ICON International Convention is coming upon us fast! This year as you may know it is in Indianapolis. International Convention is a bigger LTC (Leadership Training Conference). We will elect the 20152016 international board, train for our positions, and do many more awesome things. I am excited to meet other Key Clubbers from around the country that have the same passion for Key Club as I do. It will also be interesting to see their point of view on different things. I may even gather some new ideas. Another aspect that I am excited for is that we will be celebrating 100 years of Kiwanis! There will be a birthday bash on a street that is shut down so we can celebrate. I am also excited to see HelloGoodbye! There will be so many once in a lifetime opportunities that present themselves and I couldn’t be more ecstatic to grow from them.

Although the deadline has passed for this year, there is always next year! International Convention will be in Atlanta, Georgia for the 2016 year.

May Divisional Review The May Divisional was a success! Thank you to all who came. We collected over 20 items for Long Island Hope. We talked about many important events and dates. We went over International Convention, Leadership Training Conference, report forms, division social media and apparel, and Fall Rally. Don’t forget that there is an ongoing collection of Box Tops for Education and Soda Tabs. Keep your eyes open for a June Service Project/ Divisional. Follow us @nydkcd2 on Twitter and Instagram. One thing that I would like to improve on is attendance. Next time let’s have a goal that every club brings 15 members.

LTC by

The theme of LTC for the 2016 year is Red Carpet: Stars of Service.

Save the Date LTC is being held at the Desmond Hotel in Albany, NY on March 18- 20, 2016. Start fundraising now. My goal is to have every club bring at least 1o members.

President of William Floyd Key Club

If I can describe LTC in one word I would say it’s inspiring. I’ve only attended the district convention two times as a key clubber and every time I leave I feel like I can make an impact on my community. Even before the weekend ends, I write down ideas for events or service projects. Furthermore, I take everything I learn from LTC, and try to use it to improve my club. I would have never learned about the Thirst Project if it wasn’t for LTC. Picking a district charity is one thing, but learning about it is another. And I can honestly say while Evan from the Thirst Project was talking to us about his organization, I was writing out ways to fundraise for his charity. Crazy, I know. But that’s what LTC does to you, it makes you ready to be even better key clubbers. Without LTC, I would not have been ready to take charge of my club. Additionally, it’s because of LTC that I never regretted joining Key Club or becoming president. Even though some of my friends call this a cult, I immediately fire back and say that it’s a group of awesome people who care about their community. It’s imperative that every club sends up as many people as they can, because up in Albany you find your inner key clubber, you find yourself, and you find life long memories that you will never forget. Finally, to tell you all how LTC has impacted my life I want to tell you my future plans. Next summer, I plan to travel to Guatemala to help out poor citizens with the Yuda Bands organization. Later on in my life, I plan to join Circle K in college and hold leadership positions there. After that I plan to join Kiwanis or even be an advisor of a key club (once I retire from being an auditor in a public accounting firm). These are my plans because LTC inspired me to be more than just a key club member. It inspired me to make a difference in the world. Yours in service, Patrick James Moloney

Division 2 Summer is upon us. That means longer days, warmer weather and the opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors. Why not enjoy the season with friends, family and your community while supporting The Eliminate Project? Try one of these summer fundraising ideas: Field day: The first step is choosing a location, like a nearby school. Then select your fun, outdoor events. Popular activities include a water-balloon toss, slip ‘n slide races and tug-of-war. You can collect an entry fee for the entire day or by event. Make time for a brief presentation on The Eliminate Project. Movie in the park: Decide on a film, time, date and place. Before the film starts, make a presentation on The Eliminate Project and announce the fundraising total for the evening. Keep in mind that it needs to be dark if you plan to show the film outside. If you don’t have a projector and screen, take the movie indoors. As a bonus, sell candy and popcorn to movie-goers. Bike-a-thon: Get fit, get moving and get fundraising! A bike-a-thon is perfect for all ages. You can charge registrants a small entrance fee then ask them to collect sponsorships for miles or laps biked. A swim-a-thon is another option. Pie eating contest: For some good, old-fashioned fun, host a pie-eating contest. The contestants raise money based on how many pies they can eat or how fast they can eat them. You can download additional fundraising ideas and resources like brochures, banner artwork, and more at www.TheEliminateProject.org/resources.

Let’s give a shout out to the William Floyd Key Club for raising over $400 at their Friendly’s Fundraiser during Eliminate Week! (May 4th-8th)

Youth Opportunities Fund Apply for a YOF grant The basics you need to know:

 

  

YOF grants are given only to Key Clubs and/or club members. There is only one funding cycle for the Youth Opportunities Fund. The application must be received by October 15 at 11:59PM EST. Clubs may request funding assistance ranging anywhere from US$100 to US$2,000. The committee typically funds those clubs who are asking for a portion of the total cost of the project, and clubs who are working with other organizations to fund and complete the project. Notification of the Key Club International Board’s decision will be mailed no later than January 1, 2015. Applicants must use the new YOF grant application. Previous years' applications will not be accepted. Guidelines for filing the application are also listed in the Key Club Guidebook under Board Policies. Need project ideas? See what kinds of projects Key Clubs have won grants for in the past.

Applications can also be faxed to: 1-317-8790204 or emailed to yof@kiwanis.org.

Circle-K For those seniors graduating, we are sad to see you go. Congratulations and good luck on the next chapter of your life! You will do great things. You can continue in the K- Family by joining Circle-K. CKI began in 1936 as a Kiwanis club service project to provide an opportunity for capable, ambitious, and worthy young men to acquire a college education by assisting them, where necessary, with their financial problems, by means of a scholarship fund, if available, or securing part-time employment. Soon after the concept of CKI was recognized and accepted, the element of community service was introduced, thus creating an appealing outlet for collegians around the globe. Today, as the largest collegiate service organization, CKI boasts a membership of more than 11,000 collegians on more than 500 campuses worldwide. CKI is a student -led organization with an International Board of Representatives elected by its membership each year. Embodied by its tenets of leadership, fellowship, and service at the club, district, and International levels, CKI continues to grow through service to the world’s campuses and communities.

Pro -Gardeners On Wednesday, May 20th, the William Floyd High School Key Club worked together with the Tangier Elementary School Garden Club to help charm up the bird garden and entrance ways of the primary school. The Key Clubbers present at the event helped second and third graders to create new colorful bird feeders as well as place mulch onto the newly weeded flowerbeds. As it was the last meeting for the Garden Club, the fun atmosphere was the perfect way for the young students to say goodbye while positively impacting their community as the school year comes to a close.

On Thursday, May 21st, the Lindenhurst High School Key Club cleaned up their school’s native garden. The garden is in a courtyard available to students where they can enjoy their lunch. The Key Clubbers worked from directly after- school until about 5. The courtyard looks fantastic!

REPORT FORMS Election Report Forms

Fundraising Report Form

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1TZO Eynn1hnB8py6-4Mrsh-6K0sHQq3BqWZcWXgpF0w/viewform?usp=send_f orm

The FRF has been simplified to make the process of documenting a fundraiser easier and will hopefully increase submissions. A form of proof is no longer required. Instead, your advisor and I will receive a confirmation.

This form is a bit more flexible in that it gives you guys the option to record information about additional board members. This is beneficial for clubs that have more than one person occupying the same position-for example, two secretaries. Election Report Forms are officially due on September 27th, 2015. HOWEVER, if you have already had your elections, or are having them around this time of the year, please try your best to submit the ERF as soon as possible (preferably before the end of April).

Report Form Submission is below. The pink is election report forms. The dark orange is monthly report forms for the month of April. The light orange is monthly report forms for the month of May. Good job to Copiague, William Floyd, and Lindenhurst. Keep up the good work!

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1fe BKcokS3UtbcdNvkJv9hrfWbDEJQvk gJwI1eMb_mZ8/edit The fundraising goal for the 20152016 service year is 100,000.

Monthly Report Forms and Lieutenant Governor Evaluation Forms are due the 7th of every month.

Going Deeper I got started in the K- Family as a K-Kid in fourth grade. I was elected as president and I would like to think that is what started it all. I then moved onto the middle school and became a Builder Clubber. Next, high school came and I naturally joined Key Club. I had the wonderful opportunity to run for Key Club president and was elected. Through this whole journey, I learned something different each time. As Lieutenant Governor I am excited to grow and learn even more. For the 2015- 2016 service year, I chose to have a Lieutenant Governor’s Project. The project is Feeding America. I chose this organization because often times we take food for granted. Did you know 1 in 5 kids are hungry right here in our own country? It’s unbelievable, right? Join me in making a true difference right here in our community with Feeding America! Some goals I have for the 2015- 2016 service year are to increase attendance at LTC, have more clubs apply for awards, and have greater interclub connection. We will have a division wide fundraiser to raise money for LTC, but in the meantime start fundraising on your own now! You can also look at the 2014- 2015 awards booklet on nydkc.org to get a sense of what awards you may want to apply for in the future Yours in service, Alexis Warren ---Alexiswarren.ltg@nydkc.org ---(717)-856-5417
