Another defining feature: the all-new M5C3 ZeroLock adjustments.

The windage adjustment is capped and the zero indicator mark has been relocated on the riflescope’s maintube so you can see it without having to move your head off the stock of the rifle. From front to back, it’s a riflescope designed to be manipulated without having to break your position.

BUILDING PERMANENT RANGES WITH TEXANS ARCHERY club Imagine a network of permanent archery ranges around Texas. Help us build it!

That's the vision of the largest archery club in the state, the nonprofit Texans Archery Club and its community outreach Texas Archery Academy, together leading the effort to raise public awareness of the need for permanent infrastructure to support sustained participation in archery.

Why? There is barely any ACCESS. Archery is the largest emerging sport since soccer and the best recruiting tool for youth organizations.

There are school archery teams all over the U.S., including the successful National Archery in Schools Program (NASP) in Texas. In archery competition, participation numbers rival Little League.

Youth get a taste at summer camp or a school program, but then what? Archery is missing from city and state parks. Retail bow shops cater mostly to bowhunters to test the latest gear. The few private archery clubs are limited in public outreach. It’s illegal to shoot in your backyard in most municipalities!

So where are our children going to shoot? Imagine playing tennis without any tennis courts. Texans Archery Club has the ambition to build permanent access, 24-hour Shooters Clubs, urban indoor archery facilities in partnership with parks or by land acquisition; and a network of Archery Barns, outdoor ranges on land in regional growth patterns.

These facilities will support a network of instructors, teams, and safe, familyfriendly community access.

We are looking for corporate and community sponsors who recognize how inexpensive ($50,000 for Archery Barns, $250,000 for Shooters Clubs) and beneficial to our state this effort is.

Adopt an Acre with Trinity Oaks Trinity Oaks, a San Antonio based nonprofit, is well-known in the Texas deer hunting community for its processing and distribution of wild game meat to homeless shelters and food pantries throughout Texas — more than 9,000 pounds each month, equating to feeding 11,250 families of four every month, all free of charge to the hunter donating the meat and end recipient.

The nonprofit also provides fishing trips, hunts and outdoor experiences to the less fortunate. Since 2007, they have made a tangible difference in the lives of thousands of people, who otherwise would not afford or have had access to land to enjoy the outdoorbased experiences.

Each year, Trinity Oaks properties host more than 50 events supporting individuals and like-minded nonprofits, who benefit from active participation in nature.

The outdoor programs support Purple Heart and combat veterans and their families, people suffering through a terminal illness, and underprivileged youth who lack proper mentorship or financial means.

Now, the organization, to secure its long-term future and sustainability for program growth, is buying the Thumbtack Ranch, a 2,000-acre ranch near Batesville.

“We can host a full additional 50 events more each year at the ranch alone, completely free of charge to participants,” said Trinity Oaks’ cofounder and president, Tom Snyder. “The ranch allows us to incorporate hunting, angling, shooting and outdoor recreation at one location, eliminating the cost and process of moving specialized handicapped equipment from ranch to ranch.”

Snyder also plans to open the Thumbtack Ranch to other like-minded nonprofits.

“We’ll provide access so they can provide additional opportunities to people we cannot traditionally reach and thus, multiply the impact of the ranch,” he said.

Trinity Oaks is introducing the “Adopt an Acre” Capital Campaign to secure the funds needed to make the Thumbtack Ranch vision a reality.

“We need to raise $6 million in three years. So far we have raised $2.4 million in 2017,” Snyder said. “A person can help us by adopting an acre for $3,000 in a one-time gift or a three-year pledge that equates to $85 per month, for 36 months.”

Donors, who adopt an acre, will be entered into a unique raffle annually!

“Each year, the donor will get one chance per acre ‘adopted,’ to win a trophy hunt of their choice on the ranch,” Snyder said. “With their help, we can achieve the Trinity Oaks’ mission of using hunting, fishing and outdoor activities to give back and make a difference in the lives of others.”

Making a donation to Trinity Oaks “Adopt An Acre” Capital Campaign also creates a special lasting legacy by permanently honoring the donor, a loved one, company, or memory of a person who loved the outdoors. The donor will select how the acre is named and recorded on a huge map that is located in the main lodge.

On August 25, Trinity Oaks will hold its 6th annual Under the Oaks Gala in San Antonio, where it will award its annual Partner of the Year award honoring hunterconservationists who have consistently given their time, talent, and treasure to Trinity Oaks. Past recipients have included Scott Gurney, Duck Dynasty executive producer, and Joe and Ann Kercheville, owners of Joshua Creek Ranch in Boerne.

The annual Lt. Paul Silber Award recipient also will be recognized, given to a combat veteran dedicated to conservation and community volunteerism. Past winners have included incredible Purple Heart recipients such as Greg Stubbe, Gary Renick, Edgar Stiteler, and Blaine Scott.

Hunters need help — from all of us

Lone Star Outdoor News There is a growing demographic in the hunting world, and it’s women.

During a time where hunter numbers are either stagnant or declining in parts of the U.S., the number of women taking to the field has increased to the point it represents 20-plus percent of all U.S. hunters.

And their numbers are still growing.

Why? Some say it’s the ability to put organic, local meat on the table for their families. Others say they were left out of the boy’s club as youngsters, but yearned for the chance to experience what they were doing. Still others tag along for the first time for one reason or another, and get hooked.

Many don’t fit the stereotypes associated with women in the sport.

Few of them wear pink. Most don’t want to be called a female hunter or huntress, but prefer to just be called a “hunter.”

Hunting, and especially big game hunting, is under attack from a number of sources, especially well-organized animal rights groups.

Women, particularly, are targeted, should they show a photo of their quarry.

Although the dollars from hunters, through license fees and excise taxes on guns, ammunition and gear, fund the vast majority of the budgets of each state’s wildlife agency, the attacks continue.

The NRA has stepped up to defend hunting as it does the Second Amendment.

The NRA Hunters’ Leadership Forum was launched in 2014 to address the cultural, political, demographic and technological challenges to hunting’s future in the 21st century.

The HLF marches in step with the NRA’s key objectives: “to promote hunter safety, and to promote and defend hunting as a shooting sport and as a viable and necessary method of fostering the propagation, growth, conservation and wise use of our renewable wildlife resources.”

Melanie Pepper, of Houston, went on her first hunt in Africa with her hunter-husband, John, at the age of 40. Now, she has hunted around the world, is an NRA board member and a founding member and national cochair of the HLF. “The NRA has successfully defended the Second Amendment for over 100 years and it is fully capable, willing and ready to do the same for the hunting community,” she said.

And, the NRA’s hunting program for youth, the Youth Hunter Education Challenge, has been recognized as the most comprehensive youth hunting program in North America.

Open to those who have completed hunter safety training, the program is conducted under simulated hunting conditions to provide the best practical environment for reinforcing and testing a young hunter’s skills.

Together, we can help not only to defend hunters, but to grow our numbers.

DICKINSON ARMS INTRODUCES NEW IMPALA PLUS LINE Dickinson Arms has unveiled its new-for-2018 Impala Plus line of high-performance semi-automatic shotguns engineered for serious hunters and sport shooters. This new family, along with Dickinson’s entire line of shotguns combining quality, craftsmanship and surprising value, will be featured in the Dickinson Arms exhibit (#10362) during the NRA Show in Dallas.

Manufactured in Turkey using a combination of oldworld craftsmanship and state-of-the-art machining technology, the Impala Plus line provides sportsmen with a level of handling, shooting performance and mechanical dependability normally associated with guns costing much more.

With dozens of 12-gauge Impala models, barrel lengths (18” to 30”) stock configurations and colors to choose from, the Impala Plus line offers something for every shooter. All Impala Plus models come with multiple choke tubes standard, to suit a wide variety of shooting and hunting situations.

Several models feature stocks and fore-ends crafted from rich, hand-checkered Turkish walnut, making each gun an individual piece of art. Other models feature rugged, yet lightweight synthetic stocks and fore-ends with an exclusive injection molded “Gecko Touch” anti-slip material for superior handling, even when shooting in damp or sweaty conditions. These models also offer an optional, removable “cheek piece” that installs on the butt to help shooters fine-tune the ideal sight line for accuracy and comfort.

Avid hunters and waterfowlers will appreciate the Impala Plus models offered in a full range of camouflage patterns, providing profile breakup and stealth under a variety of conditions and environments.

This series also includes a model with a unique, hightech carbon-fiber finish.

For those who want a truly distinctive, highperformance sporting gun, Dickinson’s Impala Plus Elite series comes in a range of bold stock, fore-end and action colors. Rounding out the Impala Plus family are two special Desert models in 18- or 22-inch barrels, and a stainless steel Marine shotgun offered with 18- to 24-inch barrels.

Whichever Impala Plus model they choose, shooters will benefit from Dickinson’s quality manufacturing processes, painstaking craftsmanship and a range of premium performance features. These include barrels that are chrome coated inside and out and ported to minimize recoil and muzzle rise. Designed with only 10 total parts in each inertia-based mechanism, the Impala Plus line will provide shooters with easy maintenance and years of trouble-free operation in real-world conditions.
