Description Although the qualification is primarily intended to support your progression to higher education, the introductory skills, knowledge and understanding that you will gain would be of use in various job roles in a legal setting, such as legal secretary or administrator, including those offered through school/college-leaver traineeships or fast-track programmes. This unit develops academic research skills and the language skills needed to be able to formally present academic research in a legal context. Legal terminology and communication This unit develops learners’ skills and how to present information in a legal context.
Assessment and verification All units within this qualification are internally assessed and externally verified by the awarding body. The qualifications are criterion referenced, based on the achievement of all the specified learning outcomes. To achieve a ‘pass’ for a unit, learners must provide evidence to demonstrate that they have fulfilled all the learning outcomes and meet the standards specified by all assessment criteria.
Who is this course for? This qualification will suit you if you are planning to take a law degree but do not yet have sufficient, relevant attainment at Level 3 to meet the entry requirements for a higher education course. The Diploma will provide you with a firm grounding in terms of legal knowledge and understanding, alongside the opportunity to develop the academic and research skills you will need on an LLB or BA degree course in law.
Requirements There are no formal requirements for specific prior qualifications or levels of attainment. However, if you have not already achieved a level 2 qualification in English and/or maths, you will normally be expected to take a GCSE or Level 2 Functional Skills qualification alongside this Diploma in order to support your progression to higher education.
