WHY LSU?
Why LSU?
LSU
David Toms 2001 PGA Champion and LSU Graduate
“As far back as I can remember, I have literally bled purple and gold. It never crossed my mind that there was anywhere else to go other than LSU. The experiences and relationships that I developed at LSU have been an integral part of my life. No other colleges existed in my mind. I am fortunate to have attended a place that I considered a dream and look forward to my association with the University until the day I die.”
“It was really quite an honor to be able to play for LSU. Being from Lockport, everybody down there is a big LSU fan. Once I graduated from high school and had to make the decision where I was going to play, LSU was the obvious choice because I had grown up an LSU fan and it was a place where my family could watch me play. LSU really helped me grow both as a player and a person. I have nothing but fond memories of the place.”
“Throughout the entire recruiting process I always knew LSU was the best choice. Being from the great state of Louisiana, LSU was a home away from home. I knew that this would be a place I could grow as a student-athlete and a young man. The coaches, faculty, and the 92,000 marvelous fans only help to make the decision much easier. Looking back on it, I couldn’t have asked for more from the experience.”
“I was basically an in-state guy and had always thought about going to LSU for football and to get a good education. I made a lot of visits to different schools in my selection process, but everything always pointed toward LSU. My heart and my family guided me in that direction not just for the athletics, but for the academics as well. From top to bottom LSU has good people from the coaches on down the line.”

Did You Know? • In the 2009 and 2010 editions of U.S. News & World Report’s America’s Best Colleges, LSU is ranked in the first tier for “Best National Universities.” • LSU is the only public university in Louisiana designated as having very high research activity (RU/VH) by the prestigious Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, the highest ranking awarded to doctorate-granting institutions. • LSU was named to the 2009 President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll, the highest federal recognition a college or university can receive for its commitment to volunteering, service-learning and civic engagement, by the Corporation for National and Community Service. • LSU earned the prestigious Carnegie Community Engagement and Outreach classification in 2008, one of 68 public institutions nationally with this elective
classification based on community engagement. • LSU is one of only a handful of universities in the nation having land-grant, sea-grant and space-grant status. • LSU currently ranks among the top 30 public universities in total research awards. The University’s total federal funding; from
agencies such as the National Science Foundation, National Institutes of Health, and the Department of Homeland Security; has increased 86 percent or more than $90 million over the last five years. • Newsweek magazine named LSU the “Most Diverse” school in the nation in the Sept. 3, 2003, issue. UNIVERSITY CLUB
For the past decade, the LSU men’s and women’s golf teams have called University Club home. The course received the honor of being ranked the 13thbest home for college golf in the country, according to a survey published in the September 2005 issue of Golf Digest. The evaluation by Golf Digest ranked the top 15 home courses in college golf, and included such criteria as shot values, resistance to scoring, course layout and design, memorability and conditioning. After undergoing extensive renovations over the past year, the home of LSU’s nationally-ranked programs features a newly-designed par-72 layout that will serve as an impressive showpiece for generations to come.

2010-11 LSU Men’s Golf MEDIA GUIDE
The course at the University Club was re-designed under the guidance of LSU legend and PGA Tour pro David Toms and renowned golf course architect Jim Lipe, who designed the original University Club in 1998. The course is carved into nearly 300 acres of land just seven miles south of the LSU campus on Nicholson Drive. It comes as no surprise that the University Club has already been selected as an NCAA Men’s Golf Regional host site for the 2013 season, marking the first time in the illustrious history of the LSU men’s golf program that the Tigers will serve as hosts to an NCAA postseason tournament on its home course. The challenging 18-hole, par-72 course at University Club will play to 7,700 yards from its championship tees and feature wide fairways bordered by pine hammocks and native grasses, in addition to 2,000 feet of beautiful bulkhead. Four additional sets of tees are also available for players of all ages and skill levels. In addition, the lake areas have been increased by 110,000 cubic yards in total and more than 500 trees have been added throughout the course to provide a challenging test of golf for anyone playing the University Club. Not only that, but the course now has one of the most impressive finishing holes in golf as the 18th hole on the back nine features a new championship “Tiger” tee with a beautiful six-foot high wood bulkhead. The lake was expanded near the green, where an additional 180 feet of bulkhead was also added. The course was built on land donated to the Tiger Athletic Foundation and subsequently leased to The University Club. The original vision that drove University Club’s development was having a premier course that would provide a place for TAF members to play, as well as a home for the men’s and women’s golf teams at LSU. The course opened for members on Oct. 22, 1998. The swimming and tennis facility adjacent to the course opened in the summer of 2000. The surrounding housing development continues to grow as homes continue to spring up, adding to the beauty of the area surrounding the golf course. The Tiger Athletic Foundation is a private, non-profit corporation that serves as the fund-raising and development arm of the LSU athletics department. Each year, the TAF underwrites scholarship and academics awards, as well as capital development projects for LSU athletics.

LSU GOLF HOUSE
The LSU Golf House opened in the fall of 2002 to rave reviews from players, coaches and members of the athletic administration alike. This $850,000 facility funded by the Tiger Athletic Foundation functions primarily as a golf-learning center for the LSU men’s and women’s teams where student-athletes are able to improve their skills at one of the premier practice facilities in the nation. The Golf House features a lavish meeting room, office space for both the men’s and women’s coaching staffs and an area devoted to equipment repair and storage. It also includes locker rooms, an indoor driving range with two hitting bays and a state-of-the-art learning center which can utilize video analysis to benefit each player’s development in a classroom setting.
LSU
Outside the facility is a practice tee box that measures 100 yards in length, a brand new wedge game area built in 2007 and a 10,000 square-foot putting and pitching green surrounded by practice bunkers where players are able to practice in a spacious environment. Chuck Winstead, who is the head coach of the men’s golf team and a Top 100 Teacher according to Golf Magazine, believes that having such a facility is essential in the development of his players and is evidence that LSU is committed to running a first-class program. “The facility offers our student-athletes an environment second to none to excel and reach their potential,” Winstead said. “The combination of state-of-the-art technology to work on their game combined with our indoor putting area to fine-tune their stroke enables our players to maximize their ability. We are able to utilize the tools we have to get the best out of each player and teach them in a comfortable setting.” LSU women’s head coach Karen Bahnsen echoed Winstead’s sentiments, saying that she enjoys having the opportunity to utilize the facility’s many features to teach her players in a productive atmosphere. “There’s no question that the LSU Golf House offers our student-athletes state-ofthe-art instructional technology to take their game to another level,” Bahnsen said. “Our two indoor hitting bays, club repair room with a lie and loft machine and video center allows each coach to teach the players in the most effective way possible. We also have a large meeting room that allows us to meet as a team and discuss course strategy and work with our team on all mental aspects of the game.”

PRACTICE FACILITIES
LSU
Hitting Bay
The LSU Golf House at the University Club features an indoor driving range with two hitting bays that give the Tigers an opportunity to practice in a climate-controlled environment.
Tee Box Members of the LSU men’s and women’s golf teams have the opportunity to practice in a spacious environment as The LSU Golf House features a large tee box measuring 100 yards in length.
Wedge Game
Putting Green
The practice facilities at The LSU Golf House feature a brand new wedge game area with three target greens, each measuring 2,000 square feet. Players can fine-tune their wedge game by hitting shots from all lies and angles up to 120 yards as the greens are guarded by rough and five bunkers. The project, designed by LSU alumni David Toms, Jim Lipe and Chuck Winstead, was completed in the summer of 2007.
In addition to building a new wedge game area, recent renovations to the practice facilities at The LSU Golf House saw the completion of a brand new putting green measuring 10,000 square feet along with an existing putting green measuring 14,000 square feet that has been overseeded with bent grass. In all, the improvements to the practice facilities at The LSU Golf House are estimated at $150,000.

HOLES 1-2-3 No. 2
U-Club New Look Hole-By-Hole
In its original state, the U-Club played at just over 7,200 yards from its Tiger Tees and just over 6,000 yards for the early LSU Women’s Golf Classics. Now the course measures out at a hefty 7,700 yards from the Tiger Tees and an impressive 6,602 yards from member tees. Here are some of the design changes and characteristics of the new course and pictures of some of the more interesting holes (tees are listed in the following order: Tiger-Scratch-Member-Senior-Ladies/Jrs.)
Distances No. 3
Tiger Tee – 3892-3808 – 7700 Scratch – 3648-3586 – 7234 Member -- 3377-3225 – 6602
Senior – 3043-2935 – 5978 Ladies/Jrs. – 2660-2643 -- 5303
No. 1 – Par 4 – 456-402-385-349-274 A new championship tee lengthens the hole some 50 yards. The former waste bunker on the left side has been replaced by an area of pine hammock and several new trees have been planted in the right rough. On the approach shot, players will have to watch for a new grass hollow that replaced greenside bunkers. No. 2 – Par 4 – 447-435-382-324-312 A good hole that didn’t need a lot of change. Two new bunkers will tempt those looking to carry a drive and the left side of the green has been raised to create a top shelf pin placement. No. 3 – Par 5 – 673-632-578-542-496 Can you say long? The No.1 handicap hole on the course has had 53 yards added to its Tiger distance and features native grass areas down both sides of a fairway that was much easier to hit. The water has also been expanded off the tee, replacing the old fairway bunker. The green has been elevated to make a more demanding approach.

No. 4
No. 4 – Par 4 – 375-341-315-288-231 This was a short par 4 that some long hitters could put the ball at the edge of the green with an accurate drive. That task will be a little tougher as the left side water now extends into the fairway. The green has also been extended back for an addition hole location. No. 5 – Par 3 – 189-172-155-137-96 This picturesque par 3 loses the wide bail-out area on the right as you look from the tee. The lake now extends closer to the green making accuracy everything from the tee box. No. 6 – Par 5 – 573-554-522-478-450 This hole takes on a whole new identity with a new lake down the entire length of the hole. A creek also crosses the fairway, directly in the landing zone of most hitters. The creek extends into a pond at the green making the approach shot more demanding.

No. 7 – Par 4 – 471-457-431-401-349 The beginning of a tough stretch of three holes to close the front nine. Native grasses have replaced the wetlands in front of the tee box. A fairway bunker has been added and a grass hollow is now left of the green. No. 8 – Par 3 – 222-188-166-130-107 The long par-3 eighth has undergone a complete renovation. The tee box has been reshaped and elevated some seven feet. The water on the hole has been expanded to the front left of the green. The putting surface has also been reshaped and three new bunkers added. No. 9 – par 4 – 486-467-443-394-345 The second longest par 4 on the course has had several trees planted down the right side. Waste bunkers have been replaced by pine hammock areas and native grass comes into play on the left side. The result is a much tighter landing area to try to place a drive.

No. 10 – Par 4 – 484-444-402-354-327 Golfers will notice the trees down the left side that give the hole new definition. The approach shot will have to avoid pine hammocks short and right of the green. No. 11 – Par 5 – 567-557-516-484-429 This long par 5 has seen native dunes replace fairway bunkers on the left side. A new fairway bunker in the middle of the fairway that is 110 yards out from the green will cause approach problems. The water down the right has been expended close to the newly-elevated green, placing a premium on getting the ball to the hole. No. 12 – Par 4 – 422-410-368-350-307 Several trees will cause problem with errant drives on both sides of the hole. A new sand bunker has replaced a grass bunker in front of the green. An accurate tee shot is a must.

No. 14
No. 13 – Par 3 – 209-179-151-141-119 This is one of the best holes on the course so few changes were needed. Some trees have been added and the green expanded to add hole locations. A straightforward tee shot is necessary with severe bunkers on the left side of the green. No. 14 – Par 4 – 460-448-404-351-317 One of the more intimidating holes on the course with an uncompromising dogleg left leaving little room for error off the tee. Water has been extended into the fairway on the left side and pine hammocks down the right. The green has been expanded to the back and to the right. No. 15 – Par 4 – 365-347-327-287-244 This hole probably has some of the biggest changes on the golf course. There is a new elevated tee box and the right side of the hole features mounding with native grasses. The fairway has been reshaped and bunkers added on the left. The hole has the potential to be played as a drivable par 4.

No. 16 – Par 3 – 253-215-167-144-117 This hole now could play 250 yards over water from the Tiger tee as opposed to the old distance of 188 yards. The existing green has been expanded to the right to allow more hole locations. The bunkers have been taken out and water has been added to the right of the green. No. 17 – Par 5 – 551-528-501-452-443 The hole now has several trees down the right side of the entire hole. The water on the left expands toward the fairway approaching the hole. An added lake at the green makes an accurate approach imperative. Long hitters can reach the green in two. No. 18 – Par 4 – 497-458-389-372-340 The signature hole is one of the best finishing holes in the state. Native grasses have been added both right and left on this dogleg left hole. The lake which has always been in play off the tee now has been expanded near the green, replacing the left greenside bunker. There is 180 yards of bulkhead bordering the left side of the green.

Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics
Joe Alleva LSU Vice-Chancellor/Director of Athletics
Joe Alleva enters his third year as LSU’s Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics after being hired to lead one of the nation’s most powerful athletic programs on April 4, 2008. Alleva joined LSU after 10 years of outstanding leadership as the director of athletics at Duke University. He officially took over at LSU on July 1, 2008. The LSU Board of Supervisors approved a promotion in August 2009 for Alleva, adding vice chancellor to his title and expanding his role to the academic side of the university. It’s the first time at LSU that the director of athletics has also held a vice chancellor position. “I am honored to be named vice chancellor at this outstanding institution and thank Chancellor (Michael) Martin, President (John) Lombardi and the Board of Supervisors for the confidence they have shown in me,” Alleva said. “Athletics is the window through which many people view LSU and it is important that we excel in competition and in the classroom while demonstrating the utmost of integrity. I believe my promotion ties athletics closer to the university and that is a good thing for everyone; we are all on the same team.” Under Alleva’s guidance, LSU has reached new heights in terms of athletic success while continuing to be recognized as one of the top enterprises in college athletics. A veteran leader in college athletics, Alleva is dedicated to athletic and academic excellence. He is committed to providing the opportunities and the resources necessary for student-athletes to excel in competition, in the classroom and in the community. Alleva, 57, is well-respected for sustaining high standards of excellence and integrity in athletic programs, hiring the finest coaches in the country and the high level of success achieved by student-athletes. One of Alleva’s big initiatives on the LSU campus is the launching of a strategic plan for the continued success and future improvement of LSU Athletics. LSU Athletics has produced a new booklet called “LSU: Thru and True” designed to introduce a strategic plan for operating a top tier athletics program. The strategic plan booklet is titled “LSU: Thru and True” because, in the words of Alleva, “Our core values run deep and our commitment to excellence is relentless. At LSU, college athletics is an avenue for providing opportunities, for achieving goals, for generating enthusiasm and for nurturing passion.” The subtitle of the booklet is “Excellence in Competition, Distinction in the Classroom, and Contribution to the Community.” The strategic plan addresses various topics including quality of life for student-athletes; academic and athletic excellence; compliance and ethics; financial responsibility; diversity, inclusion and equity; tradition and history, and service and communication. The plan also includes a vision for the future of LSU athletics facilities, highlighted by plans to improve North Stadium Drive between Tiger Stadium and the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. Alleva is an innovator with bold ideas that benefit not only LSU but all of Greater Baton Rouge. Alleva was heavily involved in the planning of the inaugural Bayou Country Superfest, a two-day country music concert and festival held in Tiger Stadium last spring. The event attracted nearly 100,000 visitors to the LSU campus and made a tremendous economic impact upon the local community. Seventeen of LSU’s 20 sports programs participated in post-season competition in 2009-10, including the Tiger football squad that played in a bowl game for the 10th-straight season. Six LSU teams posted Top 10 national finishes last season, and 12 were ranked among the Top

25. LSU finished in the Top 20 of the Learfield Director’s Cup rankings, which measure overall athletic success for institutions across the country. Under Alleva’s direction in 2008-09, all 20 LSU sports competed in NCAA post-season play for the first time in school history, and it culminated with the baseball team winning the national championship. In addition, six teams finished in the top 10 nationally. LSU was the only school in the Southeastern Conference to participate in a bowl game and the men’s and women’s NCAA basketball tournaments during 2008-09. Furthermore, LSU student-athletes volunteered a total of 2,360 hours for community service projects. LSU earned a ninth-place ranking in the 2008-09 Learfield Director’s Cup, as the Tigers were second only to Florida among SEC institutions. LSU accumulated points in 18 of a possible 20 categories in the standings, also a first for the school. Upon being hired at LSU, Alleva immediately made an impact by hiring Trent Johnson to lead the men’s basketball program. Johnson, the 2009 SEC Coach of the Year, wasted little time in turning the Tigers into a winner as LSU claimed the 2009 SEC regular season title and reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament. LSU also had top 10 national finishes in 2008-09 in gymnastics, men’s and women’s indoor track and field and men’s and women’s outdoor track and field. Thirteen of LSU’s 20 sports finished the year ranked among the top 25 in the nation. The Tiger football team capped their 2008 season with a 38-3 win over 14th-ranked Georgia Tech in the Chick-fil-A Bowl. During the offseason, Alleva helped secure the funding necessary for the addition of a state-of-the-art artificial turf practice field, which complements the surface the Tigers have in their indoor practice facility. The addition of the outdoor artificial turf field gives the LSU football program one of the nation’s finest all-around facilities. Not only did LSU teams set records but so did the fans, as over 1.5 million fans filled venues on the LSU campus in 2008-09. LSU set the school record for overall attendance in the sports of football, baseball and softball. Alleva oversaw in the spring of 2009 the grand opening of two of the premier baseball and softball facilities in college athletics, Alex Box Stadium and Tiger Park. In addition, LSU opened a new gift center for its fans – the LSU SportShop. The LSU SportShop, a spectacular, freestanding facility that features the latest in LSU apparel and merchandise, is located adjacent to Mike’s Habitat. Under Alleva’s guidance, LSU has one of the most lucrative apparel and shoe contracts with Nike while also having one of the nation’s most attractive multi-media rights contracts with CBS Collegiate Sports Properties. LSU athletic budget is now approaching $85 million, which allows the university to compete at the highest level in the nation. Alleva has a long-term vision for continued improvements to LSU’s athletic facilities in order to insure that the Tigers are among the best in the country well into the 21st Century. One of his top priorities is the enhancement of Tiger Stadium and making Tiger Stadium and the North Stadium Drive corridor a showplace for the university. Alleva’s innovative plan is to make a plaza area between
the Maravich Assembly Center and Tiger Stadium that would recognize LSU’s national championship teams and distinguished alumni. This special area, along with Mike’s Habitat, and the LSU SportShop, would become the focal point for visitors to campus. LSU opened in the spring of 2010 a basketball practice facility that houses both the men’s and women’s basketball teams. The new basketball practice facility features two full length courts as well as locker rooms and other amenities for both squads. Alleva is also overseeing a major renovation to the golf course at the University Club that will be completed in September 2010, and he is developing plans for a new gymnastics practice facility, indoor tennis center and improved soccer facility. LSU’s world-renowned track and field program will receive a state-of the-art running surface this year when a new track is installed in Bernie Moore Stadium. “Joe Alleva brings a wealth of experience and accomplishment to LSU,” LSU President John Lombardi said of hiring Alleva. “I’m confident we’ve found a new leader for LSU athletics who exemplifies the vision and integrity needed to lead our sports programs to new heights, a champion of student athletes who believes in the highest standards of competition both on the field and in the classroom.” Alleva’s impressive tenure as director of athletics at Duke propelled the university into the ranks of America’s top all-around collegiate programs. Among his outstanding list of accomplishments includes the greatest 10-year period in Duke athletics, winning more ACC and NCAA championships than in any other decade in school history. Also, his fundraising reached extensive heights providing new facilities or renovations for all 26 sports at Duke, which enhanced the experience for every studentathlete. Alleva is active on the national collegiate athletics scene, having served on the Football Bowl Certification Committee. He sat on several Atlantic Coast Conference committees and served on the NCAA Division I Championships/Competition Cabinet. Alleva majored in Finance at Lehigh University and received his bachelor’s degree in 1975. While at Lehigh, Alleva was the quarterback of the football team and team captain in 1974. Alleva also played on the Lehigh baseball team. He served as a graduate assistant football coach and earned an MBA in 1976. Alleva began his 32-year career at Duke University in 1976. He spent 28 years in the athletic administration prior to becoming director of athletics in 1998. Alleva played a key role in Durham’s community sports scene. He started Little League Baseball in Durham over 20 years ago, and also began the American Legion baseball program Alleva is a member of the North Carolina American Legion Hall of Fame, Suffern High School Hall of Fame and the Rockland County Hall of Fame. He currently serves on the Louisiana State Board of the Special Olympics. Alleva and his wife, Annie, have three children, J.D., Jeff and Jenny.

Dr. Michael V. Martin Chancellor, LSU
Dr. Michael V. Martin assumed the chancellorship of Louisiana State University and A&M College on August 1, 2008. Prior to his appointment as LSU’s eighth chancellor, Dr. Martin established a distinguished career in higher education, serving most recently as president of New Mexico State University. Before arriving at NMSU in 2004, Dr. Martin served for six years as vice president for agriculture and natural resources at the University of Florida, leading the university’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences. He was elevated to senior vice president of the University of Florida shortly before being selected as NMSU’s president. Previously, he was vice president for agricultural policy and the dean of the College of Agricultural, Food and Environmental Sciences at the University of Minnesota. He began his academic career at Oregon State University as a faculty member in the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics. An academic leader dedicated to the land-grant mission, Dr. Martin is recognized as a strong voice for higher education. In 2007, he received the Justin Smith Morrill Memorial Award, named after the author of the bill creating land-grant universities, which honors outstanding service on behalf of the land-grant mission. Only six individuals have been designated to receive this award since it was first given in 1980. For his leadership in improving the quality of life for New Mexico citizens and future generations, he was awarded the 2008 Distinguished Leadership Award by Leadership New Mexico. Other recent awards include his recognition as a powerbroker by The New Mexico Business Weekly in 2006, being named Outstanding Alumnus of Minnesota State University Mankato in 2006, and receiving the NMSU Social Justice Award in 2005. Dr. Martin is involved in a wide array of professional and community organizations and activities. An active scholar, Dr. Martin has authored numerous book chapters and articles for academic journals, trade publications, and the popular press and recently published pieces for The Chronicle of Higher Education and University Business. Some of his philosophy is summed up in the following quote: “It is the tradition of land-grant universities to be non-traditional,” written as part of a 2001 article titled “The Land-Grant University in the 21st Century,” published in the Journal of Agricultural and Applied Economics. He traced the history of the land-grant movement from the mid-1800s and concluded that “the fundamental land-grant principles of accessibility, practical as well as classical education, research and discovery in the public interest, and connectedness to all the people remain powerful and profound.” A native of Crosby, Minn., Dr. Martin earned a bachelor’s degree in business and economics and a master’s degree in economics at Mankato State College (Minnesota State University) in Minnesota. He received his Ph.D. in applied economics from the University of Minnesota in 1977. Dr. Martin and his wife, Jan, have two children, both adopted from South Korea. Amanda, a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, is a graphic artist in Saint Paul, Minn. Sam, who holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Minnesota and a master’s from Sarah Lawrence College, is a genetics counselor at Beth Israel Hospital in New York City.

SEASON PREVIEW LSU Golf Enjoys Time in National Spotlight The LSU men’s golf team put an exclamation point onto the end of an outstanding season in 2009-10 by joining the nation’s elite programs at The Honors Course in Chattanooga, Tenn., for the 2010 NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championships. It marked LSU’s first appearance in the prestigious event since 1997, and the Tigers responded with a 24th-place finish in the team standings while reclaiming their position as one of the premier programs in college golf. In fact, LSU won three tournament championships for the second year in a row and earned a pair of fifth-place finishes at the SEC Championships and NCAA Central Regional Championships en route to an appearance at the national tournament in the season finale. And the Tigers are hungry for more in 2010-11 as they return their entire starting five from the lineup that competed at the NCAA Championships in June and welcome one of the nation’s top recruiting classes to campus this fall. There is no doubt that LSU is poised to compete for an SEC championship and a spot in match play at this year’s NCAA Championships with one of the more talented teams in the game under sixth-year head coach Chuck Winstead. The Tigers are sure to be led again this year by the AllAmerican duo of Andrew Loupe and John Peterson, who each received honorable mention All-America recognition a season ago. Loupe emerged as one of the true stars in the college game with his performance in 2009-10 as he led the team with a 72.0 scoring average in 13 appearances with a team-leading four top-five, six top-10 and eight top-20 finishes on the season. That includes a tie for fourth place at the SEC Championships and a tie for sixth place at the NCAA Central Regional Championships. Loupe’s scoring average of 72.0 ranked No. 8 among all golfers in the SEC, and was a new career best by nearly two strokes. The Baton Rouge native earned his first career First-Team All-SEC honor, and a pair of honorable mention All-America honors from PING and Golfweek. Peterson was just as impressive as he also set a new career-low scoring average of 72.29 for a No. 12 ranking among golfers in the SEC. He also recorded two top-five, three top-10 and five top-20 finishes on the year to help lead the Tigers to their most successful season in more than a decade. A native of Fort Worth, Texas, Peterson cemented his All-America status for the second year in a row with an impressive performance at the NCAA Championships. He tied for sixth place individually with a score of 5-under 211 to become the first LSU Tiger since Perry Moss in 1991 to place in the top 10 of the leaderboard in the event. That effort helped land Peterson an honorable mention All-America honor from PING following second-team selection from both PING and Golfweek in 2009.

SEASON PREVIEW Also back to lead the Tigers in 2010-11 are a trio of NCAA Championships veterans in senior Clayton Rotz and juniors Austin Gutgsell and Sang Yi. The Tigers also welcome a star-studded recruiting class that features the likes of senior transfer and All-America candidate Ken Looper, as well as prep stars Franco Castro (Alpharetta, Ga.), Smylie Kaufman (Birmingham, Ala.), Landon Lyons (Baton Rouge) and Andrew Presley (Fort Worth) as each ranked among the nation’s top 50 recruits for the Class of 2010. The Tigers picked up right where they left off last spring at the NCAA Championships by earning a No. 15 national ranking in the Golfweek Preseason Top 25 poll released Wednesday, Sept. 8. And they carried that momentum into the 2010-11 season opener by capturing the team title at the Gopher Invitational hosted by the University of Minnesota at Spring Hill Golf Club in Wayzata, Minn. The Tigers cruised to victory by 11 shots over Kent State and 20 shots over Arkansas with a 54-hole score of 5-over 869 at the par-72 layout. It marked LSU’s second victory in as many appearances at the Gopher Invitational as the team also opened the 2008-09 season with a win in the event. Rotz set the pace with his best tournament finish in an LSU uniform as he tied for third place with a score of 1-under 215. Both Looper and Peterson opened their campaigns by tying for seventh place, and Yi followed with a tie for 13th place and Gutgsell finished with a tie for 21st place overall. LSU has now won a total of eight tournament titles under Winstead, including seven team titles in its last 25 tournament appearances dating back to the start of the 2008-09 season. The Tigers open the season as the defending champions of the David Toms Intercollegiate, Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate and Louisiana Classics after taking the title in each event a season ago. LSU’s 2010-11 regular season will be highlighted by a pair of home tournaments as the Tigers will play host to the David Toms Intercollegiate at the Country Club of Louisiana from Oct. 18-19 before hosting the LSU National Invitational from April 2-3 in their first event at the newly-renovated University Club in Baton Rouge. LSU has not held an event at the University Club since the 2004-05 season.
LSU
Fla., the John Hayt Invitational (Feb. 27-March 1) in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., the Louisiana Classics (March 7-8) in Lafayette, the Schenkel/E-Z-Go Invitational (March 17-19) in Statesboro, Ga., and the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate (March 27-29) in Awendaw, S.C. The SEC Men’s Golf Championships return to St. Simons Island, Ga., for the 11th-straight season as the Seaside Course at Sea Island Golf Club will play host to the event for the ninth time during that span. This year’s event will be held from April 15-17 as the Tigers enter the season with back-to-back top five finishes at the SEC Championships, including a fifth-place finish in 2010. The NCAA’s new format for postseason play was a smashing success in 2009 as the Texas A&M Aggies were crowned national champions following an eightteam match play tournament. Augusta State followed with a win over Oklahoma State in the national championship match a year ago.
LSU opened the 2010-11 season with a win at the Gopher Invitational.
The 2011 NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championship will be held at Oklahoma State’s Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater, Okla., from May 31-June 5. In the current format, the NCAA individual champion is determined following the conclusion of 54 holes of medal play with the top eight teams from the 30-team field earning a spot in a seeded match play tournament to crown a national champion. The team with the lowest score after three rounds of competition will play the team with the eighth-lowest score, the second-place team will play the seventhplace team and so on until a champion is crowned. The idea is that the newly established format will make the NCAA Championships an attractive option for television coverage in the future. Teams will qualify for a spot in the 30-team field at the NCAA Championships through one of six NCAA Regional tournaments held across the country from May 19-21. Thirteen teams will be selected to compete in each regional tournament with the top-five teams earning a spot in the field at the 2011 NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championships. The Tigers defended their home turf during the 2009 fall season as they captured the team title at the inaugural David Toms Intercollegiate held at the Country Club of Louisiana from Oct. 26-27 of last season. LSU looks to defend its title in the secondannual David Toms Intercollegiate scheduled to run Oct. 18-19, 2010.
The Tigers will look to defend their team title at the David Toms Intercollegiate against a 14-team field that includes the likes of Arkansas, Georgia Southern, Kansas State, Louisiana-Lafayette, Louisiana Tech, Middle Tennessee State, Mississippi State, North Florida, Ole Miss, Rice, South Alabama, Southeastern Louisiana and UAB. In the spring, the Tigers will bring back the LSU National Invitational that was held every year in 32 consecutive seasons from 1961-92 as they welcome a 12-team field that features such programs as Boston College, Iowa, Iowa State, Louisiana-Lafayette, Michigan, Minnesota, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State, Tennessee-Chattanooga and Virginia Commonwealth. The Tigers are also set to compete in such events as the Jack Nicklaus Invitational (Oct. 11-12) in Columbus, Ohio, the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational (Oct. 24-26) in Windermere, Fla., the Gator Invitational (Feb. 12-13) in Gainesville,

HISTORY
HEAD COACH SIXTH SEASON
Golf Magazine Top 100 Teacher Golf Digest’s No. 1 Teacher in Louisiana The LSU men’s golf program has enjoyed a meteoric rise back to the pinnacle of college golf in just five seasons under head coach Chuck Winstead, and if the 2009-10 campaign is any indication, the Tigers are poised to challenge for their first Southeastern Conference crown in 24 years this season with one of the more talented rosters in the country. Winstead enters his sixth season leading a program with four NCAA championships and 15 SEC championships in its illustrious history, and he has quickly transformed the Tigers into a perennial postseason contender during his tenure in Baton Rouge. The Tigers enjoyed their most successful season under Winstead a year ago after winning three tournament championships and earning a 24th-place finish in the 2010 NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championships held at The Honors Course in Chattanooga, Tenn. LSU earned a spot in the NCAA Championships for the first time since 1997. After defending their home turf while capturing the team title at the David Toms Intercollegiate at the Country Club of Louisiana in the fall, Winstead guided the Tigers to wins at the Louisiana Classics in Lafayette and Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate in Awendaw, S.C., in the 2010 spring season. It marked the second year in a row for LSU to win three tournament titles in a season, and the first time since 1965-66 and 1966-67 to win three team championships in two consecutive seasons. The Tigers have captured eight tournament titles under Winstead. He then coached the Tigers to a fifth-place finish at the SEC Men’s Golf Championships, following their tie for fourth place in 2009. LSU earned back-toback top-five finishes at the SEC Championships for the first time since 1992 and 1993. That effort earned the Tigers a No. 5 seed in the NCAA Central Regional Championships hosted by Notre Dame at The Warren Golf Course in South Bend, Ind., where they earned a fifth-place finish in the final standings to qualify for the 30-team field at the NCAA Championships. “We’re very proud of the progress that this program has made in just a few short years, but the work is never done,” Winstead said. “LSU Golf has a great and storied history on a national level, and there is no doubt that the foundation has been laid for us to enjoy that kind of success once again. It’s a very exciting time to be an LSU Tiger.” Winstead, a Ruston native who played at LSU from 1989-91, believes that the foundation of any successful program is built on recruiting the best high school athletes the sport has to offer. In five seasons, Winstead has not only proven himself as one of the premier coaches in the game, but he has also established a reputation as being one of the nation’s top recruiters while attracting many of the premier junior golfers in the country to Baton Rouge since his first class in 2005. LSU will compete with one of the nation’s more talented rosters this season. Two members of Winstead’s first full recruiting class as the head coach open their senior season in 2010-11 after receiving All-America honors a year ago. Standouts Andrew Loupe and John Peterson received honorable mention All-America honors
Winstead was a golfer at LSU from 1989-1991.

“LSU GOLF HAS A GREAT AND STORIED HISTORY ON A NATIONAL LEVEL, AND THERE IS NO DOUBT THAT THE FOUNDATION HAS BEEN LAID FOR US TO ENJOY THAT KIND OF SUCCESS ONCE AGAIN. IT’S A VERY EXCITING TIME TO BE AN LSU TIGER.”
from PING and the Golf Coaches Association of America, while Loupe added an honorable mention selection from Golfweek. It marked the first time since 1989 that two Tigers were named All-Americans in the same season. Loupe enjoyed a breakout junior season a year ago in which he also earned his first First-Team All-SEC honor as an LSU Tiger while finishing the season as the No. 44-ranked performer in the country in Golfweek’s ranking of the top college golfers in the NCAA. He also recorded an impressive career-low scoring average of 72.00 to lead the team. Peterson was also impressive during his junior campaign as he cemented his AllAmerica status with a sixth-place finish individually at the NCAA Championships, becoming the first LSU Tiger to earn a top-10 finish in the event since Perry Moss finished fourth in 1991. He also ended with a new career-low scoring average of 72.29 strokes per round. Winstead’s reputation as one of the top golf teachers in the country has been evident with LSU’s performance over the past five years as the team scoring average has dropped dramatically since his first season as head coach in 2005-06. After averaging 295.6 strokes per round as a team during his inaugural season, the Tigers have lowered their scoring average each season at 296.7 in 2006-07, 293.6 in 2007-08, 293.4 in 2008-09 and an impressive 290.6 a year ago. While the Tigers have enjoyed tremendous success on the course in five seasons under Winstead with two All-America, three All-SEC and four SEC All-Freshman performers, LSU has also achieved great success academically in the classroom with a total of 32 selections to the SEC Academic Honor Roll during his tenure as head coach. In addition, the Tigers also received an NCAA Public Recognition Award in May 2010 in which they were rewarded for finishing among the top 10 percent of NCAA Division I men’s golf programs nationwide in their Academic Progress Rates (APR).

“LSU Golf will be a nationally competitive program again as we attract elite high school golfers to Baton Rouge and provide an environment for improvement that is second to none,” Winstead said. “We will provide our players with the opportunity to be the best they can be both on and off the course. There will be no other program in the country where a young man can go and have the resources he will find at LSU. We’re on the cutting-edge in all areas, and as a result, our players will achieve great things in the future.” Winstead is considered one of the top teaching professionals in the country and has been a Golf Magazine Top 100 Teacher since 2005, joining the likes of Butch Harmon, Peter Kostis, Jim Flick and Tiger standout and recent LSU Hall of Fame inductee Eddie Merrins. In addition, Golf Digest has recognized Winstead as Louisiana’s Top Teacher since 2006. He has been featured on The Golf Channel and frequently appears in such publications as Golf Magazine and Golf Tips Magazine, for which he serves as Senior Instruction Editor. Winstead’s credentials include a five-year association with Jack Nicklaus’ Golden Bear Golf, Inc., in North Palm Beach, Fla., where he served as Director of Instruction for Golden Bear Golf, among other responsibilities. Winstead served as part of the senior management team responsible for developing, managing and initiating the launch of Jack Nicklaus Golf Academies throughout the world. Prior to moving to the University Club in 2000 where he served as Director of Instruction and owner of the Chuck Winstead Golf Academy for five years prior to being named the Tigers’ head coach, Winstead served as Director of Instruction at English Turn Golf and Country Club in New Orleans from 1998-2000. In addition, he also served as the head instructor for the Bob Toski Golf Learning Center in Sunrise, Fla., from 1993-95. Winstead graduated from LSU in 1991. He and wife, Jennifer, are the proud parents of two sons – Trey, 11, and David, 8 – and are active members of First United Methodist Church in Baton Rouge.

ASSISTANT COACH SIXTH SEASON
Shane Warren enters his sixth season as an assistant coach with the LSU men’s golf program as he is responsible for assisting head coach Chuck Winstead in LSU’s recruiting efforts, coordinating practice sessions, providing assistance at tournaments and handling all day-to-day responsibilities with the team. With Warren’s assistance, the Tigers have advanced to NCAA postseason play in each of the last three seasons, including a trip to the 2010 NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championships a season ago. LSU earned a spot in the 30-team field at the NCAA Championships following a fifth place finish at the NCAA Central Regional Championships. The Tigers are poised to build upon their 24th-place finish in the national championships a year ago as they compete this season with their most talented roster in more than a decade. “I’ve enjoyed every minute in my time here at LSU working with Chuck to help build the program into what it is today. And there is still a lot of work to be done,” Warren said. “I’m one of the fortunate few to wake up every day and do something that I love and am passionate about. The opportunity to work alongside Chuck in this capacity is something that I am very proud of, and learning from him has been everything I knew it would be. I’m excited of what is to come for the LSU men’s golf program.”
With Warren’s assistance, LSU has established itself as one of the Top 20 golf programs in the NCAA once again while earning a No. 15 national ranking in the Golfweek Preseason Top 25 poll for the 2010-11 season. This comes on the heels of climbing as high as No. 12 nationwide in the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index during the 2009-10 campaign. The foundation of LSU’s success has been built on recruiting the nation’s premier players to Baton Rouge, and Warren has certainly demonstrated his recruiting prowess in his tenure. The Tigers were led to their most successful season in 15 years last spring by a pair of All-Americans as Andrew Loupe and John Peterson received honorable mention All-America honors from PING and the Golf Coaches Association of America. Loupe also received honorable mention All-America honors from Golfweek following the season. Their selection marked the first time that LSU has had two golfers earn AllAmerica honors in the same season since David Toms (first team) and Greg Lesher (second team) in 1989. Peterson also earned second-team All-America honors from both Golfweek and PING in 2009. In six seasons as an LSU assistant coach, Warren has helped develop two AllAmericans, three All-SEC performers and four members of the SEC All-Freshman Team. That success helped Warren earn national recognition in 2010 as he was a semifinalist for the Jan Strickland Award, which honors the assistant coach for NCAA Division, I, II, III, National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics or National Junior College Athletics Association that has excelled in working with their studentathletes in success on the course and in the classroom. Warren served in the same capacity with head coach Karen Bahnsen and the nationally-ranked LSU women’s golf program from 2003 through the end of the 2006 season. He is considered one of the top assistant coaches in Division I college golf, and the National Golf Coaches Association Board of Directors named Warren the 2004-05 NGCA Assistant Coach of the Year in July 2005. A native of Tuscaloosa, Ala., Warren came to LSU in 2003 after serving as an assistant coach for the Alabama women’s golf program from 1999-2002 and as an instructor for the Chuck Winstead Golf Academy at the University Club in 2003. Under his guidance, the Lady Tigers went from a program that was ranked 55th nationally when he joined the staff to one that was ranked in the top 10 in his last two seasons with the team. Prior to his stints at Alabama and LSU, Warren served two years as the assistant golf professional at Hidden Meadows Golf Club in Northport, Ala., and one year as the head golf instructor at the Golden Bear Golf Center in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. He also served as an associate golf professional at Lago Mar Country Club in Plantation, Fla., and as an instructor for the Mark Wood Golf Learning Center in Fort Lauderdale. The 40-year-old Warren graduated from the University of Alabama with a degree in sports and fitness management in 1994. He married the former Lauren Burger of New Orleans on March 10, 2007, and has two daughters – Caroline, 6, and Ellagrace, 2.

SEASON REVIEW LSU Golf Returns to NCAA Championships
For the first time since 1997, the LSU men’s golf team wrapped up a season with an appearance at the NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championships as the Tigers competed against the nation’s best programs at The Honors Course in Chattanooga, Tenn., for the right to be crowned national champions. With a 54-hole team score of 19-over par 883, the Tigers cracked the Top 25 in the final standings with a 24th-place finish, marking the team’s first Top 25 finish at the NCAA Championships in 14 seasons. For the Tigers, it was the highlight of an outstanding 200910 campaign in which they captured three tournament championships and earned fifth-place finishes in both the SEC Championships and NCAA Central Regional Championships en route to a berth into the NCAA Championships. LSU ranked second among SEC teams in the final standings at the NCAA Championships behind 11th-place Florida. Peterson Shines in Top 10 Finish at NCAA Championships
Junior All-American John Peterson wrapped up an impressive week at the 2010 NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championships with scores of 4-under 68 in a postponed second round and 2-under 70 in the final round held at The Honors Course en route to a top-10 finish on the leaderboard in LSU’s 201011 season finale. Peterson snapped a 19-year drought be becoming the first LSU Tiger to earn a top-10 finish at the NCAA Championships by firing a 5-under par 211 in 54 holes to tie for sixth place in medal play. Former Tiger standout Perry Moss was the last LSU golfer to finish in the top 10 of the final leaderboard at the national championships when he tied for fourth place in 1991. Not only that, but Peterson’s tournament score of 5-under 211 is the lowest in relation to par for a Tiger at the NCAA Championships since at least 1985.

SEASON REVIEW Loupe, Peterson Earn All-America Honors in 2010 For their outstanding performance throughout the 2009-10 season, Peterson and fellow junior Andrew Loupe were honored with All-America honors after leading the Tigers to their most successful campaign in more than a decade. Both earned honorable mention All-America honors from PING, while Loupe also added an honorable mention selection from Golfweek following the end of the NCAA Championships. Their selection marked the first time that LSU has had two golfers earn All-America honors in the same season since David Toms (first team) and Greg Lesher (second team) were named All-Americans in 1989. Tigers Earn NCAA Qualifying Spot at Central Regional With a fifth-place finish at the 2010 NCAA Central Regional Championships at The Warren Golf Course in South Bend, Ind., the Tigers earned the right to compete at the NCAA Championships for the first time since 1997. LSU fired a team-best 2-under par 278 for the weekend in the final round to grab one of five automatic qualifying spots with a 54-hole team score of 7-over par 847. The No. 5-seeded Tigers joined first-place Stanford, runner-up Florida State, third-place Florida and fourth-place Duke in qualifying for the NCAA Championships from The Warren Golf Course. Loupe set the pace for the Tigers as he fired a 2-under 208 in three rounds for a tie for sixth place on the individual leaderboard as he posted his team-leading sixth top-10 finish of the season. Tigers Take Fifth Place at SEC Championships LSU kicked off the 2010 postseason by finishing in fifth place in the team standings at the SEC Men’s Golf Championships held at the Seaside Course at Sea Island Golf Club in St. Simons Island, Ga., marking their second-straight top-five finish at the conference tournament. The Tigers finished in a tie for fourth place in 2009. With top-five finishes in 2009 and 2010, the Tigers accomplished the feat in back-toback season for the first time since 1992 and 1993. The Tigers posted a 54-hole team score of 16-over par 856 to earn a fifth-place finish, led by a 3-under 207 from Loupe. The junior from Baton Rouge solidified his All-SEC candidacy by tying for fourth place on the leaderboard for his best career finish in the event. Loupe Earns All-SEC Accolades for First Time in Career With his performance throughout his junior season, Loupe solidified his position as one of the premier players in the college game. He became the second LSU Tiger in as many seasons to receive First-Team All-SEC recognition in a vote of the league’s 12 head coaches as he joined Peterson, who earned such an honor following the 2008-09 campaign. Loupe wrapped up the season as LSU’s leading scorer while establishing a career-low 72.0 scoring average in 38 competitive rounds as he cracked the starting five in all 13 events for which LSU competed in 2009-10. Not only that, but he led the way with six top-10 finishes on the year, including five in the spring. In fact, he matched Peterson’s effort from 2009 with a pair of top-10 finishes in SEC and NCAA Regional competition. Loupe tied for fourth place at the SEC Championships before tying for sixth place individually at the NCAA Central Regional in South Bend, Ind. Tigers Build Momentum for Postseason with Win at Hootie The LSU golfers led wire-to-wire to capture its third tournament championship of the 2009-10 season at the sixth-annual Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate as it fired a 5-under par 279 in the final round to finish the event with a 54-hole score of 7-under 845 at the par-71 layout at Bulls Bay Golf Club in Awendaw, S.C. After grabbing a first-round lead with a 4-over 288, the Tigers never looked back as they fired consecutive rounds of 6-under 278 in the second round and 5-under 279 in the final round to capture the team crown by a single stroke over the Wake Forest Demon Deacons. Sophomore Sang Yi led the way for the Tigers with a career-best third-place finish with a career-low tournament score of 6-under 207. Tigers, Loupe Take Titles at Louisiana Classics After opening the final round of the 25th-annual Louisiana Classics in a three-way tie for the top spot in the team standings, the LSU men’s golf team earned a twoshot victory over the Illinois Fighting Illini on the strength of Loupe’s first career individual victory in the 54-hole event held at Oakbourne Country Club in Lafayette. The Tigers returned to Baton Rouge with their second tournament championship of the 2009-10 campaign after posting a three-round score of even-par 864. Loupe fired back-to-back scores of 5-under 67 in the second and third rounds to defeat

Illinois All-America Scott Langley by one stroke with a career-low tournament score of 8-under 208. Langley would go on to be crowned the NCAA Individual Champion at the end of the 2009-10 season. LSU Golf Inks Elite Signing Class for 2010 While the Tigers competed with one of the more talented teams in the country in 2009-10, LSU head coach Chuck Winstead solidified the future of the program by signing four prep standouts to National Letters of Intent during the fall recruiting period in November 2009. Franco Castro of Alpharetta, Ga., Smylie Kaufman of Birmingham, Ala., Landon Lyons of Baton Rouge, La., and Andrew Presley of Fort Worth, Texas, signed with the Tigers as part of the Class of 2010. Winstead inked one of the premier signing classes in the country as each member ranked among the Top 50 recruits in the country for the Class of 2010. LSU Captures Team Crown in Fall Finale at David Toms Intercollegiate A total of 14 teams battled it out for 54 holes at the inaugural David Toms Intercollegiate at The Country Club of Louisiana, but it was the homestanding LSU Tigers lifting the championship trophy after earning a thrilling one-stroke victory following the final round in their 2009 fall finale from Oct. 26-27. After teeing off in the final round with a three-shot lead over the rest of the field, the Tigers fired a 2-over par 286 for a three-round score of 8-under 844 to win by a single stroke over Kent State and North Florida. LSU won its first tournament championship of the season and their fourth all-time in events held at The Country Club of Louisiana. The inaugural David Toms Intercollegiate at The Country Club of Louisiana marked the first home event for the Tigers since playing host to the LSU Spring Invitational at the University Club in April 2005. Peterson just missed winning his second career individual title with a 54 hole score 8-under 205 en route to a runner-up finish on the leaderboard. Tigers Earn Preseason Rankings by Golfweek and Golf World The Tigers kicked off the 2009-10 season ranked among the Top 20 teams in the country as they received a pair of preseason rankings in the weeks leading up to their season opener at the PING/Golfweek Invitational. LSU was tabbed No. 12 nationally in the Golfweek Preseason Top 25 and No. 17 in the Golf World/Nike Golf Preseason Coaches’ Top 25 released prior to the start of the campaign. The Tigers were among seven SEC programs to earn a preseason national ranking as they joined the likes of Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and Tennessee in the preseason polls. Peterson Advances to Match Play at U.S. Amateur The LSU men’s golf team has become a staple in the United States Amateur Championship year in and year out, and the 2009 edition was no different as Loupe and Peterson built momentum heading into the collegiate season with their first career appearance in August 2009. Peterson enjoyed an outstanding week of competition at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Okla., as he earned a spot in the match play tournament by finishing in a tie for 45th place in two rounds of stroke play in a field of 312 of the nation’s best amateur golfers. He earned the No. 53 seed with a 36-hole score of 7-over 147 before advancing to the second round of match play. Loupe shot a two-round score of 13-over 153 in stroke play to finish in a tie for 160th place overall. LSU Golf Honored for Academic Success in 2009-10 Season The Tigers were not only standouts on the golf course during the 2009-10 season as they were also honored for their outstanding effort in the classroom. Prior to the start of the campaign in September 2009, LSU was one of 52 programs from across the country that was honored by the Golf Coaches Association of America with the organization’s All-Academic Team award for maintaining a 3.0 cumulative team grade-point average. Not only that, but the men’s golf team was one of three athletic programs at LSU to receive an NCAA Public Recognition Award in May 2010 by finishing in the top 10 percent of men’s golf programs nationally with its Academic Progress Rate (APR).
