A grand seaside
with a
of France
Plas Rhianfa, on the Isle of Anglesey, sits in a commanding position on the shores of the Menai Strait with panoramic views across the water towards the Welsh mainland and the towering peaks of Snowdonia. It was built in 1849 for Sir John Hay Williams, a descendent of Sir William Williams who created the much larger Bodelwyddan Castle in Denbighshire. Together with his wife, Lady Sarah Hay Williams, he spent 10 years creating a magnificently lavish mansion surrounded by enchanting gardens. The house, four acres of grounds and the private quayside have been extensively refurbished to restore this romantic home and estate to its former glory. Recalling an earlier age when the British Empire was at its giddiest heights and the gentry lived a life of privileged ease, Plas Rhianfa now provides a wonderful setting for entertaining on a grand scale and events that are truly out of the ordinary.
A
romantic masterpiece straight out of your
dreams
Modelled on the Renaissance chateau of Chenonceau – Plas Rhianfa, with its circular turrets, balconies, mullioned, sash and Gothic bay windows, is a charming reincarnation of its big sister in the Loire Valley, France. The interior is still much as it would have been in its Victorian heyday with a wonderful wood-panelled sitting room, elegant dining room, drawing room and music room, with glorious coffered painted ceilings, solid oak floors, huge antique doors, stained glass windows and carved stone fire places. The recent refurbishment has created four different bars, including a vaulted wine bar and tasting room. There’s also a sauna, hot tub and adjacent gymnasium, games room, games bar, sun lounge and reading room. Guests can relax in the splendid gardens amidst a beautiful profusion of mature trees and a series of terraced lawns lead down to the private jetty and beach allowing you to make a grand entrance or departure by boat or helicopter.

A great night’s
sleep
after a hard day of
enjoying
yourself
The upper floors of the chateau have been sympathetically refurbished to create 16 supremely comfortable bedrooms with all the modern comforts you could wish for, including three spacious Principal Suites with spectacular views of Snowdonia and Conwy. Each bedroom has its own slate-finished en-suite bathroom, some with ‘his and her’ sinks and roll top baths and every room enjoys its own distinct character, ranging from high Victorian to unashamedly contemporary – a four poster bed in one, a circular bed in another. The main house sleeps 32 but luxurious self-catering accommodation is also provided in the Coach House, which sleeps six, and Gate House which accommodates another four guests.
