2009-2010 Season outlook
here has been no denying the successes of the Lady Bengals the last 5 seasons. Since taking over in 2004, Michael Bari has led the Lady Bengals to over 100 victories, and also at least 19 wins per season in all but one season. Winning basketball is now the norm in Eunice. The Lady Bengals finished ranked 20th in the final NJCAA poll last season, and have been ranked at least once a season in the last six years. The team even raised their scoring average by an unprecedented 10.3 points per game to 86. That fastpaced offense not only is fun for fans, but fun for the team as well. That up-tempo strategy helped turn the season around for the Lady Bengals. After a less than desirable 2-6 start to the season, the Lady Bengals turned on the afterburners, and left them running for the rest of the campaign. The Lady Bengals scored 100+ points in 8 of their last 17 games, and were undefeated in such games. Add in a pressure-filled defense that had opponents coughing up the ball 22 times a game, and LSUE’s recipe to another victorious season will be in place. “Our offensive system has always been predicated by getting the ball up the floor and shooting the three, which has made us one of the highest scoring teams in the country over the last five years. Defensively, we’ve been able to eliminate teams from driving to the basket, and forcing

Michael Bari them to take shots outside of their system, as well as emphasizing rebounding.” Bari said of his productive system. No longer with the team are starters Danielle Morgan, Candace Lacombe, or Quanessa Batiste. Danielle Morgan chose to end her playing career after LSU Eunice. Danielle average 6.0 points and 5.9 rebounds in all 31 games for the Bengals last season. She had 4 points and 9 rebounds in her final game with the Lady Bengals. Morgan transferred to the University of Colorado in Boulder to continue her pursuit of a degree in Accounting. Candace Lacombe transferred to McNeese State University in Lake Charles for
her sophomore season. During her time with the Lady Bengals, Candace did major damage to the record books. She easily climbed her way up LSUE’s scoring ranks, finishing tied for 4th all time with Amanda Romero with 611 points. In addition to her points, her free throw shooting for the team was impeccable. Lacombe set multiple NJCAA records after a big night at Glendale CC in December when she successfully made 21 free throws. She was 7th in the nation in scoring average at 20.4 points per game, and 1st in free throw percentage at 87 percent. Quanessa Batiste’s Lady Bengal career was short but sweet. She averaged 15.9 points per game, and also grabbed 6.7 rebounds to boot. Her value to the team came at multiple positions, as she started at point guard while Amanda Fontenot was out with an injury. She was also able to play wing positions as well as in the post. Quanessa signed a Letter of Intent in the summer to play at Dillard University in New Orleans. The Lady Bengals also lost sophomores Courtney LeBlanc and Mallory Thornton. But despite the losses, the program is not suddenly overcome with a melancholy malaise. “Even though we lost our top two scorers, I feel we’ve replaced them with some quality freshmen, and we still have three outstanding sophomores returning to fill the gap.” Bari spoke of his departing players. The program has re-
turned six sophomores from last season, which will look to improve upon an area that the team was lacking last season; clear, consistent leadership. Jennifer Hicks (Bossier City, La.), Amanda Fontenot (Washington, La.), and Sierra Goldwire (Clyo, Ga.) are returning for their second seasons with the Lady Bengals in 2009-10. All three were major contributors to the success of the team last season. Amelia Broussard (Kaplan, La.), Nicollette Calvin (DeRidder, La.), and Kassie Latiolais (Church Point, La.) also return to the program ready to bring their experience to the roster. Phyliece Beaver (Houston, Texas) transfers into LSU Eunice this season from Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College and adds length to the lineup. The freshman class this season is something to get excited about. “This is probably our most athletic and skilled class we’ve ever brought in. We feel they’re going to bring a lot of success on and off the floor for the Lady Bengal program” Bari remarked. Among the new signees, the first to sign on was Twanisha Tillman (New Orleans, La.). Tillman was
Jennifer Hicks
highly recruited around the area, but ultimately chose LSU Eunice. Local rivals Shaina Howard (Lafayette, La.) and Erica Noel (Carencro, La.) join forces to help distribute and score. Allison Ledoux (Basile, La.) and Sydney Lemoine (Cottonport, La.) add an outside threat for the up-tempo offense. Ashley Qualls (Rayville, La.) joins the roster to add an all-around menace to other teams in all facets of the game.
J
FRONTCOURT ennifer Hicks returns for the Lady Bengals, and is poised to be the team’s most productive player on the stat sheet. Hicks easily led not only her team, but the entire nation in free throw efficiency. Nationally speaking, Hicks was more visable than most JUCO players are during the course of the year. Hicks spent most of the year ranked in the upper echelon of her most productive categories. Hicks not only broke the school record for free-throws made and attempted, but she ranked first in attempts and second in makes in the NJCAA. Hicks is also on the fast track to break Casey Broussard record of 76 blocks in
a career at LSU Eunice. She recorded 72 blocks in just her first season, so you can expect that record to fall very early in the year. She also facilitates what makes Bari’s offense unique, the outside threat. Hicks finished third on the team last season with 41 three-point field goals, much more than the usual power forward. “Jen will end up being one of the best players to ever come through our program. Jen has put a lot of hard work and dedication into her game, and possesses great athletic ability. Her strength and speed enables her to get to the basket like no other Lady Bengal we’ve had in the past. Jen is a great example on and off the floor of what we want our players to be like.” Bari observed about his MVP from last season. Sierra Goldwire returns and looks to improve upon an up and down season. Goldwire’s games were either a huge mark on the box score or barely a mention at all. Her career high’s are 26 points and 15 rebounds, and the potential is definetly there for her to have a doubledouble in per game averages. Goldwire has worked all summer on improving her outside shot and turnaround jumper, and she looks forward to trying out her much improved facets of her game this winter. “Sierra is extremely athletic, and brings a true post presence to our program. She is an outstanding rebounder and runs the floor extremely well. One of her biggest attributes is that she can step outside and shoot the ball as well. Sierra is a quality student on and off the floor, and serves our program well.” Bari spoke of Sierra. Nicollette Calvin returns to reprise her role as a defensive forward. Calvin found herself in the lineup more and more as the season progressed because of the hard work she displayed on the floor Incoming freshman Twanisha Tillman is a hybrid player who stands above six feet tall, but can play both inside and out. Tillman, a graduate of Edna Karr High School in New Orleans, could be a potential starter at just about any position. “Twanisha is one of our better recruits that we’ve had here at LSU Eunice. She is somebody that is going to fill the scoring void for us, and bring versatility to our program. She can shoot from the outside, but she is also dominating around the basket.” Bari said of Tillman. Erica Noel looks to be the same type of threat for the Lady Bengals, with the ability to be a swing forward, or a low post

mismatch. Noel was the leading scorer for her Carencro Bears High School team, and has the confidence to do the same for LSU Eunice. “Erica is one of the hardest workers we’ve had come through our program. Erica has a keen sense of focus and determination and is another player we count on to be a force both inside and outside the arc. Erica’s specialty is her on-ball defense which will be an asset to us over the course of the season.” Bari said of Noel. Phyleice Beaver transfers in from Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College to not only expand upon her enormous potential, but also to live closer to home. Phyleice’s has family in Eunice, and was a major factor in her choice to transfer to LSU Eunice. Phyleice in limited minutes at NEO showed potential to be a major supplier to this team.
T
BACKCOURT he leader of the backcourt is sophomore point guard Amanda Fontenot, who averaged 6.2 points per game last year. She was fifth in the NJCAA in assists per game and led the Lady Bengals in assist-to-turnover ratio. Fontenot’s 154 total assists put her in 4th place all-time for an LSU Eunice player. Amanda could potentially give former Lady Bengal Michele Yawn a run for her money, as Fontenot will slowly climb the rankings for all-time assist leader. Amanda missed 7 games last season after an unfortunate knee injury in the SWABC Super Scrimmage in Carrollton, Texas. Fontenot is looking to improve upon not only her game, but her physical well-being as well. Her summer regiment consisted of a healthy dose of shooting and conditioning, which she believes will take her to the next level. “Amanda is a solid and steady point guard that makes our team go. It’s no mistake that when she returned from injury last year, we started our midseason run towards the playoffs. We are counting on Amanda to lead our team the whole season, throughout the playoffs and beyond. Amanda exemplifies what our program is all about, and she excels in the classroom, community, and on the floor.” Bari commented about his point guard. Joining Amanda in the backcourt are returning sophomores Amelia Broussard and Kassie Latiolais. Broussard took the spot of Fontenot in the lineup in the early

Michael Bari games last season, and she proved her leadership valuable. Amelia was named a captain in the offseason, and has been showing the freshman the ropes of how to be a successful college basketball player on and off the court. Kassie Latiolais returns to help keep the defense spread out. Latiolais was mainly used in a shooter role last season, hitting 13 three-pointers in 8.2 minutes per game. She made progress over the course of the season and played in NJCAA District Tournament. Allison Ledoux joins the Lady Bengals from just down the road in Basile, Louisiana. A onetime rival of the Eunice sports culture, she joins LSUE as a deep threat, and as someone who can play multiple positions. Ledoux was named to the All-District first team as well as the AllDefensive first team in her senior year. “Allison is a sharp-shooter and hardnosed defender that will pay valuable dividends for us this season. She brings another on-ball defender and player that will play into our defensive scheme.” Bari said of Ledoux. Shaina Howard enters the Lady Bengal program from Acadiana High School in Lafayette, Louisiana. Howard brings the program a change-of-pace point guard to help keep the defenses on their toes. Howard’s track star speed and ball handling skills are what attracted the coaching staff, and she hopes to prove she’s more than just lightning quick. The Lady Bengal backcourt is supplemented by freshmen Ashley Qualls and Sydney Lemoine. Qualls, who hails from Rayville, Louisiana, brings a post player in a guard’s body. Qualls has the ability
to jump out of the gym, and grab any rebound within her reach. Sydney Lemoine joins the team from Cottonport, Louisiana. Lemoine, a scrappy guard, brings another deadly outside threat to Bari’s repertoire. Lemoine also ran track for her high school team, which should help her have a step up on her opponents. THE SCHEDULE The Lady Bengal schedule has been set, and includes games all across the nation. The full 30 game slate has 12 games scheduled in Eunice, and 18 on the road. The season begins on the road for the Lady Bengals in Cuthbert, Georgia, as the squad looks to complete the back-end of a home-and-home series with Andrew College. In the first game of the series during last season, the Lady Bengals defeated Andrew 91-44. After returning home, LSU Eunice will play its only two home games in 2009 back-to-back. The first of two games will be played Nov. 6 vs. Allen County Community College. Allen lost an overtime thriller to LSU Eunice last season, which
Sierra Goldwire
sparked a hot streak in which the Lady Bengals won six of the following eight games they played. The second game will be played against Butler Community College. This will be the first meeting between the two schools. Both schools are traveling to Louisiana from Kansas. A long road trip ensues after the quick home showcase, where LSU Eunice will play seven games in eleven days. Participating in two tournaments in Oklahoma and Kansas, as well as stops in Missouri and Texas along the way help populate the densely packed journey. The voyage begins in Tishomingo, Oklahoma, as the Lady Bengals are set to participate in the Murray State Classic Tournament. As the name implies, the tournament will be held at Murray State College, where the Bengals lost a heartbreaker 66-68 last season. LSU Eunice will be playing three games in the tournament; the first opponent is Hill College. Under Bari’s direction, LSU Eunice has gone undefeated in two games versus the Hill Rebels. The two other game’s opponents have yet to be determined as they are based on the outcomes of the
first and second rounds of games. After a quick stop in Keene, Texas to face Southwestern Adventist University, the Lady Bengals take on their second tournament challenge. The Blue & Gold Tournament held annually at Highland Community College in Highland, Kansas will host a two game guaranteed bracket. The first opponent will be North Platte Community College, while the second opponent will be determined by the outcomes of the first round of games. As the calendar reaches its final days, the Lady Bengals make their annual trip west, and this season they will return to Arizona. Among the opponents in the Grand Canyon State is Pima Community College, who had a resurgent year in 2008-09, and finished third in the NJCAA Tournament. Next is Glendale Community College, who was part of one of the most thrilling games in LSU Eunice history. The fast-pace offenses of both teams resulted in a 106-105 final score, with the Lady Bengals coming out on top after taking the lead in the final seconds of the game. The Fighting Artichokes of Scottsdale Community College are once
again schedule to play, as well as South Mountain Community College. The year 2010 will be brought in with a home game against Murray State, in a potential rematch from earlier in the season during Murray’s home tournament. Mississippi Gulf Coast will also take part in the LSU Eunice New Year’s Classic. Baton Rouge Community College in its inaugural season with women’s basketball are on the schedule twice against the Lady Bengals Regular opponents Delgado Community College, Southern University Shreveport, Mountain View College and Jacksonville help finish the back-end of the Lady Bengals schedule. Michael Bari knows what it takes to be respected. A tough schedule is always something that is praised by pollsters, and he agrees that the schedule is of the highest quality in the nation. “Our schedule is one of the more competitive schedules we’ve had. Being an independent, it’s difficult to balance the home and away games, and as usual we will be traveling to get our schedule complete.” “Our trip to Arizona will enable us to play the highly ranked Pima CC. A threegame tournament at Murray State will provide solid, Division I competition. A lengthy trip to Highland, Kansas will give us an opportunity to play some Division II teams. Our fall classic is one of the best we’ve compiled over the last five years bringing in Butler CC and Southwest Tennessee, both very competitive programs. Our New Year’s Classic brings an up and coming team in Murray State and an always athletic rival in Mississippi Gulf Coast CC.” “Our postseason will be one of the most difficult in the last five years, now having to win two games in Oklahoma, and then traveling to Wichita, Kansas to earn a berth to the NJCAA nationals.”

Head Coach Michael Bari Sixth Year at LSU Eunice (103-55)
M
ichael Bari enters his sixth season as the Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Louisiana State University Eunice, and has led the Lady Bengals to a finish in the final four at the 2007 National Junior College Athletic Association National Tournament. In his time with LSU Eunice, he has won over 100 games in five seasons, and 4 postseason appearances in five years, including the aforementioned National Tournament berth. His record with LSU Eunice stands at 103-55. Bari was hired as the second Head Coach in program history in August 2004. Bari’s first coaching experience came after he was brought on to be a graduate assistant for the East Stroudsburg University Baseball team. Bari’s graduate experience proved valuable in his development as a coach. While at ESU, Bari served as the assistant baseball coach and pitching coach for the NCAA Division II program. Bari led a rotation that included the Pitcher of the Year in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference, and three seven-game winners in a season which had the Warriors participating in the NCAA Division II South Atlantic Regional in 1985. In addition to his work on the playing fields, Bari worked hard in the classroom. In 1986, his hard work paid off, and he was awarded his Masters in Education degree. From East Stroudsburg, Bari moved on to Penn State University - Behrend College campus in 1986. As the Head Baseball Coach, Bari took over a program in transition, going from a NJCAA program to an NCAA Division III program. He also was Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach for the PSU-Behrend Lady Lions team, Intramural Supervisor, and Health/Physical Education instructor for the university. He also served as radio play-by-play announcer for WPSE 1450-AM and called games for the Men’s Basketball team among other events. After four years with Penn State – Behrend, Bari accepted his first head coaching position in the sport of basketball.
Bari was hired at Alderson Broaddus College in Phillipi, West Virginia in 1990. As the Head Women’s Basketball Coach, Bari led the Battlers to a 10-17 record and a West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament berth. Bari also assisted with the women’s volleyball program, taught courses in the Health/Physical Education Department and started a club softball team for the campus’ student population. After spending one season at Alderson Broaddus, Bari returned home to Pennsylvania. Bari was brought in to be the Head Baseball Coach and Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach at Gannon University. Gannon, an NCAA D-II institution in Erie, Pennsylvania, is located just minutes away from where Bari grew up. He led the Golden Knights Baseball program to a school record 23 wins in his final season. In his first season as an assistant for the Lady Knights Basketball team, Bari helped bring the team back to their winning ways. After finishing 13-13 in 1992, it was the first .500+ season for the Lady Knights since 1988. During Bari’s tenure, he also served as a member of the NCAA Central Atlantic Regional Selection Committee for two years. In 1995, Bari decided that he wanted to leave coaching to spend more time
with his wife and kids, and moved to Scottsdale, Arizona. While there, he was the owner of Advantage Sports Consulting. At ASC, Bari ran individual and small group clinics for young baseball and basketball players. He also was a seminar director for elderly groups and helped them with health related issues and raising their awareness in general wellness. Bari has taken these core values he taught to the groups, and relates that to his student-athletes, to help them lead healthier lifestyles after basketball. In 2001, Bari accepted an offer to become the Head Men’s Basketball Coach at Colorado Northwestern Community College in Rangely, Colorado. Bari served as an assistant for one season under former Head Coach Paul Conrad after he announced his retirement. During his time at CNCC, Bari’s skills in athletics were shown in the variety of positions he held. Among his assignments at the school, Bari was the Athletic Director, Head Men’s Basketball Coach, Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach, Head Women’s Basketball Coach, Head Volleyball Coach, and Head of the Physical Education. He also held the positions of NJCAA Region XVIII Women’s Assistant Executive Director and Scenic West Athletic Conference Basketball/Golf Chairperson. After leaving Colorado, Bari joined the Lady Bengals Basketball program. Bari’s

Assistant Coach ERIC HOOD Fourth Year with the Lady Bengals
E
ric Hood enters his fourth campaign with the Lady Bengals. Hood was hired as an assistant in 2006 to fill the position vacated when Terrence McCutcheon resigned following the 2005-06 season. In his first year with the Lady Bengals, Hood brought in his knowledge of the local basketball scene to help the Lady Bengals ascend to the top. Hood assisted head coach Michael Bari in bringing the Lady Bengals to their best regular season finish in school history in 2006-07. He also helped usher the squad to the 2007 NJCAA National Tournament in Phoenix, Arizona. Hood joined the Lady Bengals following six years of coaching at Live Oak High School in Watson, Louisiana. While at Live Oak, Hood was a key cog in the
entire athletic department. Hood was the Head Girls Basketball Coach for the Lady Eagles. He also served as the boy’s basketball coach prior to working full time with the girl’s squad. Hood served as an assistant coach as well on the Live Oak football team for all six years. Hood managed game statistics as well as coordinating game film. Hood also held the position of Weight Room Coordinator, and helped get the student-athletes to their peak strength potential. Outside of Live Oak, Hood was a counselor at the LSU Sue Gunter and Pokey Chatman basketball summer camps. He also helped coach future Lady Bengals such as Michele Yawn, Kayla Armstrong, and Natalie Engler as the head coach of the Livingston Ladies AAU team. Hood, a native of Watson, Louisiana,
also attended Live Oak High School. While there, he was an All-District and All-Livingston Parish selection during his career on the basketball team. A multisport star, he also was a two-way football player; starting at both cornerback, and leading the team at quarterback. Hood also played baseball and ran track for the Eagles. A highlight of his playing career was playing under local legend Eddie Vaughn. Vaughn has coached many levels of basketball, and selected Hood to play in the International Sports Challenge team in Europe where they took the bronze medal. Eric chose to end his playing days, and attended school at Southeastern University in Hammond, Louisiana. Eric’s parents are Micia and James Hood, who continue to call Watson home. Both are fans of the Lady Bengals, and are frequent attendees of LSU Eunice basketball games.
Assistant Coach JamiEN ARVIE First Year with the Lady Bengals • Lady Bengal Alumna Jamien Arvie is entering her first season at Louisiana State University Eunice as an Assistant Basketball Coach for the Lady Bengals. She is very excited to once again be part of the program, and working with her former coaching staff, Head Coach Michael Bari and Assistant Eric Hood. Jamien hails from Chataignier, Louisiana, only nine miles away from Eunice. Jamien’s parents, Jimmy and Angelia Arvie, still live in her hometown. Two of her three younger brothers are in middle school and high school, and the oldest currently attends Grambling State University. Jamien graduated from Ville Platte High School, and was teammates with former Lady Bengal Renotta Edwards. Throughout her time as a Bulldog, Jamien earned many awards for both basketball and softball, as well as many academic
12
awards as well. It was this level of achievement that garnered the attention of Coach Michael Bari. Jamien signed on to play with the Lady Bengals in 2005, along with a talented freshman class that was hailed as one of the most talented groups in school history. In her sophomore season, Jamien ascended as the de facto captain of the team, and kept a watchful eye over the freshmen. This leadership ability translated on the floor as well, as she played a big part in the team’s record 27 win season and National Tournament appearance. Jamien was among the top 5 in Field Goal percentage during the tournament and assited in the team’s highest national finish in their short history. Her hard work off the floor paid off, and she graduated with an Associate’s Degree in Business Management, and signed to play with the Lady Pilots of
LSU Shreveport. Her time at LSU Shreveport proved to be just as fruitful, as she helped take her club to their first National Tournament in the NAIA. She graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in English, and is planning to continue her education in the future. Jamien is extremely excited to be back home to begin her coaching career in a friendly and familiar environment and hopes that all she has learned will help bring the Lady Bengals continued success now, and into the future.

A lOOK BACK AT
2008-2009
The LSU Eunice Women’s Basketball team had their season ended earlier than they had hoped when they fell to North Arkansas College 92-71 in the NJCAA District B Championship Game. After a season of towering peaks and diminutive valleys, this Lady Bengal campaign has been filled with noteworthy events that were not few and far between. The Lady Bengals opened their season 2-1 at home after their opening day Lady Bengal Classic Tournament, and a win versus Shorter College of Arkansas. After that good start, the first dose of adversity would ensue, as the team would embark on a program record 13 straight road games, which would go through the end of the year 2008. The first of many road trips began in Tennessee, where LSU Eunice’s young team saw its first losing streak of the year develop. Two losses to Volunteer State College and Columbia State College, 69-80 and 76-93, respectively, seemed to have maybe shaken the team’s confidence. With only 3 returning sophomores, inconsistency was inevitable. After three more losses, the losing streak reached 5 straight games, and the team’s record fell to a program worst 2-6. Now in Kansas, waiting for the 2nd game of a two game tournament vs. Allen County, LSU Eunice needed a win or else the team may be close to not qualifying for the District Tournament. After playing a hard fought game, and the return of Amanda Fontentot, who was lost in the preseason to a knee injury, helped lead the Bengals to an overtime victory over ACCC 81-75. The team finished the trip splitting the final two games, and returned home with a 4-7 record.
Quanessa Batiste
Needing a change, Coach Bari tried to put a new twist on his offensive system. Taking those tweaks into Houston against rival San Jacinto, the team put together a 99-94 victory, which by all accounts was one of the more exciting games to watch all season. The 4 game road trip in Arizona proved to be one of the highlights of the year, with two major milestones achieved. After splitting the first two games, the Bengals faced off against Glendale Community College. In a game between two teams who employ up-tempo offenses, the pace was beyond fast and frenetic. Lead changes back and forth, and three pointers falling on both ends of the floor helped keep the game close, but the difference was on the free throw line. Freshman guard Candace LaCombe was sent to the free throw line 21 times, and she connected on all of them. Setting new national records, for both made in a game, and
consecutive made over the course of a season, at that point, it was 48 straight free throws drained. Danielle Morgan also was sent to the free throw line; however her situation was slightly more pressure-packed. Down by 1, with only seconds to spare, Morgan was successful on both shots, with her family in attendance, to give the Lady Bengals the lead, and ultimately the win 106-105. Following the trip to Arizona and holiday break, the team returned to Eunice, and actually had home games in their sights. The team enjoyed the familiarity of home, and won eight of their next nine games, including scoring at least 100 points five times during that run. Of the two 100 point performances, they scored 115 against San Jacinto College, a team record in an NJCAA game. And 123 versus the Louisiana Ladies, their second-most points scored in any game (126 in 2005). After clinching their spot in the
E
Candace LaCombe

Danielle Morgan District B Tournament, the Lady Bengals still had games on their schedule, including the most dramatic game in recent memory against Meridian CC. After a relatively dominant performance out of the Bengals, the game ended early after the opposing coach was ejected and the game subsequently forfeited. The coach’s technical foul at the end of the game helped Jennifer Hicks tie her own teammate’s record she recently broke for making 21 straight free throws during the game. Certainly a bizarre finish to a dramatic game, but a win is a win no matter how it comes, and one that would hopefully prepare LSU Eunice for the high drama of playoff basketball. The team took the long journey to Harrison, a small town in the northern portion of Arkansas, and was matched up with Johnson County Community College, a perennial rival in playoff games. After falling last season, LSU Eunice wanted to vindicate last year’s squad by pulling off the big win. An inspired effort from the starters to the end of the bench
culminated in an 83-78 victory, and gave the Lady Bengals a spot in the Championship game against the home team of North Arkansas. The result was not as inspired, falling to the Pioneers 92-71, and sending the Bengals home with a final record of 19-12. A season full of individual accomplishment overshadowed the leaps and bounds improvements made as a unit on the floor. Candace LaCombe led the team in points, tallying 611, tying Amanda Romero for 4th most in team history as just a freshman. She also drained 86 three point field goals, also ranking 4th in team history behind Katie Broussard. Quanessa Batiste scored 193 field goals, tying her for 4th in team history with
Kayla Gums; she also finished with the second best scoring average on the squad with 15.9 points per game. Amanda Fontenot missed the first seven games of the season, but was still able to assist on 154 field goals, ranking her 4th in team history behind last season’s leader Chelsie Guillory’s 183. Sierra Goldwire recorded 28 blocks, ranking 5th, but Jennifer Hicks led the way in that department, racking up 72 in 31 games, putting her 2nd on the all time list behind Casey Broussard. Hicks also broke Broussard’s blocks in a game record of seven by rejecting eight shots against Mississippi Gulf Coast CC on January 2nd.
