Reconciling the Abrahamic Family

Reconciling the

Abrahamic Family

The Abrahamic family, as described in sacred texts, is perhaps the most influential and conflicted family in the history of humanity.

This course attempts to ‘textually reconcile’ some of these deep family conflicts through the integration of text study of the various interpretations of these stories, together with the application of reconciliation theories. We will explore the possible ramifications of this reconciliation for our own family conflicts as well as for conflicts around the world today. Sample course units: • The competing victim narratives of Ishmael and Isaac • The competing chosenness narratives of Jacob and Esau • The intractable identity conflict of the Israelites and the Amalekites
