Wellknown artist dies

Lone Star outdoor newS One of Texas’ most well-known wildlife artists died Dec. 5 from surgery complications following a lateNovember accident. Herb Booth, 72, of Rockport, known to hunters and fishermen who regularly attend Ducks Unlimited and Coastal Conservation Association fundraisers, was on his way to Iowa to go pheasant hunting and was travelling with 10 dogs for the hunt, according to his son, Peter MacMillan Booth’s Facebook page. Booth turned off of Interstate 35 near Bruceville-Eddy to let the dogs out for a run. He crossed the uncontrolled railroad grade and was struck on the passenger side of his Dodge pickup. “He was pulling a trailer with an ATV and he had eight dogs on the trailer and two in the truck,” said DPS Trooper D.L. Wilson. “One of the dogs was killed and a wounded dog ran away from the scene, but I think they found him and he was OK. The rest of the dogs were fine. A multi-year study to assess the difference in lethality between steel and lead shot in dove was released last week by Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. The findings should surprise some Texas hunters — their success afield should not change with the type of shot used, according to the results. The field collection phase of the study

Many leaves have fallen from the trees, making it difficult to stay hidden like it was during bow season.
