The Lady Bengal Softball team hosts a variety or different camps that are designed to young children the game and older players the skills need to succeed at softball. Team camps also available.
The Lady Bengal Softball coaching staff can’t see every player, so the program hosts prospect camps throughout the year for prospective high school players to show the staff what they’ve got.

Chancellor, LSU Eunice
D
r. William J. Nunez III, Ph.D., has spent over 35 years in higher education. He currently serves as the Chancellor and Professor of Biology at Louisiana State University at Eunice, Eunice, LA, USA. Prior to coming to LSUE in August, 1996, Dr. Nunez served: from 1992 to 1996 as Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Professor of Biology at Indiana University, Kokomo, Indiana; from 1983 to 1992 as Dean of Liberal Arts and Sciences and Professor of Biology at Missouri Western State University, St. Joseph, Missouri; from 1973 to 1983, Dr. Nunez served as Chairperson and Professor of the Department of Biology and Health Sciences, University of Detroit, Detroit, Michigan; and, from 1970 to 1973 he served as Assistant (1970) and Associate (1973) Professor of Biology at University of Detroit. Dr. Nunez received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in 1965 and 1967 from Louisiana State University; and, his Ph.D. in 1970 from the University of North Texas, Denton, TX, in Immunology/Microbiology. Author of over 30 professional publications in the areas of Microbiology/Immunology and Academic Administration, Dr. Nunez is the past President and member of the Board of Directors of the American Association of University Administrators
(AAUA). He is also listed in American Men and Women of Science and Who’s Who in America/Midwest. He is a member of several professional academic/scientific societies, such as Sigma Xi, and is a past recipient of the National Science Foundation’s Professional Science Faculty Development Award and was a NASA-Ames/Stanford University, ASEE Senior Faculty Research Awardee and the SIFE “University President of the Year.” Dr. Nunez has also served as PI/Director for over 15 basic research grants in Immunology and Microbiology and academic program grants and awards. Dr. Nunez was the first recipient of the Mayor’s award for Volunteerism in the Arts (St. Joseph, MO) in 1992. Dr. Nunez is a past President of the Eunice Rotary Club; a “Rotarian of the Year” awardee, as well as a “Paul Harris Fellow” award recipient. He also is a past board member of: the St. Landry/Evangeline Parish United Way; the Eunice Community Health Clinic; and, the St. Landry Parish Literacy Coalition. He is a current board member of the Acadiana Regional Development District; the Enterprise Consortium of the Gulf Coast; the Eunice Chamber of Commerce; the St. Landry Parish-Opelousas Chamber of Commerce; and, the Chairperson
of the Board of Trustees of the Acadiana Medical Center. Dr. Nunez was the 2006 recipient of the Eunice “Citizen of the Year Award” as well as the “2006 Lifepoint Hospitals “Board Leadership Award.” Dr. Nunez has been married for 43 years to Adele H. Nunez, who is an educator with past service as an elementary teacher and school principal. She currently is a reading program (SRA) coach for Acadia Parish schools. Bill and Adele have two children and three grandchildren.

Athletic director jeff willis Ninth Year at LSU Eunice, 11th as Head Baseball Coach
J
eff Willis begins his ninth year as Athletic Director, and his 11th season as head coach of the Bengal Baseabll team. The Bengal AD holds a bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences from the University of Arkansas-Little Rock and a master’s degree in Health and Kinesiology from Texas A&M University at Kingsville. Willis served as the head coach (baseball) of the NJCAA National Team which finished fourth in the 25th Anniversary of the Honkbal Tournament in Haarlem, Netherlands. He also coached the NJCAA National Team in the summer of 2008,

competing against the Chinese Taipai National Team. Willis also serves as the Assistant Regional Director for the NJCAA Region XXIII and is on the Executive Committee for the NJCAA Coaches Association. In his time at LSU Eunice, Willis has seen the three Bengal programs amass a total overall record of 837-285 (.746 winning percentage) while gathering five NJCAA National Championships, a National Runner-Up finish and a fourthplace finish in the nation.

Brooke Rozas
Freshman • Outfielder • Lake Charles, Louisiana • Sam Houston High School
Prior to College: A native of Lake Charles, La., Rozas attended Sam Houston High School, where she also lettered in volleyball in addition to softball. On the field, she was named first team All-District, first team All-State and All-Southwest for the Broncos. As a junior, she was part of the 4-A State Championship softball team before winning the 5-A State Championship her senior year. One of three daughters, Rozas was an honors graduate at Sam Houston.

Julienne broussard
Freshman • RH Pitcher • Carencro, Louisiana • Teurlings Catholic High School

Prior to College: A native of Carencro, La., Broussard attended Teurlings Catholic High School, where she was a three-year letter winner in softball. She was a three-time All district, All Acadiana and All State selection, while helping the Rebels to the 4-A State Championship her senior season, where she was named the Most Outstanding Player. Broussard was also an ESPN Rise Gatorade Softball Player of the Year - Louisiana Nominee during her junior and senior seasons, and finished with 52 career high school wins with 487 strikeouts and 12 no hitters.

She was named All-District and All-State during her high school career, while her team finished as district champions her senior season. Thomas chose to come to LSU Eunice because she “really liked how small the school was and that the softball program was really good.”

Prior to College: Prior to College: A native of Kentwood, La., Clark attended Jewel Sumner High School, where she was a four-time letter winner in both softball and basketball for the Cowboys. Clark won multiple MVP honors on the hardwood in addition to being named All-District, Offensive and Defensive MVP, and an Academic All-District selection on the diamond. She batted .543 her senior season with 29 RBI as she helped her team to a District Championship. The oldest of three children, Clark won a National Championship with her travel team during high school as well.

Off the field, she was also involved as a Miracle League volunteer and as an athletic trainer, while also a part of the Allied Health Program. She gathered second team All-District honors and the Senior Award on the field, also helping her team to the quarterfinals of the state tournament her junior season. The oldest of three children, Alexis chose to come to LSU Eunice because “it is a beautiful, home-like campus where I know I can improve not only as an athlete at LSU Eunice, but a student so I can continue my passion for the game of softball at the next level.”

Prior to College: A native of Mansfield, La., Delafield attended Logansport High School where she was an Academic All State, Academic All District, Wendy’s High School Heisman State Finalist, and a US Army Reserve National Scholar/ Athlete Award winner. An All-District Pitcher, All-District MVP, Honorable Mention All-State, All-Area Pitcher, Delafield finished with 490 strikeouts combined over her junior and senior seasons. Her father, Glenn, played baseball at Northwestern State University and played in the New York Yankees farm system. The oldest of four children, Delafield chose to come to LSU Eunice because of its “great location and its nationally respected softball program.”

Prior to College: A native of Port Allen, La., Guillot attended Parkview Baptist High School, where she was also involved with Beta Club, Key Club, Art Club, Spanish Club and FCA when not on the field for the Eagles. Named first team All-District, District MVP, first team All-Metro, All-Metro MVP, first team All-State and LSCA first team All-State, Guillot recorded 44 wins and 571 strikeouts her final two seasons, helping her senior squad to a 3A State Runner Up finish. At Parkview, Guillot played under former LSU player and assistant coach Ashlee Ducote. The younger of two daughters, Guillot chose to come to LSU Eunice because “it is close to home and a good program, it seemed to be the best fit for me.”

Fifth Year at LSU Eunice (198-48)
A
ndy Lee enters his fifth season as the Head Softball Coach at Louisiana State University Eunice, and has led the Lady Bengals to a National Junior College Athletic Association National Championship in 2010, and a NJCAA National Runner- Up finish in 2011. In four seasons at LSU Eunice, he has compiled a 198-48 record (.804 winning percentage) and has held the #1 ranking the past three seasons in every regular season poll. During his four year tenure as the Lady Bengal coach, he has lead his team to four Regional Tournaments, three National Tournaments, a National Championship and National Runner-Up finish. Andy has received two Region 23 Coach of the Year awards and one National Coach of Year Award. The 2012 season saw the Bengal team capture their second-straight Regional Championship and a National Runner-Up Finish. The Lady Bengals finished with a 53-11 record, marking the second-consec-
utive time the Bengal program has captured at least a 50 win season. The Lady Bengals also captured 2012 Academic Team of the year Award with a 3.15 team GPA During the past four years, Lee has seen 12 of his players move on to four year universities. During the same period he has coached eight All-Region players and five All-Americans. Lee played four years
as a left-handed pitcher and outfielder at Hinds Community College and Delta State University. In 1999, Lee signed a professional baseball contract with the Boston Red Sox and pitched two seasons in their organization. The Bengal coach holds a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education from Delta State University and a master’s degree in Education from Jackson State University. He attended Woodland Hills Baptist Academy in Jackson, MS where he was an All-State Basketball, Football and Baseball Player. Andy resides in Eunice with his wife, Leslie, and two kids, Logan (10) and Alayna (6).

ani Leal enters her first season as Assistant Softball Coach at Louisiana State University Eunice, joining the program after an outstanding collegiate career. Her duties as an assistant coach will range from administrative work to recruiting in addition to coaching. She comes to LSU Eunice after graduating with her degree in General Studies from Baylor University in May 2012. Leal spent the 2012 season as a Student-Assistant Coach on the Baylor staff after a distinguished two-year playing career as a Lady Bear from 2010-2011. At Baylor, Leal was the starting shortstop for two seasons and left ranked sixth on BU’s all-time home run list. In her first season in Waco, as a junior, Leal was Baylor’s starting shortstop and finished the season as the team leader

with nine home runs before having her season cut short with a fractured forearm. She finished her senior season leading Baylor in both RBIs (with 45), in batting average (.345) and again in home runs (with 14). In addition, she was honored and named a first-team All-Big XII selection, a first-team All-Region player and a third-team All-American. As a team, Leal’s senior year was Baylor softball’s best season in program history,
winning the regionals in Maryland, before capturing the Super Regional to send themselves to the NCAA World Series in Oklahoma City where they finished tied for third in the nation with Alabama. Prior to Baylor, Leal played two years at Pratt (Kan.) Community College where she was an all-conference selection. Born and raised in Mexico City, Mexico, Leal was a two-year member of the Mexican National team from 2005 to 2006.

pon entering the 2011 NJCAA Division II Softball Championship Tournament, top-seeded LSU Eunice wanted to prove to the nation they were without question the best team in 2011. Mission accomplished. The Lady Bengals, in just their second ever appearance at the national tournament, won the 2011 Division II national championship with an impressive 10-0 win over Owens Community College (Ohio) in the title game at Champion Fields in Normal, Ill. Owens entered the tournament as the No. 4 seed. The national title is the first for LSU Eunice in a women’s sport. Even more impressive is the fact that the Lady Bengal softball program is still in its infancy, having been launched in 2005. In a rematch with Owens (44-5), who the Lady Bengals defeated 6-0 in the third round of the tournament, LSU Eunice (55-10) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning off a Haley McCall double and then added runs in the second and third innings before tacking on three insurance runs in the sixth inning.

Tina Schultz pitched a shutout and McCall was 3-for-4 for the Lady Bengals. Schultz was named the Most Outstanding Pitcher of the tourney going 4-0 in the circle with a 1.48 ERA. McCall earned Most Valuable Player honors via a .667 batting average, which was tied for the tournament’s top mark and new record.
She also had eight RBI’s and a .944 slugging percentage. McCall also set a new tournament record with 10 runs scored, which led to LSU Eunice setting a new team mark of 49 runs scored in the tournament.
2012 national runners-up

t came down to the top two seeds in the NJCAA Division II softball World Series on May 19, 2012 in the championship finals. No. 1 LSUE, who won the first four games of the tournament including a 3-2 win over No.2 Phoenix College on Friday, needed to win just one game to capture their second national title in a row. Instead, the Lady Bears won 5-1, 2-1 to win
their ninth championship. Kesley Hollier was the tournament Defensive MVP, while Tina Schulz, Jaci Trahan and Brooke Thomas were named to the all-tournament team. In the first game, Phoenix jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning of the opener when Cheyenne Adams and Krystal Garcia hit back-to-
back triples both scored before the Lady Bengal defense stiffened to end the surge. LSUE threatened in the top of the second when Ashley Taylor and Logan Fuselier both walked but Taylor was tagged out at home attempting to score to end the inning. The Lady Bengals threatened again in the top of the fifth when Thomas, Ort and Tina Schulz all singled to load the bases but none advanced as the Phoenix defense stiffened. Pam Wainwright was hit by a pitch with two outs in the top of the sixth and she was the last Lady Bengal to reach base in the first of the two finals. The second game saw Phoenix jump out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the second when Rachel Meyer singled and Desirea Gil blasted a home run. LSUE closed the gap to 2-1 in the top of the third when Jaci Trahan singled and later stole home when Brooke Thomas reached and stole second. After the Lady Bengals pulled within one run, LSUE did not get another hitter to reach base as they went down in order the rest of the game.

Lady Bengal Stadium has been the home of the LSU Eunice softball team since its inaugural season in 2006. The field measures 320 feet along the left and right foul lines and 385 feet at center field. It is planted with Celebration Bermuda grass and over seeded with Rye grass. The field includes two concrete block dugouts, aluminum stands behind home plate, and a bullpen down the left field line. Both teams also have batting cages for use at the field. A press box for scorekeepers and the media was built for the 2013 season. Underneath the press box is a concession stand. Off the field, the team has a state-of-the-art field house located across from Lady Bengal Stadium that they share with the Bengal Baseball team. In addition to the stadium and field house, Bengal athletes have access to a weight room and Olympic sized swimming pool in the Health and Physical Education Building behind Bengal Stadium. The HPRE Building is home to Bengal Athletic administration offices. The spacious locker room located inside the field house adjacent to Lady Bengal Stadium includes lockers for each player with ample space for team meetings. The locker room also includes couches and chairs for players to relax on while watching one of the flat screen televisions.
