Looking for a short-term commitment where you can make an impact, help plan a fun event and have the opportunity to build relationships with fellow Chamber members? If you answered “yes” to these questions, then the Golf Task Force is FORE you! The Golf Task Force meets monthly March through July, with the final meeting being a wrap-up celebration. This year’s tournament is set for Thursday, June 25 at WinterStone Golf Course, so make sure to save the date! Dr. David Sharp of LSWHS named Missouri High School Principal of the Year Dr. David Sharp, Lee’s Summit West High School principal, was named 2015 Missouri High School Principal of the Year by the Missouri Association of Secondary School Principals during early February. MASSP will officially present the award during its annual Spring Conference at the Lodge of Four Seasons, Lake Ozark, on March 30. Dr. Sharp was awarded the recognition based on his impact in the areas of collaborative leadership; curriculum, instruction and assessment; and his personalization of the learning environment. The selection was made from more than 600 high school principals from throughout Missouri.
“In an era of results-driven accreditation, Dr. Sharp’s leadership has ensured that Lee’s Summit West High School is a shining star in a high-performing school district,” said Dr. David McGehee, Lee’s Summit R-7 superintendent. “This does not happen by chance at a time when demographics are changing and expectations have risen. The Lee’s Summit R-7 School District is proud of the accomplishments of Dr. Sharp and Lee’s Summit West High School. I believe he is a leader of which our entire state can be extremely proud and represents everything we want for our students and education professionals in Missouri.” Dr. Sharp served as assistant principal at Lee’s Summit West from 2004 through 2006 and was the director of Summit Technology Academy before he was named principal at Lee’s Summit West High School.
The Running Well Store Named One of The Best in the Nation The Running Well Store, located at 418 SE MO 291, has for a second year in a row been recognized as one of the 50 best running stores in America by two leading trade and consumer publications, Running Insight and Competitor Magazine. It is the only running store in the KC metropolitan area to receive the honor. “Everyone who works at The Running Well Store is passionate about the sport of running. That enthusiasm is evident in every aspect of our customer experience as we are able to offer every single customer customized attention that fits their running needs,” said
Kathy Gates, owner of The Running Well Store. The store was selected following an extensive nomination and review process that began early in 2014. Formula 4 Media, with the help of Competitor Magazine, began to collect and evaluate nominations from runners, soliciting feedback from consumers on their favorite running stores. A panel of industry experts from Franklin Resource Group mystery shopped each store to evaluate it on 20 different aspects of retailing, including product knowledge, environment and community involvement. page 9
