The Lee’s Summit Chamber of Commerce is just weeks away from the 2018 Annual Gala, set for 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, at The Pavilion at John Knox Village in Lee’s Summit. The Gala is one of the Chamber’s most popular events, including a three-course dinner, live and silent auctions, awards, dancing and more. This year’s 50th Anniversary Gala Royale, a James Bond-themed event, will be an evening of entertainment and mystery, featuring casino games as well as music by DJ Two Tone following the program. Call for Nominations: 2018 Truly the Best Awards The Lee’s Summit Chamber is calling for nominations for the 2018 Truly the Best Business of the Year Awards. The Chamber is recognizing four businesses in separate award categories: • TRULY THE BEST NOT FOR PROFIT – Charitable/Service Agency (More than 20 employees, enter in 20+ Category) • TRULY THE BEST 5 or less full-time equivalent employees • TRULY THE BEST 6-20 full-time equivalent employees • TRULY THE BEST 20+ full-time equivalent employees Criteria for the Truly the Best Business of the Year Awards:

Nomination forms will be available in January and must be returned to the Chamber office by January 26. Nominated businesses will be notified, and completed applications and support documentation must be submitted by February 23. All information on applications will remain confidential. Chamber to Award Five $1,000 Scholarships to High School Seniors Each year, the Lee’s Summit Chamber of Commerce Education Committee awards $1,000 scholarships to college-bound high school seniors. One scholarship winner is selected from each of the three Lee’s Summit public high schools, a Lee’s Summit private high school and one from a school outside of the district. One of the applicant’s parents must be a full-time employee of a Chamber member. Applicants are evaluated based on the following criteria: • A strong work ethic • A commitment to community involvement • An endless pursuit of continued growth and improvement in all facets of their lives Interested students must have at least a 3.0 unweighted grade point average and submit a completed application no later than February 9, 2018. Ribbon Cutting Celebrations Sky Zone Trampoline Park
Claudia’s Closet
Sky Zone Trampoline Park celebrated a ribbon cutting on November 30 at 2801 NE McBaine Dr.
On December 7, Claudia’s Closet hosted a ribbon cutting at its new location at 3801B S. 291 Highway.
Sky Zone’s wall-to-wall trampolines are now complemented by a warrior course, warped wall, sky ladder, climbing wall and jousting. These recent renovations are all part of the park’s plan to revitalize healthy activities for children. Sky Zone also offers private rooms and special events. skyzone.com

Chamber and R-7 School District Accepting Teacher of the Year Nominations
When you hear the phrase “outstanding teacher,” who comes to mind? You may want to nominate this person for the Lee’s Summit Chamber of Commerce Excellence In Teaching/R-7 Teacher of the Year Award. Twelve R-7 teachers will receive the Excellence In Teaching Award. Each award recipient will also become a finalist for the R-7 School District’s annual Teacher of the Year Award. The district’s Teacher of the Year goes on to compete in the Missouri State Teacher of the Year program. Any teacher, pre-kindergarten through 12th grade, and any guidance counselor or library/media specialist is eligible for the program. Former Excellence In Teaching Award winners are eligible to interview for the R-7 School District Teacher of the Year Award if nominated, although they are not be able to win the Excellence In Teaching Award again. The recognized teachers will be selected by a committee composed of R-7 staff and representatives from the Chamber of Commerce and the community. The 12 Excellence In Teaching winners will be announced in April and honored at an April 11 reception in The Aspen Room at The Stanley. The Teacher of the Year will be announced at the reception. Nomination forms are being sent home with R-7 students in January. Forms may also be downloaded by visiting lsr7. org and selecting the Excellence In Teaching and Teacher of the Year option or call 816.986.1017. The deadline for nominations is Jan. 31.

Join the Lee’s Summit and Missouri Chambers in Washington, D.C. Be part of the annual group of Missouri delegates of the Missouri Chamber of Commerce and Industry Advocacy Mission to Washington, D.C. on March 19-21, 2018. The Missouri delegation will meet with members of Missouri’s congressional delegation and discuss, in person, federal issues that impact Missouri’s business community. The registration cost is $399 per person. Delegates are responsible for making their own airfare and hotel arrangements. Filing for Office: April 3, 2018 Municipal Election Elections for Municipal Officials serving the City of Lee’s Summit are held in even-numbered years. Lee’s Summit is a Charter form of government, setting the terms for all city councilmembers to four years in length. With an eight-member Council, terms for half the Council and one municipal judge will expire every even-numbered year. The position of Mayor is also a four-year term. No councilmember or mayor may serve more than two consecutive terms. There are no limits for municipal judges. Declarations of candidacy for Mayor, Councilmember in Districts 1, 2, 3 and 4; and, Municipal Judge, Municipal Division 263 of the Sixteenth Judicial Circuit, may be filed in person with the City Clerk until 5 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16. The Office of the City Clerk is located on the first floor in City Hall, 220 SE Green St. The deadline for voter registration is March 7, 2018.
