TOCRA’S ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM AND PARK

ACADEMIC GRADUATION PROJECT

Heritage preservation

2021

The project was designed to safeguard one of the neglected famous archaeological sites in Libya and one of the Pentapolis cities, which is Tocra’s Ancient City-Taucheira-.

In order to achieve preservation, the project addressed designing a museum that integrates with the site and hosts the ancient city’s artefacts, as well as designing a master plan that narrates the history of the site, while providing a variety of activities. In other words, it transforms the neglected site into a preserved tourism destination.

The master plan design focuses on providing leisure and educational activities that relate to the history of the ancient city and teleports the visitors to ancient times. The master plan also solved the challenge of facilitating tourists’ accessibility throughout the site as the site has a slightly contoured land with many ancient quarries. In response, the master plan provided paths that make it easier to walk on the harsh land, as well as varying ramps that facilitate accessibility to all.
