FRONTROW FUR IN FASHION focalizza l’attenzione, in questa seconda uscita, su tre notissime griffes che, per le loro collezioni, scelgono la qualità garantita delle pellicce NAFA, derivata da un’attenta ricerca nel rispetto dell’ambiente e nell’economia della sostenibilità. Lo stile di Gianfranco Ferré che si esprime ancora nel mondo della pellicceria grazie alle fedeli interpretazioni di Roberto Ravizza nella linea Furs by Mondialpelli, può ulteriormente essere ammirato nella prima Capsule Collection dalla doppia etichetta Gianfranco Ferré Furs/NAFA: undici capi dall’atmosfera casual-chic anni ’70. Un altro binomio di successo continua a consolidarsi nell’atelier Pologeorgis di New York City che da più di vent’anni traduce nei visoni, nelle volpi e nelle marmotte nordamericane l’estetica di Michael Kors, in uno strettissimo rapporto di scambio fra abilità tecniche e invenzioni creative. La prima sfilata di Haute Fourrure di Fendi, lanciata lo scorso anno a Parigi, ha un seguito: Pietro Beccari, CEO di Fendi, rivela che cornice della seconda edizione sarà la città di Roma, per festeggiare i 90 anni che legano indissolubilmente la capitale italiana con la Maison resa celebre in tutto in mondo dalle cinque sorelle, con la preziosa collaborazione di Karl Largerfeld. Vi raccontiamo Vision 2020 il progetto di tracciabilità di Nafa. Non manca infine una panoramica sulle tendenza per l’autunno-inverno 2016/2017, fra le quali le proposte stilistiche suggerite per il brand NAFA nell’evento “Italian Fur Fashion Night” organizzato da Mifur. It has been a full rotation of the sun since we launched our first issue, and I am pleased to present you with the second issue of FRONTROW FUR IN FASHION. In this issue, FRONTROW focuses on three well-known fashion labels that have chosen to work in collaboration with North American Fur Auctions – purveyors of the world’s finest quality fur. First, we explore the double-labeled Gianfranco Ferré Furs/NAFA Capsule Collection, comprised of eleven casual-chic garments inspired by the 1970s. This collection, which premiered at MiFur Milan, is true to the style and vision of Gianfranco Ferré, thanks to the faithful interpretation by Mondialpelli’s Roberto Ravizza who, along with NAFA’s Rob Cahill, seeks to reach the next generation of fur consumers. Next, we speak with Nick Pologeorgis from his Manhattan atelier, to discuss his company’s history and the designers he works with, including his brand’s 20-year relationship with Michael Kors. We discuss the aesthetic of the Kors brand, and how Pologeorgis uses mink, fox and North American raccoon to express the ongoing interchange of technical skills and creative inventions. You’ll also find our cover story – a profile of the Fendi dynasty, and the tireless work of the five Fendi sisters. After a resoundingly successful initial Haute Fourrure fashion show in Paris in 2015, Pietro Beccari, Fendi’s CEO, reveals that the backdrop for the second edition will be the city of Rome, to celebrate and honor the 90-year relationship that has linked the Italian capital to the eponymous fashion house. In this issue, we will introduce you to NAFA’s Vision 2020 – a road map to an ambitious four-year plan of fur certification and traceability, which has been developed as part of the company’s Corporate and Social Responsibility initiative. Last but not least, we bring you an overview of the trends for F/W 2016/17, including the stylistic ideas showcased during Mifur’s annual “Italian Fur Fashion Night” gala. The general themes that emerged were vibrant colors, intarsia, unusual pairings and versatility, which allow for the transformation of garments for different occasions.

FASHION DYNASTY LA MAISON Sfiora il secolo l’attività di Casa Fendi: risale infatti al 1918 il laboratorio di pellicceria aperto a Roma da Adele Casagrande, madre delle cinque sorelle artefici del successo dell’impresa di famiglia. Il celebre nome compare per la prima volta nel 1926, quando Adele apre col marito Edoardo Fendi una boutique, la cui fama negli anni ’30 e ’40 oltrepassa i confini nazionali. Nel 1946 subentrano ai genitori le figlie Paola, Anna, Franca, Carla e Alda con diversi ruoli complementari: l’attività si espande vertiginosamente. Nel 1965 inizia la collaborazione con Karl Lagerfeld, che introduce lavorazioni innovative e inventa il logo della doppia F. Alle creazioni di pellicce si aggiungono, dagli anni ’70, il prêt-àporter femminile, la linea maschile, i profumi, gli occhiali e i jeans. Le borse hanno un nome, come la famosa Baguette. Dal 2001 Fendi è sostenuta dalla partnership col gruppo LVMH. Le linee-guida creative sono dettate da Silvia Venturini Fendi, figlia di Anna, e da Karl Largerfeld.

The origins of the House of Fendi trace back to nearly a century ago. It was 1918 when Adele Casagrande opened fur and leather goods shop in Rome. The name Fendi first appeared in 1926 when Adele and her husband Edoardo Fendi opened a boutique whose fame during the 30’s and 40’s steadily spread beyond the borders of Italy. In 1946, Adele and Edoardo’s daughters, Paola, Anna, Franca, Carla and Alda – the “Fendi sisters”- began taking over their parents’ business, each taking on different, yet complementary roles. With five active and vibrant young women at the helm, the House of Fendi began to ascend the Haute Couture ladder. In 1965, designer Karl Lagerfeld joined the company, introducing new and innovative working techniques as well as inventing the double F logo. In the late 1970s, in addition to its fur creations, Fendi expanded to include a women’s prêt-àporter line and a menswear line, along with fragrances, eyewear and jeans. The classic, emblematic leather handbags that launched the brand were each given a special name, such as the original “It bag” – the Baguette, which debuted in 1997. In 2001, Fendi entered into a partnership with the LVMH group, where the creative reigns were handed over to Karl Lagerfeld and Silvia Venturini Fendi - Anna’s daughter and the third generation of the Fendi dynasty.

A myriad of important events have marked the celebration of this milestone date for the House of Fendi, whose name remains inextricably linked to Rome “the Eternal City”, and its monuments.

Dopo più di 70 anni è tornato ad animarsi il Palazzo della Civiltà Italiana, la gigantesca opera realizzata nel quartiere Eur a Roma per l’Esposizione Universale del 1942 e mai utilizzata.

Il palazzo, progettato alla fine degli anni ’30 dagli architetti Guerrini, La Padula e Romano, subito soprannominato Colosseo quadrato per il caratteristico aspetto, sfondo di tanti film d’autore – da Fellini a Rossellini, da Antonioni fino a Paolo Sorrentino per “La Grande Bellezza” – è diventato con un attento restauro il nuovo headquarter della Maison Fendi. Per condividere con il pubblico questo eccezionale avvenimento, il primo piano è dedicato a un’area espositiva di 1200 metri quadri, destinata a ospitare mostre e installazioni che valorizzino il made in Italy in tutte le sue forme. Ai piani superiori, dove hanno sede gli uffici, grandi lastre in cristallo sostituiscono le pareti con effetto open-space. Lo studio del

After more than 70 years, the Palazzo della Civilità Italiana has been reborn, serving now as the headquarters of the Fendi fashion house. Designed at the end of the 1930s by architects Giovanni Guerrini, Ernesto Bruno La Padula and Mario Romano, the enormous structure was erected in Rome’s Eur district for the 1942 World’s Fair. Following its initial construction, the structure remained unused, abandoned, and in a state of disrepair for most of its history, seeing a new life as a setting for several well-known films shot by directors Fellini, Rossellini, Antonioni, and most recently Paolo Sorrentino for La Grande Bellezza (The Great Beauty).

Now entering its third life, the historic building has been fully restored to house Fendi’s headquarters, retaining much of its original grandeur including the exquisite, original marble staircases and floors. The first floor, spread over an area

Alle pellicce, realizzate in questa sede, è riservato uno spazio appositamente dedicato, mentre a Palazzo Fendi, nel centro di Roma, riaperto quest’anno dopo un ulteriore restauro che perfeziona il precedente del 2005, è possibile ammirare da vicino la creazione di un capo in pelliccia in tutte le sue fasi, sotto l’esperta guida di cinque maestri artigiani. I clienti possono così scegliere e ordinare un modello su misura, partecipando da vicino alla sua realizzazione e decidendo personalmente tutte le varianti. L’atelier è situato al primo piano del Palazzo, che applica il concetto di trasparenza e visibilità anche nel flag-ship store, il più grande del mondo, dove le vetrine sono una finestra a 360° su quanto è esposto all’interno. L’amore delle sorelle Fendi per i monumenti di Roma si è espresso nel restauro del complesso delle Quattro Fontane, soggetto di una mostra iconografica con fotografie di Karl Lagerfeld, e della Fontana di Trevi, tornata agli antichi splendori. Sono previsti i restauri del Ninfeo del Pincio, del fontanone del Gianicolo e della statua del Mosé di Michelangelo. Il rapporto indissolubile che da 90 anni lega la famosa Maison di moda alla capitale sarà suggellato da un libro, FENDI ROMA, di prossima uscita, in cui si potrà sfogliare, pagina dopo pagina, la magnifica avventura partita da una boutique di via del Plebiscito. Con queste premesse, dopo il felice esordio parigino dello scorso anno, la seconda edizione della sfilata di Haute Fourrure non poteva avere altra sede che Roma.

of 1,200 square meters, is a permanent free-entry gallery, designed to host exhibitions and installations promoting all aspects of “Made in Italy”. This allows the general public entrance to the building for the first time in its history.

Upstairs, sheets of crystal providing an open-space effect have replaced the walls of the upper floors where the Fendi offices are located. The office of CEO Pietro Beccari is housed on the third floor, while Karl Lagerfeld, Silvia Venturini Fendi and Marco De Vincenzo, flanked by an additional sixty designers have taken up residence on the sixth floor. The remaining floors have been given over to pattern makers, seamstresses and the entire supply chain of a production associated with Italian artisanal quality.

The restored Palazzo Fendi in the center of Rome is the company’s second architectural landmark that has been restored, refurbished and reopened. Here, the company not only opened its largest boutique in the world, but also an in-house fur atelier, luxury hotel, and private VIP apartment. A dedicated area on the first floor of the Palazzo Fendi, whose windows offer a panoramic view of the goods displayed inside, is reserved for the furs that are made in-house, in which customers can admire and participate in all the stages involved in the creation of a fur garment under the expert guidance of five master craftsmen.

The Fendi dynasty’s continued love for the monuments of Rome is also expressed in their restoration of the Trevi Fountain to its former glory, as well as the Quattro Fontane complex – both subjects of an iconic photography exhibition featuring photographs by Karl Lagerfeld. Restoration work on the Ninfeo del Pincio, the fountain of Gianicolo and Michelangelo’s statue of Moses are also foreseen.

The enduring relationship that has linked the famous fashion house to Rome since the 1990’s will be commemorated by a book entitled FENDI ROMA. The book is scheduled to be published in September, and will chronicle the couture house’s magnificent adventure that began as the small boutique on via Plebiscito.

Given Fendi’s history, and following its successful Parisian debut last year, Rome is a fitting setting for the upcoming second edition of the Haute Fourrure fashion show.

Quali sono stati i cambiamenti più significativi in questi 90 anni?

C’è stata un’evoluzione straordinaria se si pensa che nel 1926 Fendi era un negozio romano di pelletteria e, grazie al lavoro delle cinque sorelle eredi dell’impresa, è diventato un marchio di fama mondiale, entrato a far parte del gruppo LVMH nel 2001. Questo è un momento molto importante per la Maison: la sede operativa si è trasferita nel Palazzo della Civiltà Italiana appositamente restaurato, mentre atelier, boutique e anche un hotel con suites continuano a far vivere Palazzo Fendi nel centro di Roma. Il ristorante giapponese Zuma ha scelto proprio questa sede per l’apertura italiana.

What have been the most noteworthy changes over the past 90 years?

If you think about it, there has been an extraordinary evolution. In 1926, Fendi was simply a Roman leather goods shop. Nowadays, thanks to the tireless work of the five sisters who inherited the business, it has become a world-famous brand and a part of the LVMH group (2001). This is a very important moment for the House of Fendi: it has moved its operating headquarters to the Palazzo della Civiltà Italiana, which was restored especially for the purpose. An atelier, boutique and a hotel continue to keep Palazzo Fendi alive in the centre of Rome. Japanese restaurant Zuma has chosen this location for its Italian opening.

The brand has evolved from a fur couture house to luxury prêt-à-porter. How did this

Fra i valori importanti di Fendi coesistono tradizione e modernità che favoriscono la ricerca con stimolanti curiosità e indubbie capacità. La moda, in grado di attirare un nuovo pubblico, ha rappresentato una naturale continuità, al passo coi tempi.

La presenza di Karl Lagerfeld: quanto c’è di simbiosi fra la maison FENDI e lo stilista? È incredibile come Karl Lagerfeld e Silvia Venturini Fendi interagiscano all’unisono nella creazione di una nuova collezione. Insieme hanno deciso che il motto di Casa Fendi per il prossimo futuro sarà: “Niente è impossibile”, a ricordo delle innovazioni, fino ad allora impensabili, introdotte in pellicceria da Karl Lagerfeld quando è iniziata la sua collaborazione con la Maison.

Quale significato rappresenta una sfilata di Haute Fourrure? Quali sono stati gli sviluppi?

La prima Haute Fourrure Collection ha segnato un passo significativo nello sviluppo della ricerca di nuovi effetti e soluzioni innovative per le attuali pellicce. Il risultato è stato reso

possibile dalla collaborazione con atelier francesi di Alta moda. L’unione fra l’artigianalità del made in Italy e le eccellenze nella creatività sarà visibile nella seconda sfilata di Haute Fourrure che quest’anno a luglio si svolgerà a Roma, per ribadire il rapporto speciale tra Fendi e il suo luogo d’origine.

Progetti e sviluppi nel prossimo futuro?

Abbiamo intenzione di valorizzare l’abilità della tradizione artigiana italiana, che non deve estinguersi ma che, al contrario, deve essere potenziata. Oltre a collaborare con l’Istituto Superiore per la Conservazione ed il Restauro di Roma, abbiamo recentemente inaugurato l’Accademia di Sartoria Maria Antonietta Massoli a Casperia (Rieti), per il prêt-à-porter, e stiamo organizzando una scuola-laboratorio di pelletteria a Bagno a Ripoli (Firenze), dove vengono prodotte le nostre borse, per insegnare ai giovani tutte le fasi del processo di lavorazione. Anche nel nostro atelier di pellicce, a Roma, attualmente i più esperti artigiani lavorano accanto alla nuova generazione per trasmettere il loro sapere.

The coexistence of tradition and modernity are amongst Fendi’s key values, encouraging research with thought-provoking ideas in conjunction with indisputable skills. Fashion, which attracts new audiences, represents an ongoing and natural continuity keeping pace with the times.

The presence of Karl Lagerfeld: how symbiotic is the relationship between the House of Fendi and the designer?

It’s amazing how Karl Lagerfeld and Silvia Venturini Fendi work in unison when creating a new collection. They both decided that the motto for the House of Fendi in the future should be: “Nothing is impossible”, to honor innovations that Karl Lagerfeld introduced into Fendi’s fur creations when he started working with the Maison, and that were deemed unthinkable at that time.

What meaning does a Haute Fourrure fashion show have? What is different this year?

The first Haute Fourrure Collection marked a significant step in the development of the search for new effects and innovative solutions

in today’s furs. The result was achieved thanks to Largerfeld’s collaboration with French Haute Couture ateliers. The combination of Made in Italy craftsmanship and daring creativity in furs will be evident in the second Haute Fourrure fashion show, scheduled for presentation on July 7 in Rome, underlining the special relationship between Fendi and its place of origin.

Are there any projects or developments in the works for the near future?

We intend to validate the tradition of Italian artisanship, which should not be allowed to disappear but should be even further strengthened. In addition to collaborating with the Superior Institution for the Conservation and Restoration of Rome, we recently opened the Maria Antonietta Massoli Sartorial Academy in Casperia (Rieti) for prêt-à-porter, and we are organizing a fur school workshop in Bagno a Ripoli (Florence), where our bags are produced, to teach young people about all the stages of the manufacturing process. Even at our fur atelier in Rome, our expert artisans are working alongside a new generation to pass on their skills, knowledge and experience.

Pologeorgis has been a pioneer in cultivating relationships that link the world of fur with the concepts of international fashion designers for over 40 years.

Un recente esempio e’ stato durante la sfilata A/I 16/17 di Michael Kors dove il tema floreale è stato sviluppato su stole e giacche con intarsi di petali in visone dalle diverse sfumature pastello. Ma il noto stilista americano non è l’unico ad affidarsi all’esperienza e all’abilità dell’impresa famigliare fondata nel 1960 da Stanley Pologeorgis e ora diretta dal figlio Nick, laureato in economia finanziaria all’Università di Boston nel 1984, che si occupa del settore commerciale e della partecipazione alle aste ma soprattutto della scelta della materia prima di cui e’ un grande esperto. Sua sorella Joan lo affianca dal 1989, curando la produzione e la parte stilistica. Oltre a proporre una ricca serie di modelli per i propri clienti, Pologeorgis ha creato, con intuito pionieristico, una rete di contatti fra i fashion designer e la pellicceria. La prima collezione per uno stilista risale al 1970, con la sfilata di Pierre Balmain. Da lì hanno fatto seguito le collaborazioni con il già citato Michael Kors, di cui può vantare una continuità più che ventennale, quindi con Derek Lam, Zac Posen, Ralph Rucci, Monique Lhuillier, Zandra Rhodes e molti altri. Michael Kors is not alone in entrusting his brand to the experience and skills of this familyrun business. Pologeorgis was established in 1960 by Stanley Pologeorgis and is now run by his son Nick, who graduated with a degree in financial economics from the University of Boston in 1984. Although Nick deals with sales and participates at auctions, he is primarily responsible for the choice of raw materials, his main area of expertise. His sister Joan joined the company in 1989 and is responsible for production and the creative side of the business.

In addition to offering its clients a rich selection of styles, thanks to its pioneering spirit, Pologeorgis has created a network of contacts between fashion designers and the fur industry. The first collection created for a designer dates back to 1970, with a fashion show by Pierre Balmain. This was followed by collaborations with the above mentioned Michael Kors, with whom Pologeorgis now boasts an ongoing twenty-year relationship, in addition to Derek Lam, Zac Posen, Ralph Rucci, Monique Lhuillier, Zandra Rhodes, and many others. To get a better understanding of how this family-run business has grown and expanded over the years, we asked Nick Pologeorgis a few questions.

Può descriverci la lunga collaborazione con Michael Kors? È sempre un piacere lavorare con Michael Kors, perché siamo coinvolti in tutte le fasi del processo creativo. Per noi è molto interessante scegliere ad ogni stagione, fra le diverse opzioni di tecniche e pellicce, quella che meglio si adatta a interpretare lo stile richiesto. Naturalmente cambiano i colori, le forme, le percezioni, ma abbiamo una chiara visione dell’estetica di Kors perché ci siamo evoluti con lui. Il suo progresso è andato di pari passo col nostro, in una vera e propria partnership. Ci consideriamo orgogliosi di sentirci parte della sua famiglia. Collaboriamo con Michael Kors da 21 anni per le collezioni Pre Fall e Fall-Winter. Negli ultimi tempi anche nelle collezioni Resort la pelliccia ha un ruolo sempre più importante.

Potrebbe citare i nomi di altri stilisti con i quali siete in contatto? Quale tipo di assistenza offrite?

Pologeorgis è una delle più grandi aziende di pellicce negli Stati Uniti con un’ampia sede a New York City. Qui vengono realizzate le creazioni di alcuni fra i più prestigiosi designer, fra i quali Zac Posen, Zandra Rhodes, Derek Lam e Monique Lhuillier. Can you tell us about your long-time collaboration with Michael Kors?

It’s always a pleasure to work with Michael Kors because we are involved in all the stages of the creative process. Each season, it’s interesting to choose from amongst the different available options in terms of techniques and pelts, especially those that are best suited to interpreting the look required. Although colors, shapes and perceptions change, we have a clear vision of the Kors aesthetic because we have evolved with him. His progress has gone hand-in-hand with ours, and we have developed a real partnership. We are proud to be a part of his family. We have been working with Michael Kors for 21 years for his Pre-Fall and Fall-Winter collections. Recently, fur has also begun to play an increasingly important role in his Resort collections.

Can you tell us the names of other designers with whom you collaborate? What sort of assistance do you offer?

Pologeorgis is one of the largest fur companies in the United States, with headquarters in New York City. The creations of several of the world’s most prestigious designers, including Zac Posen, Zandra Rhodes, Derek Lam and Monique Lhuillier are created here. Furthermore, the most sought-after and precious sables in the world can be found in the capsule collection prepared for Ralph Rucci, the well-known American couturier.

Our recent collaboration with Monique Lhuillier has produced a wonderful exchange of information. Pologeorgis has made its 60 years of experience available to Lhuillier’s stylistic team, enhancing their furs with never-before-seen styles and unique details, while its fashion house in Los Angeles has inspired us to make the best use of new technologies.

You choose to purchase much of the fur you use at NAFA. What are your reasons?

Our decision stems from the guaranteed quality of NAFA’s mink and wild furs, which have made the creations by Pologeorgis famous throughout the world. Our customers always expect to find those types of pelts in new collections. NAFA offers the best American shorthaired mink with a rich range of nuances.

By personally participating at auctions throughout the world, I am able to distinguish and evaluate the pelts and follow price fluctuations in different categories. We have a vast selection, and we purchase at the most favorable conditions so that we can

Ad ogni stagione Michael Kors presenta un capo d’abbigliamento che focalizza l’attenzione della stampa e dei buyers perché riassume lo stile del momento. Per il prossimo A/I il modello di tendenza è un visone a intarsi di fiori in toni pastello, che reinventa secondo procedimenti moderni una tecnica già usata in passato, per un effetto vintage. Ogni motivo floreale è tagliato e cucito a mano, quindi viene unito agli altri secondo uno schema patchwork disegnato dal team stilistico di Kors. Il lavoro, eseguito nel nostro atelier di New York, richiede parecchi giorni per essere completato. Una speciale versione in tonalità cioccolato è stata creata appositamente per l’immagine NAFA. Mi riferisco sempre alla collezione di Michael Kors per l’ A/I 16/17. L’inimitabile mood chic si coniuga alla libertà di mixare.

What kinds of fur are your customers demanding?

NAFA offers such a wide variety of choices that we are able to showcase a series of pelts of only the highest quality. At our atelier, we produce our in-house Pologeorgis brand label, which also includes a homewear line: throws and rugs, as well as fox, coyote and mink cushions, to offer an exclusive décor. All garments, items of clothing, home furnishings and accessories are featured both in our catalogue and on our website at www.pologeorgis. com. For example, in addition to mink, we show fox and North American raccoon dyed in navy blue. American clients tend to favour the beauty of NAFA Mink in shades of grey, including Blue Iris. Although black continues to be most widely sold, pastel shades are also widely appreciated. The reasons clients choose NAFA pelts is based on their luxurious appearance and feel. For our most recent advertising campaign, which appeared in Harper’s Bazaar and Town & Country in the U.S., we chose a black North America raccoon and fox coat. The same style, worn by Bella Hadid, was later photographed for one of the latest issues of Elle.

What is the most sought-after fur in your collection this year?

Each season, Michael Kors showcases an item of clothing that captures the attention of the press and buyers because it epitomizes the style of the moment. For the forthcoming F/W season, the trendiest model is a floral-intarsia mink in pastel colors.

Based on modern procedures, the floral-intarsia mink reinvents a technique from the past to offer a vintage effect. Each floral motif is cut and sewn by hand and then combined with the others, and is based on a patchwork scheme, designed by the Kors stylistic team. This work, executed at our New York atelier, requires several days to complete. A special version in shades of chocolate was specifically created for the NAFA collection.

Tell us about your latest collection in terms of inspiration, mood, color palette, types of fur, style and techniques.

The F/W 16/17 collection by Michael Kors combines an inimitably chic mood with the freedom to mix; floral motifs and metallic reflections, short jackets and garments finished with trimmings, oversize lines in furs and moderate lengths in shearlings. Dominant colors include powder blue, wisteria, moss, brown and slate grey.

Si ispira ai favolosi anni ’70 francesi, vissuti spensieratamente a ritmo di rock, la Capsule Collection disegnata da Roberto Ravizza per Gianfranco Ferré Furs by Mondialpelli in joint-venture con NAFA.

Gianfrance Ferré Furs by Mondialpelli, under the design direction of Roberto Ravizza, has teamed up with world-renowned fur auction house North American Fur Auctions to create an exclusive Capsule Collection, inspired by the fabulous French seventies.

Sono dotati di due etichette gli undici modelli che accompagnano idealmente le giornate di una donna moderna, che con grande disinvoltura sa indossare una giacca in visone per poi passare allo stile casual sporty di un parka riscaldato dall’interno in marmotta nordamericana. È infatti duplice l’anima che ha ispirato la Capsule Collection Gianfranco Ferré Furs/NAFA per A/I 2016/17 presentata nell’ultima edizione di Mifur a Milano: da una parte ci sono i visoni, le volpi, i castori e le marmotte nordamericani NAFA, che siglano la garanzia della prima etichetta, dall’altra la creatività di Roberto Ravizza che per Gianfranco Ferré Furs by Mondialpelli firma la seconda etichetta. Un connubio non nuovo ma cementato col tempo e con reciproca stima che si è concretizzato ora in una serie di capi dallo stile giovane e scanzonato.

“Avevamo in mente di rendere più fresca e attuale l’immagine di Gianfranco Ferré Furs, con modelli facili da portare, che attirassero anche le teen-agers verso l’acquisto della loro prima pelliccia” spiega Roberto Ravizza “ quindi la richiesta di preparare una mini-collezione per NAFA è arrivata proprio al momento opportuno, perché eravamo già orientati verso la ricca e pregiata produzione di questa importante Casa d’Aste,

The double-labeled collection was unveiled at the 2016 Milan Fur Fair (Mifur), and consists of eleven styles, created exclusively using Black NAFA, NAFA Mink, NAFA Fox and NAFA Northern Wild Fur. The versatile collection features pieces that can be worn on a daily basis by a modern woman who loves elegance, and interprets it in different ways; nonchalantly sporting a mink jacket by day, throwing on a chic fur and leather bomber for a night on the town, or adopting a more casual style with a North American raccoon-lined parka for added warmth.

After many years of cooperative agreements between the two organizations, this new Capsule Collection enhances the longstanding Gianfranco Ferré Furs/NAFA relationship. “Our idea was to rejuvenate the image of Gianfranco Ferré Furs with easy-to-wear styles that would also appeal to the new generation, encouraging them to purchase their first fur,” says Roberto Ravizza. “The request to prepare a mini-collection for NAFA came at just the right moment. GIANFRANCO FERRÉ l’archistar dalla moda (1944-2007) Ha sempre coniugato il rigore al sogno Gianfranco Ferré, nato a Legnano nel 1944 e attratto dal mondo della moda dopo la laurea in architettura presso il Politecnico di Milano. Alla fine degli anni ’70, aprono i battenti del suo atelier dove ogni abito racconta una storia precisa, che lo stilista comunica alla donna che dovrà indossarlo e farlo vivere, consapevole del lavoro che precede la creazione. L’attività si sviluppa a ritmo incessante: dopo il prêt-à-porter femminile, nasce la linea maschile, segue poi l’abbigliamento per bambini.

Nell’avventura dell’alta moda Gianfranco Ferré è chiamato a Parigi per dirigere la maison Dior, che rivitalizza con collezioni epocali. Si affiancano seconde linee, più accessibili “perché la moda deve essere alla portata di tutti”. Il marchio si estende agli accessori, ai profumi e ai bijoux. Fra i marchi licenziatari, Gianfranco Ferré Furs by Mondialpelli tiene vivo lo stile e la tradizione, proseguendo i risultati di una lunga collaborazione con Roberto Ravizza risalente al 1987.

GIANFRANCO FERRÉ Fashion Architect (1944-2007) Born in Legnano, Italy in 1944, Gianfranco Ferré was formally trained as an architect at the Politecnico di Milano.

In 1978, he opened his atelier, and it was then that his life in fashion truly began. Here each and every garment had a story to tell, and the designer conveyed the stories of his creative process to the women who would wear them. His business developed rapidly, and the launch of his first signature women’s prêt-àporter line was followed by a men’s line in 1982, and shortly after, a childrenswear collection. Ferré’s adventure in Haute Couture began in 1989 when he was appointed artistic director of Christian Dior as one of the first foreign-born designers to hold that position in a French fashion house. During his time at Dior (1989-1997), Ferré continued expanding his own brand with other, more affordable lines because, according to the late designer, “fashion should be accessible to everyone”.

The Ferré brand continued to expand to include licenses in accessories, fragrances and costume jewelry.

Among the brands that have been licensed to use the Ferré name, Gianfranco Ferré Furs by Mondialpelli is one of the most celebrated names in fur fashion. Under the leadership of Roberto Ravizza, Mondialpelli continues to keep the tradition of the Ferré couture house alive, producing exquisite collections that exude the late designer’s vision and dedication to craftsmanship.

Vincente l’idea di far rivivere negli undici capi della collezione i favolosi anni ’70 attraverso l’immagine evocativa di Betty Catroux, modella e musa di Yves Saint Laurent. Fu lei a suggerirgli di introdurre nelle collezioni capi fino a quel momento usati soltanto come divise o come abbigliamento di lavoro: la sahariana, la salopette, i bomber, i parka. Le notti nelle discoteche parigine indicavano colori fluorescenti, al neon. Le giacche nere di pelle con frange erano il riflesso della musica rock americana. “Mi sono divertito a riprendere le linee e i colori di quegli anni, ho mescolato forme e materiali con impensabili abbinamenti per un look nuovo, estremamente giovane e fuori dagli schemi” afferma Ravizza “perché le pellicce non devono essere solo in tinte scure ma spuntare come flash dagli armadi, essere visibili, avere la stessa forte personalità dell’icona anni ’70 a cui mi sono ispirato”. Ecco allora il blu Cina di un cappottino in castoro, il mix con nappa e tessuto per creare inedite varianti, le piccole giacche in visone a strisce, l’esotismo di una tunica a fiori associata al castoro arancione, i bomber di volpe e marmotta e i parka anche reversibili. La Capsule Collection Gianfranco Ferré Furs/NAFA, che verrà presentata in tutto il mondo, avrà un seguito: è già prevista la prossima per 2017/18.

Appealing to the next generation of fur consumers was one of the main focus points of this collection. Designer Roberto Ravizza has drawn inspiration by re-imagining the 1970’s, and taking style tips from icon Betty Catroux, Yves Saint Laurent’s muse and model. As the forerunner of androgynous, minimalist, rocker-chic style, the Catroux influence can be found in the casual parkas, short vests, small jackets, and bombers in this new collection. Pops of fluorescent and neon colors harken back to late nights in Parisian discotheques, while black leather fringed jackets reference American rock music.

“I had fun re-creating the lines and colors of those years, and combining shapes and materials for a new, trendy and unconventional look,” said Ravizza. “Fur garments shouldn’t only be in dark tones, but should add flashes of color to a woman’s wardrobe. They should be highly visible and have the same strong personality as the icon from whom I drew inspiration.” Hence the bright China blue of a short beaver coat, the combination of nappa leather and fabric to create unusual variations, the short, striped mixed-material jackets, an exotic orange floral beaver tunic, fox and raccoon bombers and even reversible parkas. The Capsule Collection Gianfranco Ferré Furs/NAFA, to be promoted in NAFA’s global campaigns, is sure to drive new trends. Lucky for fans of the double-label, given the overwhelming success of this year’s partnership, another collection is already in the pipeline for 2017/2018 .

Vision 2020 la nuova campagna di NAFA per la certificazione e tracciabilità NAFA’s New Campaign for Fur Certification and Traceability

In un mercato globale dove il consumatore è sempre più attento ai valori etici delle aziende, la trasparenza delle informazioni diventa un fattore imprescindibile di assunzione di responsabilità verso il mercato stesso. Non è più sufficiente offrire un prodotto eccellente, occorre comunicarne con chiarezza ogni passaggio del percorso di realizzazione. La tracciabilità del prodotto rappresenta pertanto lo strumento che garantisce una completa informazione sull’intero percorso di filiera delle industrie alimentari, della moda inclusa la pelliccia. È su tale spinta che nei prossimi quattro anni la canadese NAFA (North American Fur Auctions) intraprenderà un nuovo importante piano organizzativo di certificazione e tracciabilità chiamato Vision 2020. In today’s global market, consumers are increasingly aware of where their products come from, what they are made of, and how they were procured. In following with this philosophy, North American Fur Auctions (NAFA), headquartered in Toronto, Canada, has committed to a bold new fur certification and traceability initiative called Vision 2020. L’impegno è quello di sviluppare ulteriormente questo sistema affinché i brands ed i consumatori abbiano garanzia sulla provenienza etica del prodotto. Tale sistema di certificazione garantirà che ogni cacciatore abbia un’appropriata licenza, e che si autocertifichi nel rispetto e applicazione di queste regole. Inoltre sarà sviluppato un importante processo di informatizzazione affinché ogni singola pelle sia rintracciabile nel suo percorso dall’asta, la concia, la manifattura fino ai negozi .

At present, wild fur is already subjected to a process of traceability in its journey from the harvesters to the auction house. NAFA’s commitment is to further develop this system in order to reassure the fashion brands and consumers as to the ethical origin of the product. This certification system will guarantee that each trapper is properly licensed and certified through a process of selfdeclaration. In addition, technology will be developed to trace each individual pelt through the auction, dressing and manufacturing process, and ultimately to the consumer in the retail environment.

“We are taking from the success of our long and storied past, as we look towards the future,” said Rob Cahill, Senior Vice-President of Marketing at NAFA. “We are proud of this work and our ongoing commitment to the environment as well as to the people who live from the land. However, we are aware that we still have work to do, to fully deliver certified production and traceability from producer to consumer”.

NAFA has already begun two pilot projects, both targeted at developing a Wild Fur Certification and Traceability Program for two species (Coyote and Bobcat) to be completed by the end of 2016. These pilot projects will lay the groundwork in order to broaden the scope of the

Da oltre 100 anni questi allevamenti hanno progredito positivamente nella gestione e nella regolamentazione del processo produttivo e di sostenibilità sia per le pelli di visone che di volpe. Nell’ambito delle pellicce da allevamento NAFA è attualmente coinvolta nel programma di tracciabilità in collaborazione con la IFF (International Fur Federation) e la BSR (Business for Social Responsibility) e con i colleghi internazionali delle case d’asta con cui collabora.

NAFA continuerà a sostenere il lavoro attuale fatto dalle Associazioni Nazionali Nordamericane ed Europee e da IFF nel revisionare tutti i programmi di certificazione degli allevamenti per tutto il 2017. Ranch fur has seen many developments of best practices over the 100 plus years that the activity has existed for both mink and fox. NAFA will continue to support current work being done by National Associations in North America and Europe, as well as the IFF, to review all Farm Certification programs through 2017. The grand finale of Mifur’s annual fashion show featured a new collaboration between North American Fur Auctions (NAFA) and ten of Italy’s top fur designers who each interpreted wild fur with creativity and unique vision.

Come da tradizione, la prima giornata dell’importante fiera internazionale si è chiusa con una sfilata-omaggio al “made in Italy” . La creatività degli stilisti e le capacità artigianali italiane sono state celebrate con la presenza in passerella di dieci fra i più noti marchi del mondo della pellicceria: Gianfranco Ferré Furs; De Carlis; Diego M; Fabio Gavazzi; Giorgio Magnani Luxury; Grandi Fur; Maurizio Braschi; Pajaro; Rindi; Tosato 1928. Sopra, un maxi gilet di castoro verde, rasato e sfoderato, dall’esclusiva lavorazione traforata. In versione più essenziale, il gilet è abbinato a una “collerette-cagoule” in marmotta traforata. Creative Pairing Using a combination of NAFA wild furs and herringbonepattered wool, Rodolfo de Carlis interprets winter in a way that creates enormous visual impact. A short zippered jacket is finished with a beaver collar and a raccoon hood, while another features raccoon sleeves and pockets to enhance volume. Worn over this is a green, sheared, and unlined beaver maxi-gilet featuring a unique crochet technique. In the more minimalist version, the gilet is paired with a ‘collerette-cagoule’ in raccoon knit. Though all are unlined, particular attention has been paid to the inside of each garment, where seams are finished with decorative profile stitching.
