Interior design 2023

As part of the efforts taking place to renovate the campus of the University of Benghazi after the unfortunate damage due to the war, I was part of the design team responsible for designing the interior of the main administration building on the campus to adapt it for modern use.

In this project, I participated in conceptualising the overall theme of the interior design, the materials, and the colour scheme. As well as, the interior design and rendering of the entrance foyer and the cafe.

Subsequent to developing the design, I was responsible for developing shop drawings of the cladding materials and furnishings, and revising that the supplier is providing them according to our drawings.

Currently, I am the coordinator that follows up on the installation of these claddings in the site to ensure they match the design we requested from the supplier.

La Scoula Per L’Italia di domani, is a competition

I took part in when I was interning in Rome, Italy. The competition brief provided locations in Italy where new schools are required, which follow nowadays standards.

In this project, I was part of a team where I worked in the initial conceptualising phase of the idea, and subsequently in the visualisation of the project.

The design focused on providing a playful environment for students where they are motivated, while also portraying a playful inviting exterior, and following a budget.

The project was successfully shortlisted for the second phase of the competition.

Renovation for the top floor of the Tosa refuge “T. Pedrotti”

Renovation competition

Tommaso Pedrotti Refuge is a refuge built in the early 1900s on a rocky ledge in the Adamello Brenta Natural Park and is considered a historic figure that has gone under maintenance over the years to preserve. However, after careful analysis by the Società degli Alpinisti Tridentini, it was realised that it needs a partial renovation intervention that requires the demolishing of the top level and reconstructing it to bear the environmental conditions of the site and also enhancing the function of the interior.

I was part of the design team that participated in this renovation competition, as well as being responsible for the visualisation of both the renders and diagrams.

The design idea was to create an installation that makes a statement, which contrats with the existing without compromising the authenticity of the building. In that sense, the design aimed to create a top level that relates to some of the materials used in the refuge facades, but used shapes that interpret the previous top level in a more modern way, with a modern metal roofing.

The new interior also introduces a viewing gallery that aligns with the corridor axis and overlooks the mountain ledge, creating an interesting interior space that opens to nature. The top level also introduces environmental sustainability by using solar panels in the inclined roof.

2022

Greeko Moderno is a hotel apartment building designed with respect to the privacy required in the Libyan culture by utilising courtyards for each apartment. The project also values reflecting the architectural style of the Mediterranean with a modern interpretation in both shapes and materials. In this project, I was responsible for the conceptualization, design, drafting and visualization.

Moderno Hotel Apartments

The hotel apartment replicates attached housing to avoid a bulky huge form and also provide diversity in the facade.

It was also an essential concept in this design to create the least number of openings to the street as a response to the Libyan culture that values privacy. For that reason, a set of courtyards were included to provide connectivity with nature without compromising privacy.

This vacation house was the first professional project I worked on, it was for a family that enjoys gathering on a regualr basis for liesure and relaxation. The design was planned to be built in 2 phases due to both financial and social factors.

FLOOR PLAN 1:100 MAIN ENTRANCE

The first phase included the general functions of a vacation home, while the second phase included a guestroom with a toilet, upgrading this vacation home into a potential small villa for the grandparents. Relaxation and openness to the outdoors were important design aspects, it can be interpreted in the plans, as great attention is paid to the living space that overlooks the garden and swimming pool. More importantly, the living space can be extended to the terrace when opening the sliding door. Thus connecting it to the outdoor dining and built in BBQ area.
