Stories on fifth friday make JET's class alright. From Algebra I to Algebra II to Pre-Calculus, to Calculus, to Geometry, we advance through the ranks of logical thinking until we leave, ready to assult the college world with integrals of ex, the chain rule, and the Mean Value Theorem. Basketball captain makes good, teaching in such a high-class institution. Mathematics is more discipline for the mind than pure academics. Some teachers have even been known to make perfectly straight lines and very round circles at the drop of a graph. Some mix football with math. Closed Christmas parties. Some like cigars. Every one of us is amazed at the depths these guys get to - "Sure, I guess I can do number 42!"

In order to better relate to the world around us, and to make the best use of our own educational opportunities, we can find expert assistance from the guidance department in a very relaxed and free atmosphere. Through the aid of the guidance counselors, we leave La Salle wellprepared to meet the world. Brother Joe and Devine guidance help us with daily problems, and when the test scores come in, either praise us or pat us on the back, saying, "That's okay, you'll do better next time. ASVAB?????
In addition to the extensive sports and intramurals program, our beloved school possesses a fine Physical Education program. Each student spends two periods a week in gym or pool class. These classes relax us as well as enhance our capacity for mental work. Take your shoes off in the gym, mister. Walk around that pool, men. All locks must be taken off lower large lockers by sundown, or they wili be cut off; we already have a whole box in my office. Mr. Farrell "hanging out" in the nurse's office.

The first time we met him, we knew that Bernie McCabe was different. Wiry and dignified, his devilish Irish grin told us that he was up to something. For many of us, it was the first real experience of high school. Although we had already had a taste of math and science, he was the first to enlighten us to the more subtle mysteries of the universe. Mixing spicy stories on etymology with the usual vocabulary dribbl.e, he made the tedious part of English bearable. But from the beginning, his forte was always the works he assigned. His unusual insights into life always surfaced as he led us into the literary world. Starting with Lord of the Flies, and continuing with works such as A Separate Peace, Lord of the Rings, and Inherit the Wind, we learned about life through
conch shells, hobbits, and monkey trials. He led us, following blindly, through discussions. In each case, we discovered a second, more poignant level of thought which opened our eyes and enriched our minds. The discussions themselves proved what kind of teacher he was. Low-keyed, open, and personal, they were such that made us want to contribute, instead of feeling forced to talk. And just when we though class was getting boring, he'd bring up something strange that would have us leaving the class buzzing about the newest "Bernieism".
Our relationship with Bernie quickly ripened; it was now more than studentsto-teacher. Sophomore year led to a joyful reunion in English class. Instead of getting a teacher, we got Bernie. Continuing with authors like Salinger, Hemingway, and Shakespear, and books such as Last Summer and The Ox-Bow Incident, we began to learn the difference between reality and dreams. Although novels changed, and perhaps became more sophisticated, Bernie remained the same. Sly and unflappable, he was always the master of debate and discussion.

After a one-year intermission, senior year brought us back to Bernie. Though few of us realized it at the moment, we all had grown since our first meeting with him, and he deserved much of the credit.
46
This year was the culmination of our years in English. It was Bernie at his best. With his stories, analyses, and discussions, he had finally groomed us into true English students. We could sense a feeling of accomplishment in having come so far in only four years.
In advancing from an unorganized, incoherent essay i1 freshman year on Piggy and the shell to a five-page pape on the intricacies of Aeschylus, we realized we had be come intellectually aware. As we look back through our four years, we can remembe the man in the beard, with the grin on his face and th1 story on the tip of his tongue. He is an educator in ever: sense of the word. He gave us his knowledge and we giv, him our appreciation and thanks.

It was one of the warmest days on record for this time of year. Half way through November and it was 75째 and humid. Not exactly prime weather to run a cross country race in. But there was no turning back now because the sweats were already off and the rest of the Catholic League stood waiting for the two commands; set and the gun. How fast the last three months had passed! Once we had sat, a primarily young and untried team, in that little cabin in the Poconos. We had improvised our own camp, doing our own cooking and living in close quarters with one shower. Nevertheless it had been a sucess and we were drawn together as a team. We had decided that we would show the league and our school that the La Salle tradition of excellence in cross country was still strong. Most people did not expect to see much of a race today. Logically they were right. The Mohrbacker brothers were the only ones
back from last year's team and La Salle had been running behind the strong Ryan squad all season. Twenty minutes after the gun had been fired, things didn't seem as clear cut as they had earlier that day. La Salle was runner up by three points and third was some forty odd points behind us. Nevertheless, the goal had been reached, our tradition continues.

The 1975-76 edition of the La Salle Bowling Team proved to be one of th better teams in the league this year. The team, led by All-Catholics Joh Henninger (180) and Rich. Golden (178), rolled their way into contending position, finishing second in the North. Tuesdays I Washington Lanes were never better.
For the past six months we spent threefourths of our days in an overgrown box known as the gymnasium. We started off right beating the city champs, and continued to win from then on. A bad game against Kenrick and two good ones against Judge and our goal of a Catholic League championship is in sight. We worked hard and played well, remembering that we'll never get another chance. It was worth it. For four years we worked and didn't regret a moment of it because we were La Salle.

On November 20, the 26th annual Father and Son Banquet was held at the Four Chefs Restaurant, (Of course, where else?). This year's banquet honored faculty members who were former La Salle students: Father Robert Breen, Brother ~dward Cannon, Brother William Quaintance, and Brother Thomas "Doc" McPhillips. Master of Ceremonies for the affair was Francis Gleason, and the guest speakers were Dr. J. Gallagher and Dick Bedesem (football coach at Villanova). Of course, Brother Edmund was on hand once again to help distribute door prizes. Chairman Mario Cervone, Co-Chairman Ted Pizyblowski, and President Art Menno all agreed that the night was a success and enjoyed by all.

Tonight's performance represents a breakthrough for th, La Salle Actors' Workshop, and we hope the La Sall community. OF MICE AND MEN deals with many impor tant themes - the American dream, the depths of lovE and the cruel whims of fate. During the rehearsal perioc our actors have dug into themselves and their ex periences to turn what is fiction on paper into somethin that lives on stage. Yet, in the end, it is the job of ever actor, novice or professional.

Through the efforts of Mr. Braun and Br. Hilary, the Intramural Program ended with another successful season. Offering everything from pinochle to floor hockey, the intramural program has steadily increased over the past few years. Fierce competition was inspired in the homerooms, but all agreed that participation was what counted.

Thursday means Flourtown Lanes for over eighty members of the La Salle community. The bowling club, moderated by Brother Anselm Degan, is a very popular outlet for the tensions that may have built up during the week. Although individuals sometimes shine through, the main goal is fun and all the teachers and students enjoy a good time.

om its new birth three years ago, the band under the direction of Mr. ccimaro has progressed to be one of the most highly recognized in the ea. Our year began with the preparation for the football games. Sitting in e stands sometimes in the bitter cold, giving our spirit to the team. When 1ristmas time came around we had to work even harder. To prepare for our 1ristmas Concert, giving concerts for the elderly, which gave us a great ner satisfaction. When the spring rolled around all of our attention was cused on the Spring Festival. This was our finale of the year. Being in the ind however, is not all work. There is a lot of time to do things with your ends; this is what makes the year complete. To work hard for a goal but to 1joyyourself doing it.

The 1975-76 La Salle Hockey team did not experience one of their better seasons this year but their spirit remained steadfast. Unselfish playing by players like Captain Mike Johnston and Vinnie Moos, combined with the relentless efforts of Tony Maginnis and Bernie Lafferty has made the team a closely knit organization. Noble goaltending by Joe Braunschek and his partner Blagrove enhanced the team's play considerably. The 1976-77 season should prove to be an even more successful campaign
Vice-President Bill Mezzanotte, President Dennis Lynch, and Vice-President George Foley.
This year's Student Council has proved to. be extremely successful ... Led by Pres. Dennis Lynch and VicePresidents Bill Mezzanotte and George Foley, the student government has provided La Salle students with numerous and exciting mixers, exchanges with neighboring schools and a new, organized constitution. The Council, under the moderation of Mr. Manion, had proved to be among the finest La Salle has ever had.

In about a decade, La Salle's spring musicals have earned a reputation as being among the finest in the city. From the acting to the scenery and speeial effects, almost everything about the play is of high quality, as viewers from previous shows can verify. Not surprisingly, then, the show has become a tradition here at La Salle. However, it is not only the efforts of the cast but and crew,. who have been working diligently since mid-hugust, the support of the entire student body that makes the show a success. 11 play is 110 In the Shade". It is the story of This year's an unmarried ranch-girl (played by ?路lary Hopper), whose town is suffering from a drought. The plot is deepened by the arrival of a (Red Barth), who is interested in more than robbing fake rainmaker the townsfolk out of money! 150

Think back a moment, to the time when you were a freshmen, trying find your way around LaSalle. You looked up at the clock and realiz that class had already started. A late slip. The main office. Mr. Die So you walked anxiously towards the office, and stepped inside. A there you found a friend. A warm smile greeted your slow approach smile that said no matter what the problem things would be all ri1; Four years later, as you amble into that office, the same smile appe, - still everything is all right. For four years we have beeh at LaSalle, and for four years she t been the same. Warm, helpful, understanding, always opening hers to the students' problems. Not many people can give a studen1 feeling of accomplishment just for putting an announcement in daily bulletin. Seldom do you find someone who cares about the c which kept you out of school. And never has anyone been able to I anxiety, tension, or bitterness completely to rest with one smile. For years, Mrs. Lull has provided invaluable service to the faculty c the students. The extra that she puts into her job, her personal tOl and her willingess to help, make LaSalle a better place for a Stud to grow. In many ways she typifies what makes LaSalle so differ, from other schools. But now, as the '75-'76 schools ends, LaSalle faces a major loss. the regret of the entire school community, Mrs. Lull has decided retire. The office will never be 'the same. All of LaSalle would like express its deepest gratitude for her services and best wishes happiness in years to come. But perhaps if we ask her, Mrs. Lull , leave us a lasting gift - one more smile to tell us everything is go to be al I rig ht.
