Participate in the Community Blood Drive on March 5 at City Hall The City of Lee’s Summit, in partnership with the Community Blood Center (CBC), and Lee’s Summit Police and Fire departments will host a community blood drive on Monday, March 5 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Howard Conference Room (second floor) of Lee’s Summit City Hall, 220 SE Green Street. to 2016, which is an average of 24 units more from each blood drive. That’s enough units to save or impact over 240 lives! “Lee’s Summit has always been a community of generous, giving people. It only takes 30 minutes to step up and be a hero with your donation,” said Lee’s Summit Police Chief Travis Forbes.

This is the community’s opportunity to collect blood to supply local hospitals, including those in Lee’s Summit, to help save lives. The City’s goal is to collect 40 units of blood during the event. “You never know when life will throw you a curve with an accident or illness; the life you save with a donation may be your own or a family member,” said Lee’s Summit Fire Assistant Chief Jim Eden. Thanks to our community, the City of Lee’s Summit was honored by the CBC as a ‘Top Organization of 2017’. The City was able to collect 120 more units in 2017 compared

Join the madness! The Chamber Young Professionals are hosting a bracket challenge open to all members. The cost is $5 per bracket. The winner will receive a gift card and will get to select a Chamber nonprofit of their choice to receive all the money raised! Keep an eye out for an email with details as it gets closer.

The requirements to donate blood are few. Donors must be in good health, weigh a minimum of 115 pounds and be at least 17 years of age (16 yrs. with parental consent). It is also important to drink plenty of fluids and eat a good meal prior to a blood donation. While walk-ups are permitted on the day of the blood drive, it is preferred that donors sign-up in advance. Doing so will prevent waiting long periods of time to donate blood. For more information, contact the City’s blood drive organizer Stephanie Walters at (816) 969-1870.

Summit Christian Academy Head of School named to Icon of Education List Summit Christian Academy (SCA) is pleased to announce that Head of School Linda Harrelson has been named to the “2018 Icon of Education” list published by Ingram’s Magazine. Mrs. Harrelson is the first private K-12 educator to make the list out of the 95 honorees in the program’s first 10 years. Linda Harrelson joins the 2018 Icon of Education list along with nine other educators including University Presidents at Avila, Kansas Medical Center, Saint Louis University, Missouri Southern State, Kansas State, Wichita State, Emporia State, Maryville University, and the Superintendent of Kansas, KS Public Schools. “Mrs. Harrelson constantly focuses all of us on our mission, “To inspire students to achieve their God-given potential through excellent academics and Christian training in a compassionate environment,” shared SCA Board President David Drum. “She continues to remind us that this takes engaged, spiritually growing, and excellent teachers, coaches and directors who are leader-mentors of our kids, in addition to strong and highly motivated administrators using their unique gifts and talents.” Ingram’s recognition program recognizes the finest talent that the region has to offer in various industries including executives, entrepreneurs, healthcare law and education. “What we don’t see in this recognition is the many lives that have been touched and shaped, and the lives of generations behind them. THIS is what Summit Christian Academy is focused on,” shared Drum. “Because we know our school spirit lasts for eternity. And the impact of quiet, hard-working servant-leaders, who choose to grow daily in their spiritual walk with God and apply their faith to the circumstances at home, work and community, are the invisible heroes that make the United States of America truly a great nation with international and historical impact.”
