Kevin Kelley, Five Petals and Sheila Clark, Baird Group Real Estate, were named the 2013 champions. Together this dancing duo raised the most money for the Lee’s Summit Chamber Scholarship Fund. All together the eight couples raised more than $22,000. Through the fund, the Chamber awards four $1,000 scholarships to graduating high school seniors each year, and one $1,000 Lifelong Learning scholarship. Events for the scholarship fund help to secure the longevity and availability of these scholarships for years to come. When asked what being named Dancing with the Chamber Stars Champions meant to the winners, here’s what they had to say: “We are so proud to have been a part of this special evening raising money for the Lee’s Summit Chamber Scholarship Fund,” said the dancing duo of Sheila and Kevin. “We are thanking God for special friendships, our community of Lee’s Summit and memories that will last a lifetime.”

Entrepreneurs in Motion Breakfast This year's Lee's Summit Chamber Entrepreneurs in Motion Breakfast is set for Tuesday, November 19 from 8-10 a.m at the University of Central Missouri, 850 NW Chipman Road, Door 54. The event showcases LeeAnn Carlson, CEO of Lauren's Hope, as the keynote speaker. Carlson will talk to the audience on her entrepreneurial journey, highlighting her rise to success. She will also provide the audience insight as to the traits necessary to create and achieve success within their businesses. Lauren's Hope was founded when Carlson created several interchangeable medical alert bracelets as a favor for a friend's teenage daughter, Lauren. Until that point, Lauren had been unwilling to wear medical alert jewelry for her Type 1 Diabetes because everything on
the market was unattractive and drew what she felt was unwanted attention to her diagnosis.Since then Lauren's Hope has grown from a smal home-based business to now employ nearly two dozen full-time and several parttime team members in its Riverside operations. Lauren's Hope has been featured by QVC, People Magazine, The Wall Street Journal, InStyle Magazine, Family Circle, Woman's Day, and numerous other national and local publications. After her presentation, Carlson will be the honorary judge of an abbreviated Pitch ON!, featuring five BOOST Lee's Summit clients. Each BOOST participant will give a short pitch about their efforts to create or expand their business. This will be an interactive experience between Carlson, the audience and the entrepreneurs. Don't miss the chance to meet LeeAnn Carlson and to hear from our local aspiring entrepreneurs! There is no cost to attend this event, but please RSVP online at lschamber.com. Thanks to our event sponsors! KCP&L, HSMC Orizon LLC and Lead Bank

The Philly Awards are in place to honor excellence in nonprofit communications and design throughout the Kansas City region. The Chamber received first place honors in the Annual Report and second place honors in the Newsletter and Marketing Campaign categories. “We are honored to be recognized for our work with these Philly Awards,” said Chamber President Nancy Bruns. “Many nonprofits rely on the work of outside ad agencies for the design of their publications. Here at the Chamber we are fortunate to have talented staff to handle these duties which results in great cost savings for our organization. This allows us to focus on our number one mission here at the Chamber which is to help our members be successful… of course it doesn’t hurt to have well designed materials to help communicate our message.” The 11th Annual Philly Awards were a part of the annual Philanthropy Midwest conference sponsored by NonprofitConnect.
