WINTER 2016
Sukjeongmun Sukjeongmun is one of the Four Great Gates of the Fortress Wall of old Seoul. Built in 1395 and originally called Sukcheongmun, it is located on the east side of Bugaksan Mountain. The gate was sealed off in 1413 after the feng shui scholar Choi Yangseon advised the King that the gate was damaging the mountain's Qi. Being located in a desolate rugged area, Sukjeongmun never actually functioned as a fortress gate and always remained closed, so the gate located to its left, Changuimun, was often referred to as the North Gate instead. It is not exactly known when the gate’s name was changed to Sukjeongmun.
