Splendour Heavenly

Gothic

Majestic Cloisters and a

Setting

Stanbrook Abbey is comfortably nestled beneath the gorgeous green ridge of the Malvern Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty that has inspired generations of writers, artists and musicians including Elgar, Tolkein, Auden and the medieval poet William Langland. It was originally designed in the Gothic Revival style for a community of Benedictine nuns in the mid-1800s by Edward Welby Pugin, whose father created the sumptuous Gothic wallpapers, carvings, stained glass, floor tiles, metalwork and furnishings that grace the Houses of Parliament. The exterior, of red brick with stone dressing, and Gothic windows topped with a slate roof, is not only architecturally striking but remarkably robust – the Victorians built it to last! The interior, however, has been refurbished to create a stunningly inspirational and historic venue for majestic weddings and impressive corporate events.

A

celestial setting for the

big occasion

What was once dedicated to prayer and contemplation, has been sensitively converted to provide an inspiring setting for serenely beautiful weddings, sensational private parties and successful business functions of all kinds. All the original character has been lovingly preserved but the facilities now include 50 luxuriously appointed bedroom suites in the main Abbey building (2013), a Brides Manor with five additional bedrooms for the happy couple and close family, its own magnificent chapel, as well as a variety of large function rooms including The Piano Bar, The Boardroom, Thompson Hall, The Clarence Room and The Bistro. The 22 acres of extensive gardens and grounds, with their lake, orchard, lawns and mature trees, provide a majestic setting for romantic photographs and relaxing breakout sessions. A pool, spa, tennis courts, outdoor dining facilities and additional reception rooms are also soon to be added.

A more

restful

night is hard to

imagine

The surroundings at Stanbrook Abbey were designed for thoughtful contemplation and divine meditation so it’s the perfect environment in which to escape from the everyday pressures of life and cast off the cares of the world. Whether you are organising your dream wedding or an important corporate function the abbey can comfortably accommodate up to 100 overnight guests. The former nun’s cells have been turned into luxurious bedroom suites, each with its own modern ensuite bathroom. The standard rooms face into the peaceful courtyard garden with views of the Malvern Hills beyond. The superior rooms are slightly more spacious and look out over the rolling countryside towards the east. There are also several luxurious suites as well as junior suites with gorgeous stained glass windows and ancient beams. We’ve also converted the Georgian house in the grounds to create our own Brides Manor. This offers five luxurious bedroom suites, each with its own private bathroom. One of these is the stunning Bridal Suite with private dressing room and the house also has a private lounge.

Indulge your taste for divine dining experiences You’ll be delighted to learn that the sin of gluttony is no longer frowned upon at Stanbrook Abbey and that you are now positively encouraged to take pleasure in the vices of eating and drinking! The Bistro, a beautiful restaurant whose art deco floor is bathed in light from the cloisters, offers a stunning contemporary dining space for breakfasts, lunches and evening meals. The Clarence Room offers additional dining space off the Bistro and is perfect for private dinners, meetings and small receptions. The Piano Bar is a gorgeously traditional reception room in opulent blacks and rich reds that’s ideally suited for cocktails and drinks, meeting and greeting, wedding receptions and civil ceremonies, speeches and informal gatherings. From The Piano Bar guests can move into the Thompson Hall, a light and airy room perfect for banquets, wedding breakfasts and more formal dinners and dances. It can comfortably accommodate 80 guests for dinner and 120 for a reception, with plans to more than double the size in the near future.

The

pleasurable

possibilities are

endless

Stanbrook Abbey is comfortably positioned amidst open fields between the Malvern Hills and the Cotswolds in some of the most beautifully unspoilt countryside in all England. It’s also surrounded by some wonderful attractions so there’s lots to see and do. Our team will be delighted to organise whatever activities you’d like including walking and cycling in the rolling green countryside, plus golf and horse riding. The area is also immensely rich in history and heritage. Worcester Cathedral is regarded by many as the country’s most remarkable, while many visitors flock to the home of the famous composer Elgar, which is now a museum. Snowshill Manor, home to inveterate collector Charles Wade, is packed to the rafters with about 22,000 unusual objects, from tiny toys to splendid suits of Samurai armour. Other nearby attractions include magnificent Hanbury Hall, the fascinating Tudor House in Worcester and the Palladian masterpiece of Croome Park.

Robert Thompson’s world famous signature mouse can be found in his carvings here at Stanbrook Abbey.
