Chamber Prepares for November Elections Two upcoming events planned to educate members Election season has arrived! In order to help our members make informed decisions on the ballot, the Chamber will host two upcoming events. While the Chamber does not endorse political parties or candidates as stated in the bylaws, the Chamber does address legislative issues that represent the interests of its members. The Chamber will host an informational Forum on two measures that will appear on the November 6 ballot. The Forum is October 2, from 7:45–9:30 a.m. in the main conference room at the University of Central Missouri – Summit Campus (Door 54), 850 NW Chipman Road. A continental breakfast will be provided for attendees. There is no cost to attend. The Forum will focus on:

• Proposition B – Creation of the Health & Education Trust Fund

with a proposed increase in the tax on tobacco products.

• Proposition E – Means by which

the state can establish and operate a state-based health insurance exchange.

Speakers representing the opposing and supporting positions will be given fifteen minutes each to present their information with additional time allotted for questions from the audience. Thank you to Humana for sponsoring this forum. Additionally, the Chamber and the Lee’s Summit Journal will host a Candidates Forum on October 16 from 6–8 p.m. at Legacy Park Community Center, 901 NE Bluesteam Drive. The Forum features candidates vying for contested seats in the Missouri House of Representatives serving all or part of Lee’s Summit. continued on page 2 >>
