Division 2

THEE START!! Meet the Lieutenant Governor. Hi there Division 2! My name is Alexis Warren and I am your Lieutenant Governor for the 2015-2016 service year. My home club is the Lindenhurst High School Key Club. I would like to begin by conveying that you can come to me for anything; whether it is personal or “business”. I am more than open to new ideas and will yield any questions or concerns.

So now you ask what is the Lieutenant Governor anyway? I am the liaison for the New York District Key Club. Basically I transfer information from the clubs to the district and from the district to the clubs. With that being said, communication is heavily involved in my job. Hence, it is imperative that you try your best to answer calls/e-mails, attend divisionals, and voice your opinion.

Let’s work together as a division and make this service year the best one yet! In the words of Steve Jobs, “Those who are crazy enough to change the world are the ones who do.” Yours in service, Lt. Governor Alexis Warren (717)856-5417 alexiswarren.ltg@nydkc.org

Leadership Training Conference 2015 The 67th Annual Leadership Training Conference held at the Desmond Hotel was an enormous success. It was my first LTC and I had a blast. Some of my favorite moments include Playfair, playing Cards Against Humanity during free time with a new group of Key Clubbers every night, and making a Boo- Boo Bunny during the final workshop.

700 Key Clubbers from all over New York were in attendance. It turns out that this is the highest record of attendance in the past 10 years. This past service year, we raised over $100,000 for district projects and local causes combined, as well as committing over 80,000 hours of service. “We have surpassed our goals that we set and the 2014-2015 district board could not be any more thankful for all the Key Clubbers who worked to together to make it all happen.”

The 68th Annual Leadership Training Conference will be held at the Desmond Hotel from March 18-20, 2016. My goal is to get at least 5-10 Key Clubbers from every club to attend. It is never too early to start preparing especially by fundraising.

The Eliminate Project With The Eliminate Project, Kiwanis International and UNICEF have joined forces to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus. This deadly disease steals the lives of nearly 49,000 innocent babies and a significant number of women each year. The effects of the disease are excruciating — tiny newborns suffer repeated, painful convulsions and extreme sensitivity to light and touch.

Thirst Project T-Shirts This district fundraiser is the perfect way to end the 20142015 service year. The goal is to sell 1,850 shirts throughout the district to raise the goal. That means that if every club in the district sold just 8 shirts, we’d reach the goal! Just think how amazing it would be if we could raise the $12,000 that it costs to build a well in Swaziland! The shirts are only $10.00 each! The logo of sponsors will appear on the back of the shirt. If you would like to order a T-shirt, please fill out the form below: Place orders until April 27th! https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1mMVRTEKXbecadLvh0ex57TnQErnY_Xx7dwnHWw1NfA/viewform?usp=send_form

Trey Butler Fundraiser In the Spring of 2014, current Victor High School senior Trey Butler, began to notice an uncharacteristic limp in his walk. His primary care doctor was unable to determine what was wrong so Trey was sent to an orthopedist. After watching Trey walk, he suggested seeing a neurologist. Eventually, following further consultation and tests a team of doctors diagnosed Trey with MLD. Trey and his Family were then sent to Duke University

Hospital, one of only three medical centers in the United States that specializes in MLD, for testing. Trey’s late onset and early diagnosis qualified him as a strong candidate for a bone marrow transplant to slow the progression of the disease. Early in December of 2014, Trey will begin treatment at Duke University Hospital. There, Trey and his family will live for 6-9 months. Team Trey, a group of Trey’s friends, classmates, and neighbors, is holding

fundraising and awareness campaigns in support of Trey and MLD. Trey is currently a Key Clubber at the Victor High School Key Club, so let’s work together to support a member of the New York District Key Club family! Donations can be made payable to: John D. Major Emphasis In 1946, Key Club International challenged all Key Clubs and members to focus energies on making an international impact. This program still is followed today through the Major Emphasis: “Children: Their Future, Our Focus.” Dive in to find information on popular service projects, as well as resources, support materials and how-to guides to help pull them off. Download our service project directory, filled with ideas for hands-on and fundraising service opportunities. Projects are divided into levels of difficulty, easy, moderate, and difficult, to help you get started with whatever type of project you are interested in tackling. Don't shy away from harder projects, as the planning and execution effort intensifies, so do the rewards!

Youth Opportunities Fund The Youth Opportunities Fund (YOF) is an endowed fund for Key Club International held within the Kiwanis International Foundation. This fund uses earned interest to help Key Clubs and Key Club members serve the world by providing grants for service opportunities. The fund also provides academic scholarships for higher education. The Youth Opportunities Fund is established through a portion of your Key Club International dues and through the purchase of G. Harold Martin Fellowships. YOF grants can help you take action. Look around and identify the things that need to get done in your school, community or world.

“Have a little fun.”

Election Report Form This is the link to the form we will be using this service year. It is different from the ERF that is currently on the website, but hopefully this form will go on the website very soon. https://docs.google.co m/forms/d/1TZOEynn 1hnB8py6-4Mrsh6K0sHQq3BqWZcWXgpF0w/viewf orm?usp=send_form This form is a bit more flexible in that it gives you guys the option to record information about additional board members.

This is beneficial for clubs that have more than one person occupying the same position-for example, two secretaries. Election Report Forms are officially due on September 27th, 2015. HOWEVER, if you have already had your elections, or are having them around this time of the year, please try your best to submit the ERF as soon as possible (preferably before the end of April).
