The Official Newsletter of the Lee's Summit Chamber

Chamber Continues to Work Hard on Governmental Relations The Lee’s Summit Chamber is actively engaged in, and committed to, representing the business community at all levels of government. Our legislative program is interconnected to all aspects of the Chamber’s activities. So far in 2011, the Chamber has established its legislative priorities and agenda, has plans underway for both a Jefferson City and a Washington DC trip and is co-hosting an R-7 School Board Candidate Forum with the Lee’s Summit Journal.

LEGISLATIVE

PRIORITIES & AGENDA

The Chamber is continually monitoring legislation and political activities at all levels of government. The following have been deemed priorities for this year in Lee’s Summit: •

Support aggressive office, industrial and commercial growth and redevelopment to help balance the tax base and create good paying jobs.

• Support Angel Investor Tax Credit legislation to elevate entrepreneurship and attract external risk capital to the City of Lee’s Summit. • Encourage the City of Lee’s Summit and the Missouri Department of Transportation to pursue creative funding methods for the reconstruction of the M-291/US 50 Highway Interchange. • Strongly support and pursue full funding for the reconstruction of Lee’s Summit Road from Colbern Road to Highway 40. • Support legislation that protects the viability of the Unemployment Trust Fund while balancing the interest of small businesses. Exciting New Program

Chamber Leads Groups to Launch this Spring The Lee’s Summit Chamber Leads Groups (CLG) are composed of small business professionals who are looking to increase their revenue by forming relationships with other Chamber members. The purpose is to exchange direct client referrals and leads and provide a forum for the discussion of issues which businesses commonly encounter. By joining a CLG, businesses have the opportunity to multiply their exposure by educating fellow CLG members about their business, so when the occasion presents itself, CLG members can promote one another. To join a Chamber Leads Group your business must: • Be a member of the Lee’s Summit Chamber of Commerce in good standing. • Pay an annual participation fee of $50 renewable at March 1 each year P 816-524-2424 F 816-524-5246 220 SE Main, Lee's Summit, MO 64063 lschamber.com lstourism.com Shop-LeesSummit.com
