A Home with

Fit for

Carberry Tower sits majestically in 35 acres of manicured lawns and landscaped grounds, an oasis of calm and tranquillity that provides the perfect escape from the hurly burly of modern life – yet, amazingly enough, it’s only seven miles from the buzzing heart of Edinburgh with its vibrant bars, restaurants, shop and cultural attractions. Over 450 years old, it has seen its fair share of history – Mary Queen of Scots surrendered to her rebellious nobles directly in front of the tower in June 1567 while Jacobite troops fought the English at the nearby battle of Prestonpans in 1745. More recently it was home to Lady Elphinstone, sister of the late Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother. Queen Elizabeth II and her sister Princess Margaret stayed here on several occasions when their father, King George VI, visited Holyrood Palace. Recently refurbished, this traditional Scottish castle hotel now provides the perfect setting for a wide variety of celebrations and events, conferences and weddings. It also makes a convenient and comfortable base for short breaks, longer holidays or the annual Edinburgh Festival.

A

royal welcome

awaits you just outside Scotland’s capital

As you’d expect of a grand baronial castle that has been gradually extended and remodelled by successive generations of the Scottish aristocracy, Carberry Tower has the feel of a supremely comfortable country house that’s more than capable of rising to the big occasion. Much of the original character has been retained – little has changed since the days of the Elphinstone family, with ornate carvings, impressive staircases, period fireplaces, wood panelling, stained glass windows and quirky architectural features at every turn. There’s also a Ceilidh Hall, Whisky Bar, snooker room, private chapel and four conference rooms, making it an ideal venue for all kinds of events from grand weddings to corporate entertainment, and family celebrations to business meetings. The setting is also gorgeous, with 35 acres of stunning gardens, private parklands and shady woods to explore and relax in. The beach at Musselburgh is just 10 minutes away by car if you fancy a walk by the sea while Edinburgh’s exciting city centre is only 7 miles to the north west.

A

feast

for the heartiest appetite

At Carberry Tower the splendour of the surroundings is matched by the excellence of the cuisine – we appreciate that food and drink is a big part of the experience. Our talented head chef and team create seasonal menus that make imaginative use of the finest locally sourced ingredients to give guests a true taste of Scotland. We only use the finest Scotch beef, hung for a full 28 days. The lamb and pork both come from farms in Ayrshire. Fresh fish, including trout, comes from Dunbar, while we buy our shellfish, crab and lobster from North Berwick. During the season venison and game is provided by the Carberry Tower Estate. We also prepare as much as we can in our own kitchens – from freshly baked breads to after-dinner petit-fours and rich sauces. Another treat you won’t want to miss is traditional afternoon tea, with our resident Tea Sommelier. Everything is baked and prepared in our own kitchens including some of Scotland’s finest tea cakes, finger sandwiches, pastries and scones, with dollops of delicious home-made preserves and lashings of local Lothian clotted cream.
