LEE’S SUMMIT HISTORY MUSEUM The Historical Society of Lee’s Summit maintains a museum in the 1939 Post Office building at 220 SW Main St., in downtown Lee’s Summit. The museum houses a number of historic artifacts, maps and photos of early Lee’s Summit. The museum is open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. LONE JACK BATTLEFIELD MUSEUM Over two sweltering August days in 1862, Union and Confederate forces clashed on this battleground. Today, the site
LONGVIEW MANSION Built in 1914 by Kansas City millionaire lumberman Robert A. Long, the farm was the largest construction project of its kind in the United States. Long and his famed daughter and horsewoman, Loula Long Combs, once greeted royalty, movie stars, and business magnates at the mansion. Today, Longview Mansion is a premier estate for weddings and special events. ATTRACTIONS MISSOURI TOWN 1855 Step back in time and take in the sights and sounds of Missouri in the 1800s. This onetime farming community extends over 30 sloping acres. It is a living history museum, offering more than 25 original structures with furnishings and equipment, in addition to hosts and tour guides in period attire, authentic field and garden crops, and rare breeds of livestock found in the mid-19th century. LEGACY PARK Legacy Park covers 692 acres and includes 12 soccer fields, 16 baseball fields, eight softball fields and three football fields. OUTDOORS LEA McKEIGHAN PARK The renovated park on the south side of Chipman Road features a .6-mile trail, Jupiter XXL Jungle Gym and Speedway Zip Line. The park to the north of Chipman holds its own with a skate park, four lighted sand volleyball courts and new additions underway now. GAMBER COMMUNITY CENTER On good weather days, step outside onto the back patio, find respite under the gazebo, or work out on the outdoor fitness equipment. In addition, patrons can take part in bocce ball, croquet, ping pong and billiard tables. No reservations or fees required. For a small fee, utilize the cardio and weight rooms and enjoy 25 aerobics classes each week.

DOG PARKS Dogwood Park features a spray ground, a comfort station for the humans and 5 acres for canines to run around a .3mile paved trail. ARCHERY The Landahl Archery Range serves as the host site for several tournaments including state and national tournaments. The range consists of scenic shooting trails nestled into the woods where wildlife is abundant. A wheelchair accessible practice range also is available for sharpening your skills. BEACHES AND LAKES There’s no need to travel to the ocean to experience the fun of playing in the sand, building a sand castle or splashing around in the water. Longview Lake and Blue Springs Lake offer beach facilities for patrons looking for a unique recreational experience. Coming this summer to Longview Lake Beach: Rowdy Ribbits Water Park. Open Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day, these unique Jackson County gems are staffed by highly trained lifeguards and offer a safe environment for visitors of all ages. OUTDOORS CAMPGROUNDS The Jackson County Parks System is the third largest county parks system in the nation with nearly 22,000 acres and 238 camp sites. Campers from all over the United States stay in Jackson County Park campgrounds located at Lake Jacomo and Blue Springs Lake in Fleming Park, and at Longview Lake. Sites are available on a first-come, first-served basis with attendants at each site. Advance reservations are recommended at all campgrounds. This site hosts weekend saddle and carriage competitions April through October. RADIO-CONTROLLED AIRFIELDS For the radio-controlled airplane enthusiast, Jackson County Parks + Rec offers two radio controlled airfields. Fleming Park boasts a paved airstrip, while Longview Lake Park offers a grass airstrip. The radio-controlled airfields are open year round, weather permitting. All airfields are open to the public and supported by local radio controlled flying clubs. Daily and annual permits are available.
