Mike Allen & Julie Doane Named Dancing with the Chamber Stars Champions! On Friday, October 28, 2011, over 300 people attended the Chamber luncheon to cheer on eight couples at the first Dancing with the Chamber Stars event. Mike Allen, Cornerstone Financial Group and Julie Doane, Missouri Central Credit Union were named the 2011 champions. Together this dancing duo raised the most money for the Lee’s Summit Chamber Educational Fund. All together the dancers raised $12,645 for the fund. “Ecstatic doesn’t even begin to explain how thrilled I am with the success of our first Dancing with the Chamber Stars event,” said Phyllis Balagna with Steppin’ Out - The Studio and 2011 Education Committee chair. “We are so lucky to have such a caring community, from the dancers to all those that pledged money. These funds will allow our chamber to continue to provide high school scholarships.” Each spring the Lee’s Summit Chamber’s Education Committee awards $1000

scholarships to four high school seniors. One scholarship winner is selected from each of the three Lee’s Summit high schools, and one is selected from a school outside of the district. One of the parents of each recipient must be a full-time employee of a Chamber member business. When asked what being named Dancing with the Chamber Stars Champions meant to the winners, here’s what they had to say: “It was great to be a part of this event that brought together our great community to raise funds to help support our schools,” said the dancing duo of Mike and Julie. “Although we may not be able to raise all the moves, we can certainly raise some moolah!” Ryan Rostine, Longview Farm Elementary and Laura Maxwell, Lee’s Summit R-7 School District won a special prize for being the judges’ favorite.
