New Wilson Medical Building to be Named After Former President and CEO Wilson Memorial’s proposed 48,000 sq. ft. medical office building will pay homage to an inspiring figure who led WMH for over 40 years, Mr. Thomas J. Boecker. Wilson Memorial held a groundbreaking ceremony on the hospital campus and the formal announcement was made by the hospital’s chairman of the board, Ken Monnier. “Today we celebrate growth at Wilson Memorial. Mr. Boecker inspired tremendous growth throughout his tenure at Wilson Memorial so it is only fitting to honor his legacy by naming the new medical building after him.” The new building will be named the Thomas Boecker Professional Building and will be the future home of Wilson Care physician practices currently located in Sidney. Wilson Care is a multi-specialty physician group consisting of over 30 providers with offices located throughout Shelby County. The Wilson Care practices in Sidney specialize in family medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics, OB/GYN, ENT and endocrinology and are located both on and off campus in independent offices. The goal of the new medical building is to bring these practices all under one roof. “We are pleased to be part of the

economic growth in Sidney and Shelby County,” said Mark Dooley, president and CEO, Wilson Memorial. “The Thomas Boecker Professional Building expansion project is just one more way that we are continuing to meet our community’s health needs, close to home.” The ground-breaking marked the beginning of the two year construction project set to be completed in 2016. Wilson Memorial has contracted with the Dayton-based App Architecture firm on the design of the building and Ferguson Construction Company will be the assigned contractor.
Botkins Schools Open New Building BOTKINS LOCAL SCHOOL “This new school promises a brighter tomorrow for the community and a stronger future for area children.” On November 8, 2011, the Botkins voters approved a 7.99 mill levy to build a 105,000 square foot facility at a total cost of $24.4 million. This project was a partnership between the Botkins Board of Education and the Ohio School Facilities Commission (OSFC), with the OSFC paying 75% of the total cost. West Ohio Development Council Adopts New Name and Brand The West Ohio Development Council is now the Sidney-Shelby Economic Partnership. Beginning November 2014, the Council assumed the new name and brand. The name change and rebrand are a result of the strategic planning process the Council recently undertook. The West Ohio Development Council was established in 1983 during a time of double digit unemployment, inflation and interest rates. Community leaders at that time decided that a more proactive approach to economic development needed to be done. They formed the West Ohio Development Council. This model is used by many economic development organizations today. The Council’s main goal then, as it is now, is to help create and maintain job opportunities here. Since 1983, over 17,000 new jobs have been created in Shelby County. Also in 1983, only a few counties had a separate and distinct economic development group such as the West Ohio Development Council. Today, following the lead of the Council, nearly all
counties in Ohio and adjacent states have their own economic development group. In 1983, the Council provided services to neighboring counties, but now serves only Shelby County. Consequently, it became apparent that the name should be changed to better reflect the service area. Council Board members worked closely with a local company to create the new logo. The logo discloses Shelby County’s strong industrial and agricultural heritage. The brand also reflects the partnerships that exist between business, government, and neighboring counties to promote economic development in West Central Ohio. While the name and brand will change, the mission will stay the same – Help Create and Maintain Job Opportunities in Shelby County.
