek

Director of Communications

Additionally, Seibel will work with Community Marketing Manager Jim McKenna to design creative materials for the community. Filling Seibel’s vacancy is Stephanie Kusek. Kusek first came to the organization as a Community Marketing Intern in June 2013. Since then she has worked parttime with Downtown Lee’s Summit Main Street and part-time on Community Branding. Kusek earned her journalism degree from the University of Kansas. “My experience so far with the Chamber has been a great one,” said Stephanie Kusek. “I am excited to be onboard fulltime and look forward to getting to know all of our Chamber members who make Lee’s Summit such a great place.” Depot renovations begin in a few weeks, and the Chamber plans to hold a ribbon cutting when complete to showcase the new space.

Hall will work side-by-side with Gina Seibel to produce all publications. Seibel has worked at the Chamber nearly five years as the director of communications, but will now serve as the organization’s creative director. “Gina has a passion for this community and for graphic design,” said Chamber President Nancy Bruns. “Having Gina switch roles to Creative Director was an easy choice to make. She has won several design awards, and I know between her and Darla, they will create publications that will make the organization proud.”

Nominate a Lee’s Summit Community Hero As part of Lee’s Summit’s Sesquicentennial Celebration in 2015, the Truly 150 Steering Committee will honor 150 individuals for their distinguished contribution to the progress, culture, and general welfare of the Lee’s Summit community. Each honoree will receive a commemorative medallion. We need your help in identifying our “Community Heroes.” If you know of anyone you believe is deserving of such recognition, please fill out the form at Truly150.com. Fill in as much contact information as you can for the nominee, and explain why you believe your nominee is worthy of this recognition. You may submit as many nominations as you like, and self-nominations are welcomed. Awards are limited to living honorees but the honoree need not currently live in Lee’s Summit. It is important to keep in mind that our community has far more than 150 people who have provided substantial contributions to the community and who are deserving of our gratitude. However, we are limiting this particular recognition to 150. Please do not be offended if your nominee is not selected for a medallion. It is not an indication that the nominee’s role in the community is not appreciated.

All nominations will remain confidential. Only the selection committee will know the names of those who are not chosen for recognition, and only the selection committee will know who submitted a nomination. Nominations must be submitted no later than February 27, 2015.

Yours Truly,

The Truly 150 Steering Committee

staff members, students and families. During the presentation, Dr. McGehee praised the district’s almost 2,600 employees and R-7 students as well as the entire community for their important roles in the successful school system.

The Ethics in Business Award is a community-wide recognition presented to Lee’s Summit businesses and individuals who exhibit outstanding ethical practices. To be considered for the Ethics in Business Award, an organization or individual must complete a comprehensive application, obtain references and administer a survey to employees. The R-7 School District officially reorganized in 1949 when 16 rural districts combined with the Greenwood School District and the Lee’s Summit City District. In 1949, the district enrollment was approximately a little over 1,200. Today, more than 17,500 students attend the district’s 28 schools. The district is governed by a seven-member elected Board of Education, and all Board members serve as unpaid volunteers.
