Up close with nature. In a charming way, this museum offers exciting insights into the natural history as well as into the abundant wildlife population and vegetation of the region. The fossilised whale skeletons from the primordial North Sea are breathtaking and unique in Europe. The replica of a paleontological excavation site, where real fossils can be ‘grasped’ at, is not only popular with youngsters. In the nature experience exhibition ‘Im Reich des Wassermanns (Mermans’ Realm)’ habitat dioramas and interactive media stations display the biosphere and inhabitants of the local rivers and the Bay of Lübeck. Living pond turtles, grass snakes, fish and a colony of bees will make your heart miss a beat. Natur zum Anfassen. Auf charmante Weise werden hier die Naturgeschichte sowie die artenreiche Tier- und Pflanzenwelt der Region nähergebracht. Atemberaubend sind die aus der Urnordsee stammenden versteinerten Walskelette, die europaweit einzigartig sind. Der Nachbau einer paläontologischen Ausgrabungsstelle, welche echte Fossilien zum „Anfassen“ birgt, ist nicht nur bei jungen Gästen beliebt. Die Naturerlebnis-Ausstellung „Im Reich des Wassermanns“ präsentiert an interaktiven Medienstationen die Bewohner der heimischen Flüsse und der Lübecker Bucht. Lebende Wasserschildkröten, Ringelnattern, Fische und ein Bienenvolk lassen das Herz höher schlagen.
