Chamber Board of Directors Names Matt Baird as New President The Lee’s Summit Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors announced on Friday, February 21, that Matt Baird will lead the organization as its new President. Baird has been an integral part of the Chamber staff for the past five years and has served in the role of interim President during the vacancy of the position. A national search for the position began in November of 2019 under the guidance of a selection task force appointed by the Board of Directors. Many résumés were reviewed by the task force, followed by phone interviews, and final onsite interviews earlier this month. The task force presented Baird as the recommendation to the board on Wednesday, February 19, where he was unanimously approved. Baird joined the Chamber team as Director of Business and Governmental Relations in 2015, providing legislative advocacy and stewardship for local businesses within the Chamber’s membership. Prior to joining the Chamber, he served as the Practice Administrator for HCA Midwest Physicians and co-owned a successful residential and commercial real estate firm in Lee’s Summit. Throughout his career, Baird has garnered extensive experience to become a dedicated advocate for the growth of large and small businesses at the local, state and national levels. Baird and his wife Jennifer, an attorney and partner with Lauber Municipal Law, have two children, Jackson and Emma. He is a dedicated family man that enjoys coaching his kids and attending each of their sporting events. “We are thrilled to have Matt on board as the new President. Matt’s leadership style, established rapport with our members and staff, and his love for Lee’s Summit made him stand out as the right choice for this important role within our organization,” said Trisha Goodale, Chair of the Board. “He did a tremendous job as the interim President and we are excited to build upon that momentum as we start the next chapter for the Lee’s Summit Chamber of Commerce.” Following the announcement, Baird said, “I am humbled and honored to be named the President of this outstanding organization. Having been an active citizen in Lee’s Summit over the last 16 years and a part of the Lee’s Summit Chamber as both an active member and staff person, I bring a unique experience to the position. I look forward to building upon the success this staff has worked so hard to accomplish, ensuring our members are represented and have a voice in this great community.”

Lee’s Summit Chamber Supports LSR7 No Tax Increase Bond Issue and the City of Lee’s Summit’s Use Tax Ballot Initiative The Lee’s Summit Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors has endorsed and offered their support for both the LSR7 224 Million No-Tax Increase Bond initiative and the City of Lee’s Summit’s Use Tax ballot initiative. Both items will appear on the April 7, 2020 ballot. We believe the no tax increase bond will provide the necessary upgrades needed to keep Lee’s Summit as one of the premier school districts in the region and state. With lost revenue to everyday city services, we believe the use tax will replenish those lost dollars and ensure the Lee’s Summit community is properly prepared to address all public concerns, from public safety to neighborhood park renovations. The Lee’s Summit Chamber supports the LSR7 No Tax Increase Bond issue and the City of Lee’s Summit’s use tax ballot initiative and we encourage the citizens of Lee’s Summit and our business community to show their support for by voting yes on April 7!

No Routine Musical: Summit Theatre Delivers Vibrant ‘Ordinary Days’ Finding humor, love and, yes, music in New York, this Summit Theatre Group production follows four characters whose lives intersect and connect in amazing ways. “Ordinary Days” follows four young New Yorkers through mundane and not-so-plain times in their lives. Using a vibrant and memorable score, the experiences of these young men and women ring true for anyone who has toiled to appreciate simple things in a sometimes complex world. “Ordinary Days tells a comedic yet poignant story that is relevant to us all,” said director Stan Cole (Blue Springs). “Our four characters may only be in their 20s and 30s, but they face many of the same challenges that have confronted all generations, including Millennials and young people today: how to fit in with society, dealing with relationship difficulties, making tough career choices and coping with personal loss. “Audiences will fall in love with these relatable characters, the mix of comedy and drama and the gorgeous piano score.” Taylor Arri (Kansas City) plays Deb in the production and Betsy Bledsoe (Kansas City) takes the stage as Claire. Lee’s Summit’s Jared Hill is Jason and Arthur Clifford (Kansas City) portrays Warren. Music Director Becca Stabno and Stage Manager Betsy Sexton are both from Lee’s Summit; Brad Shaw (set designer) hails from Kansas City; Philip Leonard (lighting designer) from Shawnee, Kan.; Dennis Case (sound designer) from Overland Park, Kan.; and Brad Rackers (props) from Lee’s Summit. “I have thoroughly enjoyed bringing Ordinary Days to life with this talented cast and crew,” Cole said. “They have each performed and worked in numerous community and professional theatres across the KC metro area, so they come to rehearsal each night with a great sense of professionalism and a work ethic second to none.” “Ordinary Days” runs March 6-7, 13-14 at 7:30 p.m. and March 15 at 2:30 p.m. at the MCC-Longview’s Cultural Arts Center, 500 SW Longview Road in Lee’s Summit. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door. Tickets can be purchased at www.summittheatre.org.
