Jump Start your Day with Breakfast for Champions As part of the Entrepreneurs Week celebration, the Chamber is hosting the Breakfast for Champions from 7:30–9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 17, at The Aspen Room at The Stanley, 308 SE Douglas St. The breakfast, formerly known as Entrepreneurs in Motion, features Case Dorman. He will take us back to his roots starting out as a 16-year-old boy working as a cook at the local Smoke Stack restaurant, to president and CEO of the largest restaurant-owned catering company in Kansas City, Fiorella’s Jack Stack Barbecue. Jack Stack has grown into an amazing story, starting out with one restaurant and expanding to its current size of more than 700 employees, operating eight businesses. Following Dorman’s presentation, John Wisniewski, Tyler Morehead, Michele Spilker and Mike Atcheson will participate in a panel discussion about their road to success as a Lee’s Summit business owner. Time is set aside for the audience to ask questions of our guest speaker and panelists. There is no cost to attend this event, but reservations are required. Register online at LSchamber.com.

Lee’s Summit Airport Breaks Ground on New Runway Project

Meet the Board of Directors The Lee’s Summit Chamber is governed by a 22-member board and five ex-officio members. Each month the Chamber Link will highlight a couple of our directors.

With the KC Flight Formation Team soaring in the sky high above, the City of Lee’s Summit officially kicked off the airport improvements with an earthwork groundbreaking ceremony on Oct. 9, at the airport’s east ramp located at Hagan and Leinweber roads in Lee’s Summit.

Paul McClain is the Chief Investment Officer at Freedom Wealth Advisors, LLC. In addition to serving on the board of directors, Paul volunteers at the Chamber’s Golf Classic, Cocktails & Caddies tournament and Oktoberfest.

More than 40 individuals attended the event described by Lee’s Summit Mayor Randy Rhoads as “both an exciting and historic time for Lee’s Summit.” “Because of the start of the improvements at Lee’s Summit Municipal Airport, this community stands to gain economically as a result of more corporate travelers, more visitors, and more business investment into our community as well as surrounding areas,” Mayor Rhoads said.

Paul is a graduate of the Leadership Lee’s Summit class of 2010 and also is involved in the Rotary Club.

Paul McClain

Matt Niewald has been the owner and Doctor of Dental Surgery at Lakewood Dental in Lee’s Summit for nearly 10 years.

Airport Manager John Ohrazda echoed Mayor Rhoads’ response when he said, “This project will allow Lee’s Summit and the eastern metropolitan area to sustain viable economic growth to attract businesses that rely on aviation as their means of transportation.” The project’s prime contractor, Emery Sapp & Sons Inc., has already started clearing work for the north/south runway 18/36 extension. The project also includes water main, sanitary sewer and storm sewer relocations; stream improvements; and the completion of earthwork to support 1,286 feet of improvements to the south section of the runway.

In addition to the board of directors, Matt has served on the Chamber Young Professionals committee, as well as the Chamber’s mentoring program. Matt also participates in the Chamber’s Annual Golf Classic.

Matt Niewald

Earthwork is scheduled to conclude in approximately 12 months, weather permitting.
