Welcome Message Message from the President Dear Colleague, This year the OAG celebrates its 20th anniversary. We look forward to our annual conference in yet another outstanding hotel in Toronto, the Ritz-Carlton. During the scientific session last year we went beyond the guidelines. This year we go where guidelines fear to tread. The topics to be presented are those we see on a daily basis, yet there are no hard and fast solutions as to how we can best help our patients. We will bring in some of the experts in these areas to generate thought-provoking discussions that might help effect change in your management of patients. On Sunday we have the always well-received St. Michael’s Endoscopy Course review, and we will be discussing the new FIT implementation in Ontario. We close with the OMA Section on Gastroenterology AGM, as well as the OAG AGM. This year the Companion Program will be accessible to all! We will be having Afternoon Tea together. This will flow nicely into the Gala event, this year with a Victorian inspired theme. We will be honoring our very own Dr. Ted Ptak as this year’s recipient of the OAG Distinguished Service Award. Remember, next year we take the show on the road to Ottawa for Canada’s 150th Birthday celebrations. We look forward to seeing you at the Ritz. Best regards, ONTARIO ASSOCIATION OF GASTROENTEROLOGY

Welcome Message Message from the Conference Chair Dear Colleague, On behalf of the Organizing Committee, welcome to Toronto and to our 20th Annual Conference at the Ritz-Carlton Toronto hotel. We have put together an excellent scientific program for Saturday and Sunday. The theme of this year’s Conference is “Clinical Challenges in Gastroenterology”. The Organizing Committee has chosen a list of challenging clinical scenarios that we face in day-to-day practice. We have identified some key experts to enlighten us with their knowledge and experience in these difficult disease states. We have striven to cover a variety of conditions involving both luminal and hepatobiliary disorders. I am sure you will find the speakers and topics most informative and educational. We have provided ample time for questions and discussions to engage our member audience. Our Sunday session will lead off with the ever-so-popular “Excerpts from the St. Mike’s Therapeutic Endoscopy Course.” We will then receive an update on the emerging role of FIT testing for colon cancer screening. This will be followed by the OMA Section on Gastroenterology Annual General Meeting led by our President, Dr. Iain Murray. We will conclude with our Annual General Meeting and we look forward to your valuable input to direct the OAG Board of Directors for the upcoming year. Meeting and interacting with friends and colleagues is an important component of the Conference. We have once again planned a superb meal for the President’s Welcome Dinner. Our Gala on Saturday has a Victorian theme and it promises to be most enjoyable. I am sure the Chefs at the Ritz-Carlton will please all palates. We shall honour Dr. Ted Ptak with the annual OAG Distinguished Service Award and dance the night away to a variety of music, making the Gala enjoyable for all. Our Association and our Conferences could not exist without the generous and unrestricted support from all our partners and sponsors. We thank them immensely and encourage you all to interact with them throughout the Conference. The Organizing Committee looks forward to seeing you around. Best regards, ONTARIO ASSOCIATION OF GASTROENTEROLOGY

Gala and Awards Presentation
A Touch of Victorian Elegance The OAG resides in a country where the monarchy is entrenched, so it befits our members to gather and dine like royalty. Join us at this year’s Gala and Awards Presentation for A Touch of Victorian Elegance. Come and celebrate with us as we honour one of our very own, fellow gastroenterologist Dr. Theadore Ptak, with the OAG Distinguished Service Award. Dr. Ptak’s talents are not restricted to gastroenterology though – he is a humanitarian, a philanthropist, a risk taker and a fabulous dancer. Words cannot express the many attributes of this exceptional man. A cocktail reception overlooking the city, followed by a sumptuous meal in an elegant setting, will ensure that you are relaxed and ready to enjoy the rest of the night to the sounds of the String Quartet and our DJ, who plans to take the party to the next level after dinner. A beautiful night in a beautiful city, with the most beautiful friends and colleagues - what more could we ask for?
