LSS Home Health Care: Providing Care with Dignity and Respect Caring for those in need has always been at the core of what we do at Lutheran Social Services of Central Ohio (LSS). Since 1912 LSS has been providing services to people in need, including food pantries, homeless shelters, senior living, affordable housing communities, disaster response and other programs that uplift families and strengthen communities. Through these services, LSS serves thousands of people every day in central, north central and southeast Ohio. In an effort to expand our services to those who need caring support, LSS has established a home health care service. Among the services available through LSS Home Health Care are physical, occupational and speech therapy, orthopedic and cardiac rehabilitation, pain management, registered and licensed practical nurses, and wound specialists. Additionally, assistance with cooking, cleaning, personal care and other household services are available. Many services are funded through Medicare, Medicaid and Passport, meaning they may be provided at little or no cost to the patient. Services are available in Franklin, Delaware, Licking, Marion, Morrow, Richland, Knox, Fairfield and Ashland counties. “The addition of home health care is consistent with a part of LSS’ strategic plan calling for the expansion of our medicalrelated care to those within our programs and the wider community,” the Rev. Larry
Crowell, LSS President and CEO, said. Being able to remain at home is important to many of today’s seniors. With the help of LSS Home Health Care, seniors and others who need assistance don’t have to choose between leaving their home and their care needs. “When my wife fell with a pan of hot water and suffered second degree burns on her body, they came to our aid,” Garry Davis said. “They were wonderful and are great people with great knowledge and understanding. I would recommend them highly.” For more information on LSS Home Health Care or to sign up for a free assessment, please go to www.lsshomehealthcare.com.

Dear Friends, As you read in the cover story, LSS has expanded our services to offer home health care. This addition falls directly in line with our other programs and services, which are all designed to help those who are hungry, need housing, require healing and/or seek hope. With this at the core of who we are as an agency, we seek to provide care to seniors and others who need medical or personal care with a spirit of love and compassion. Over the past 100 years, while the services provided by LSS may have changed, this underlying principle has remained. To me, this directly relates to Jesus’ words about
helping the least of these. “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.” Matthew 25: 3536. Needing such services can make a person feel vulnerable, and having staff that truly care about the quality of the care and the person as a whole makes a difference. Not only do we want to help a person heal physically, we want to lessen the emotional stress needing care or help with bathing and household chores can cause. With these values in mind, I am honored to introduce LSS Home Health Care, which will further continue LSS’ legacy of helping the least of these in our communities. Sincerely,
The Rev. Larry A. Crowell President and CEO
Planned Giving Many of the generous people who make annual contributions to support the clients of LSS also want to help ensure that these programs continue to meet basic needs in our community long into the future.
