Chamber Hires New Director of Special Events The Lee’s Summit Chamber is excited to introduce Stacy Needels as the new director of special events. Needels has years of experience working events and festivals in Lee’s Summit and the Kansas City metro area. She began at the Chamber on June 16. Most recently, Needels served as development manager for JDRF, formerly known as the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, in Kansas City. Her responsibilities included managing the JDRF One Walk program and the silent auction of the Dream Gala, an event that raised more than two million dollars for type one diabetes research. Prior to that, Needels was the events and promotions director for Downtown Lee’s Summit Main Street, where she coordinated the Downtown Days Festival and Piccadilly Gala, along with many other events. She brings extensive knowledge of the details that go into events, whether they are small functions or 5-block festivals. Needels also has strong connections to the Lee’s Summit community. “I am so happy to be back in Lee’s Summit,” said Needels. “The Chamber is an incredible organization and I’m really looking forward to working with everyone.” Needels provides staff support for the Leadership Lee’s Summit program, education committee, annual gala and golf task forces and Oktoberfest committee. “Stacy has a great work ethic and knows the hard work that goes into making events successful,” said Nancy Bruns, president of the Chamber. “We are excited to have her on staff to continue strengthening Chamber events.”

Get Ready to Shop, Shop, Shop Lee’s Summit The popular Shop Lee’s Summit contest returns this summer. Shop five Lee’s Summit businesses August 10 through Labor Day, turn in your receipts and you could win $1,000 in Chamber Checks. No catches, no spamming, we just want to reward Lee’s Summit residents for keeping their sales tax dollars in our city. Remember, it’s not about how MUCH you spend, it’s about WHERE you spend it. Visit LSChamber.com to download and submit an entry form, or visit the Lee’s Summit Chamber of Commerce at 220 SE Main Street in Downtown Lee’s Summit. When you shop, dine, and explore right here in Lee’s Summit, you generate sales tax dollars to meet the needs of your community. Sales tax revenue helps provide funding for our streets, parks, schools, fire and police departments. Think about it - would you even consider calling the Overland Park or Independence Police or Fire Departments in case of an emergency? Of course not. Yet, when we shop in another community, we’re underfunding our own community. Supporting Lee’s Summit not only generates additional
sales tax – it also helps our local businesses maintain a healthy local job market and ensure future growth. When businesses grow, so do the opportunities for them to add jobs and also to give back to our community, to our schools and non profits who benefit so much from their support. The Lee’s Summit Chamber of Commerce is proud of the community we serve. We understand the importance of doing business right here in the community in which we live, work and play, and we hope that you do too. So we ask you to Shop Smart. Shop Lee’s Summit.
Where to Shop... Whether you’re into one-of-a-kind finds at local shops or name brands at national retailers, you’ll find it in Lee’s Summit. Visit LStourism.com for shop listings.
