It’s a new Service Year! Hey, Division 1!

A Message from Your LTG

The 65th Annual New Jersey District Convention just passed us which marked the end of the 2010-2011 service year, but it also marked the beginning of the 2011-2012 service year! Although it’s not a new school year, a new service year still means starting over with fresh ideas, high energy levels, and active participation! I’m truly excited and honored to be your Division 1 Lieutenant Governor for the 20112012 service year. I joined Key Club my freshman year not knowing what to expect, and meeting so many inspiring and friendly service leaders was definitely not one of my expectations! But of course, it happened. I am so blessed to be a part of this organization and a part of this division. Key Club has given me so much and I am eager to work with all of you to give back to our homes, schools, and communities. I hope to achieve great things this year and to strengthen our mighty Division 1. If you ever have any questions at all, please never hesitate to ask! I will always be here to answer any questions that you may have through emails, phone calls, and Facebook. I am looking forward to working with all of you so we can grow together as leaders while bettering our division, our district, and our world. Always keep in mind our Key Club motto, “Caring—Our way of life”. Yours in Caring and Service, Cecilia Kang

Congratulations, Andre Rosario! Immediate Past Lieutenant Governor of Division 1, Andre Rosario, was elected the Editor of the New Jersey District of Key Club International for the 2011-2012 service year! Andre is currently a junior from the Egg Harbor Township Key Club. Anyone who has worked with Andre before would agree that he is hardworking, friendly, and dedicated! We all wish him the best of luck this service year as he excels at his job on the executive board! Congratulations, Andre!

WHAT IF YOU COULD SAVE a life? Or better yet, what if you could save a million lives? For the 2011-2012 service year, the district board has decided to not only continue to help CSH as our district project, but to also adopt a new focus: the Eliminate Project. The project revolves around the goal of eliminating maternal and neonatal tetanus (MNT) from the face of the Earth. Tetanus is a disease caused by unsafe birthing practices. Bacteria enters the bodies of mothers and babies through open cuts and wounds. This deadly disease kills a baby or a mother every nine minutes, and the effects of

MNT are painful and excruciating. Newborns suffer through extremely painful convulsions and severe sensitivity to light and touch. However, the lives of babies and their mothers can be saved with just three doses of a 60-cent vaccine. Kiwanis and UNICEF are working together to bring those vaccines to thirtynine countries around the world. The Eliminate Project will be the fundraising focus this year, but before we fundraise, we must educate our clubs and communities. If we work together, we can ELIMINATE MNT from the face of the Earth. So what are we waiting for? Let’s go!

Confused Key Clubbers after being hypnotized! CHILDREN’S SPECIALIZED Hospital (CSH) is the nation’s largest pediatric rehabilitation center. It has also been the district project of the NJ District of Key Club International for the past five years. Even though the ELIMINATE project is the fundraising focus for this service year, CSH will still be the service focus for

the year’s district project. CSH hopes that one day, each child will have an opportunity to reach his or her full potential. With the devotion of each and every Key Club member, this goal can be made possible. Let’s make it possible. Volunteer. Lead. Grow. Be a part of it all—CSH.
