CANDIDATE FORUM The Chamber is hosting the LSR-7 School Board Candidate Forum from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 13 at the Missouri Innovation Campus, 1101 NW Innovation Pkwy. Eight candidates have filed to run for two available three-year terms on the Lee’s Summit R-7 Board of Education. Get Your Team Together for Chamber Challenge on April 25 Back for another year is the popular Chamber Challenge, a fundraiser for Lee’s Summit tourism, which will be held from noon-5 p.m. Thursday, April 25 at Paradise Park (rain date May 2). Grab your co-workers, committee members, neighbors, board of directors, etc. and get your team together for a day of team building, fun competitions and networking in the fresh air. The afternoon features seven team challenges, lunch, awards ceremony and more. Awards will be given to the gold, silver and bronze teams, as well as a team spirit award – so start planning those team uniforms! Challenges will run on a points system and include sand volleyball, team relays, dodgeball, Paradise Park pong and more. Teams can also bring spectators to cheer them on throughout the afternoon. Member News & Events Downtown Lee’s Summit named Great Neighborhood by the American Planning Association The Missouri Chapter of the American Planning Association (APA) has announced the designation of three Great Places in Missouri in 2019: Silver Moon Plaza, Chillicothe; High Street, Jefferson City; Downtown Lee’s Summit, Lee’s Summit. The Great Places in Missouri program was started in 2014 to recognize neighborhoods, streets, and public spaces throughout Missouri that demonstrate exceptional character, quality and planning that enrich communities, facilitate economic growth, and inspire residents and visitors alike. The Great Places in Missouri program was modeled after APA’s Great Places in America Program that
has recognized 290 neighborhoods, streets, and public spaces around the country since 2007. “The 2019 Great Places in Missouri are extraordinary examples of what good planning can do for communities,” said Jason Ray, AICP, APA Missouri President. “This year’s awardees are high quality public spaces that encourage community building, create connections between people and their City, implement multiple elements of planning efforts, and promote economic growth. APA Missouri is proud to have such great examples of what good planning can create in our state. We congratulate the communities on this well-deserved honor.” APA Missouri will recognize the 2019 Great Places in Missouri designees at a ceremony on March 6, 2019 at 11 a.m. in the State Capitol Rotunda in Jefferson City.
Prestigious KC Metro Youth Talent Competition to Host Auditions April 18 Talented young people from throughout the Kansas City area are encouraged to audition for Got Talent, the metro area’s premier youth talent competition. Auditions will be April 18 at MCC-Longview Cultural Arts Center, and interested individuals may sign up at LSTalent.com. Early-bird fee for auditions is $25 with the fee increasing to $35 after March 15. Performers selected through the audition process will be showcased at the prestigious Got Talent event, scheduled for 7 p.m. June 1 at the Lee’s Summit High School Performing Arts Center. Tickets for the show are $15.

Got Talent is open to young people ages 18 and under. The performers are competing for top awards as well as three scholarships, valued at $1,000, $2,000 and $3,000.
“The competition is open to all types of talent and provides a supportive and affirming environment for the young performers,” Segobia added. A total of 20 acts will be selected during the audition process and will be featured at the June 1 show.

City of Lee’s Summit Hosting Community Blood Drive on March 4 The City of Lee’s Summit, in partnership with the Community Blood Center, is hosting a Community Blood Drive from 11 a.m.–4 p.m. March 4 at City Hall, 220 SE Green St. The Community Blood Center has declared a blood emergency. According to the CBC, winter storms and widespread flu have resulted in a significant drop in donations in recent months. Donors with all blood types are encouraged to register for the upcoming community blood drive. Donors can register at donate.savealifenow.org/donor/schedules/sponsor_code and enter the code “KCJN” to sign up. Donors must be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 115 pounds and be in good overall health. Donors can be 16 years old with written consent from a parent or legal guardian. It is also important to drink plenty of fluids and eat a good meal prior to donating blood. Walk-in donors are allowed, but it is preferred that donors sign up in advance to prevent long wait times. The City’s goal is to collect 68 units of blood. A single pint of blood can save up to three lives. For more information, visit cityofLS.net.
Missouri Central Credit Union Announces Historic Bonus Dividend
Missouri Central Credit Union (MCCU) is excited to announce they have just paid the largest Member Bonus Dividend in their history. Missouri Central Credit Union is a financial cooperative that shares profits with their member/ owners.
