Danny Soliz, Director of Business Development for Workforce Solutions South Plains, was this year’s Chairman and had the following comments: “What a great networking business to business opportunity was exemplified at the 20th Annual Lubbock Chamber of Commerce Business Expo. Where can you network with over 200 businesses under the same roof? As a business you could learn about budgeting from the financial institutions that attended. Small business owners had an opportunity to connect and collaborate with other businesses. They were able to promote and demonstrate their new products and services. They were able to generate new accounts with other businesses they may never have come in contact with. This, plus more, is what the 20th Annual Business Expo brought to its members who attended. What a way to ‘scale to new heights’!”

Lubbock Business Network “I appreciate the opportunity to attend this year’s business expo as a guest of our Valpak of Lubbock franchisee, Mike Lambert. I was very impressed at the attendance, organization, enthusiasm and professionalism of the event, staff and all participants. This was the most outstanding Chamber-type meeting that I have attended. It was very obvious how important your organization is to the local business community and how advantageous it is for a local business to be involved with your team. I commend you on a successful event!” Greg Rauckhorst Franchise Development Consultant Valpak “This was Breedlove’s third year in a row to be an exhibitor at the Business Expo. As always, the opportunity to rub shoulders and build relationships with others in the business community and meet new people is difficult to put a price tag on. The name recognition that occurs as a result of participating in the Business Expo is well worth the investment. In my three years in attendance, this was the best yet. The Lubbock Chamber of Commerce somehow manages to outdo itself each year.” David R. Hankins Director of Donor Development and Marketing Breedlove Foods, Inc. “In Business since 2006, we have found the Business Expo to be one of the most profitable opportunities to get in front of future clients each year. You do not know what you do not know if you are not a part of the Business Expo.” Blake Templeton Director of Operations Lubbock Invest “Lubbock Chamber of Commerce’s 2013 Business Expo was hands-down the best and most enjoyable way to network with successful business owners and organizations in the area. In addition to all of the contacts, it is a chance to view all of the innovative ways others are conducting business in order to be successful. I also enjoyed a wonderful lunch by sampling all of the delicious cuisine from some of my favorite participating restaurants. We are already signed up for 2014 and looking forward to the next Business Expo!” Kim Lehman Public Information Officer & Director of PR and Marketing Workforce Solutions South Plains Thank you to the 2013 Business Expo Sponsors! By Samantha Cavanaugh
Congratulations to our June Business of the Month, Standard Sales! Standard Sales has a proven track record of supporting the Lubbock community through its participation in multiple community outreach programs and its sponsorship of the Chamber. Recently, the organization hosted the Total Resource Campaign Victory Party at its warehouse in North Lubbock. “Hosting events like this with the Chamber really allow us to promote some of our less prominent products to the community,”

said branch manager, Les Gillit. Additionally, Standard Sales participates in the Chamber’s Ambassador program, Business After Hours and the Hub City BBQ. However, it’s not just their participation with Chamber events that allows them to reach out to the community. Recently, 25 employees helped to build a sensory garden in Lubbock, and the company continually volunteers together with the Ronald McDonald House, Children’s Miracle Network and other local non-profit organizations. “We try to always consider our role in corporate social responsibility throughout Lubbock,” said Cindy Scruggs, Standard Sales’ office manager. “What is good for Lubbock is good for our business and other businesses throughout the community.”

Imagine Lubbock organizers unveil “elements for Lubbock’s future” Contributed by Adam Young, Lubbock Avalanche-Journal
Plans are moving to the next phase after more than 20 months of discussion by the Imagine Lubbock Together steering committee and contributions from more than 2,000 Lubbockites at community forums since last fall. And that phase could mean more bike trails along the Canyon Lakes, eye-appealing gateways to the Hub City and more shopping centers, organizers hope. From developing arts and culture to cultivating water and energy resources, revitalizing downtown and promoting more opportunities for education and employment, Imagine Lubbock organizers laid out what they say are Lubbock residents’ goals for the city. The Lubbock Chamber of Commerce-launched Imagine Lubbock Together steering committee unveiled what it called a draft plan for the city’s future during a community report event Tuesday, May 14, at the Cactus Theater.

“We think we’ve done an excellent job collecting these citizen inputs and putting them into an action plan for Lubbock’s future,” said Connie Wharton, co-chairwoman of the steering committee.
“The public has told us what they want and the challenge has been to turn all that input into eight major elements,” Seim said last week.
