Sheer materials have been circulating for ages, but this season a peak has been hit. And although transparent clothes will always radiate some sex appeal, Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2013 taught us we can be classy and sexy at the same time. by Annick Van Dijk

During Fashion Week it became clear: showing some skin is everything but tacky. Many designers showed us the possibilities of using sheer materials in elegant ways. Lace was by far the leading fabric, but materials like silk chiffon, organza and mousseline came across as well. Chloé celebrated her 60th anniversary by representing a feminine collection full of lightness and confidence. We saw lots of cropped tops combined with pastel parts of see-through materials. Erdem used patch worked materials that fooled us into thinking it was lace. In reality it was handembroidered PVC. An extravagant collection was designed by Meadham Kirchhoff, who added some lace too. Only them managed to do so without exposing much skin, which was brilliant as always. One designer even took this trend to a higher level, as he combined lace with

leather – which resulted in a not so innocent collection. Jason Wu: “I wanted to do everything forbidden, everything you don’t do”. He included tough black and white looks and used different lace patterns that caught our eyes. Of course the celebrities took notice of this trend as well. We saw Rihanna wearing a beautiful red sheer dress from Azzedine Alaia at the BAFTA-awards. At the same event Kelly Rowland wore a Georges Chakra with multiple transparent cut outs showing off her fit figure. The challenge is to wear these materials while looking sexy, not trashy. We’ve been overblown by see-through fabrics during Fashion Weeks and now is the time to use them ourselves. With this little piece of fashion education we’re sure you will pull it off easily. Adriana Lima, Doutzen Kroes and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley; move over!

VINTAGE AS A WAY OF LIFE by Libertad Gómez

Here in MissRobin we’re all vintage lovers, and when we think about vintage, we obviously think about one of our favourite bloggers and vintage specialist, the Swedish redhead and gorgeous Elsa Billgren. Coinciding with the publication of her first book, ‘Elsa Billgrens Vintage’; we wanted to ask her a little bit about the culture of vintage, the beginning of her love story with vintage and of course what we can find in her book!

MissRobin: Hi Elsa! Thanks for heeding us! First of all, we know that you’re a big vintage lover and have a huge collection of vintage stuff, but... when did you started to feel some kind of interest about vintage? What was the first vintage thing you had? Elsa Billgren: Well, I fell in love with vintage as a small child, but then no one called it that. We all said second hand clothes and it wasn’t cool at all. My mom used to take us (me and my sister) out on Saturdays scouting for great items and then we compared them to each other, the cheaper the find the better! When I started high school and took drama classes I decided never to wear pants again and really went for my vintage look. My first vintage item was my first baby dress, my mom only dressed me in old clothes as a child. MR: You worked some time ago for Beyond Retro,

one of the huge vintage retailers in Stockholm; what exactly were you doing there? Do you miss it? EB: I worked at the store at first, but after a couple of weeks I applied for the press and PR position and got it! I had that job for four years and quit when I couldn’t do everything at once, as I had too many other jobs as a freelancer. I don’t really miss it beWWcause I’m there all the time visiting. I live so close that it’s like my second wardrobe! MR: God, I wish I could have a second wardrobe like that, hahaha! Later on you also worked in the Swedish television; searching for the best vintage clothes and redecorating people’s houses. What’s the most funny about it? Will you still be working on these programs with a new season this year? EB: Oh I love it so much! Deciding how people should have their houses is a real kick, and I love to be able to take down walls and get dirty, in my vintage dresses. The contrast is great!

“I FELL IN LOVE WITH VINTAGE AS A SMALL CHILD, BUT THEN NO ONE CALLED IT THAT” MR: In other order of things, how did you come to start a rental company of vintage wedding dresses (which we found it so clever and great)? How is the process of finding a dress like this? And more important, what advice do you give to those who come to you for the wedding dress of their dreams? EB: I just ended up with a lot of fancy dresses that weren’t in my size and felt like a horrible person hogging all these magnificent pieces, so I started to rent them out! Now I always look for vintage wedding dresses in the stores, so they can get married over and over again with my help! I always say, rent a cheap dress from me and buy an expensive pair of heels to enjoy your whole life!

MR: The book’s is going to be published in Sweden, is it possible to buy outside its borders? Do you think about translate into English in order that all your foreign readers can read it (we’ll love to, seriously!)? EB: Of course! I would love to translate it into English but that’s not up to me. Let’s hold our thumbs! MR: Yes, finger crossed! And finally, a question that we’re sure all our readers are asking themselves... what advice can you give to those interested in entering the world of vintage? What kind of clothing is essential in a vintage wardrobe?

MR: We know (and we’re very excited about) that you’re releasing a book really soon… Why did you decide to write a book? What kind of content can we find on it?

EB: Start up with accessories! Make your wardrobe personal with some vintage belts, bags, shoes and details! You will soon be enchanted and go all in, I promise!

EB: I really wanted to collect all my thought, passion and knowledge about vintage in a book, and had already started that process when my publisher contacted me. It was destiny! It’s a book you can have in your purse and bring while shopping for vintage, It’s the guide on how to become a vintage expert!

MR: That’s a great advice for sure!! Thank you so much for answering this little interview, Elsa!! So, are you ready now for exploring the vintage world? We’re ready for sure!

Literary growth or the reason for

Ah, growing up... from young to old, from recklessness to experience, from ignorance to accomplishment. Quite a feat!

Sometimes I wonder... Is there really a moment in which you are allowed to say “That’s it, I’m grown up”? Is it really possible to reach a point in which you’ve accomplished an ideal level of emotional maturity that enables you to feel like you’ve made it to the top of the hill, and that nothing remains for you to do other than continue walking down to the other side? Must we follow the natural scheme of growth and decay? It really is an intriguing question. If you asked Peter Pan, for instance, he’d reply with a blatant “No!” and a swing of his sword. Which raises a further question: is youth determined by age or by attitude? Can one refuse to grow old, and simply choose to build an infinite ladder at the top of the hill in order to never stop going upwards? Some people think so. My grandmother, for instance, is one of the most optimistic and active people I know. Which leads me to believe that, if youth is indeed about growth and evolution, so is the literature regarding it. From The Little Red Riding Hood’s initiation journey to The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants’ (Ann Brashares, 2001) teenager dramas, the genre of Young Adult literature is not an old phenomenon. In fact, it strikes me as very interesting how the same ‘moralistic’ spirit of Victorian times prevails today in this sort of literature. Life’s more than willing disposition to teach us important lessons has been famously portrayed throughout history in a great deal many pieces, a remarkable number of which feature young ladies struggling to make their way through life: from Charlotte Brontë’s Jane Eyre (1847) and Jane Austen’s Northanger Abbey (1817), to the later Little Women (1880) by North-American author Louisa May Alcott.

But this same script seems to be taken up again and again in updated versions such as Candace Bushnell’s The Carrie Diaries (2010) and Summer in the City (2011), or the Gossip Girl (2002-2009) series by Cecily Von Ziegesar. No matter the social or historical backdrop of these stories, it is always about being able to individually overcome adversity, whether it comes from external factors and events, or from aspects within ourselves, like our fears, prejudices or inexperience. Through this kind of literature, we get to witness these heroines’ loss of ingenuity and innocence, but also the gain of strength of character, decision and experience, no matter the outcome of their endeavours.W So be it to re-explore the contemporary uneasiness of first-kisses and awkward prom dates, or to go back in time to delve on the moral value of strength of character and religious resilience, let us indulge in this literature of growth and experience once again the cheerful struggle of youth! In 2009, Moschino Cheap and Chic debuted their Spring 2010 RTW collection and I have been bedazzled by the daisy sunglasses worn by the models ever since! In honor of spring, I decided to make a pair myself, and discovered it was surprisingly easy.

YOU WILL NEED: * 1 Sheet of white foam * Scissors * Cheap White Sunglasses * Pencil * Craft Glue

1. Draw a circle that is the same height as the lenses in your sunglasses on the white foam. Draw petals around circle, and then cut out daisy shape. 2. Repeat step one. 3. Glue cut-out daisies onto sunglasses. 4. Cut the â&#x20AC;&#x153;petalsâ&#x20AC;? where your nose is. 5. Let glue dry overnight, and then voila! The perfect daisy sunglasses!

Who has never listened Be My Baby while dreaming you are a Baby dancing with Johny in Dirty Dancing? Sure, The Ronettes achieved to take part at the soundtrack of any teenager’s life, even they weren’t an important group in the U.S.A in the early 60s. Selah Sue is nothing like you would expect. She sounds like a black woman with a heart full of soul, while in reality, she’s a tiny, blonde 23-year old from Belgium. It wasn’t until her sixteenth birthday when Sanne Putseys –which is her real name- found her own singing voice. When she participated in an Open Mic evening, she was discovered by singer Milow who took her on tour. Since then, she made a song with Cee-Lo Green and has been the support act of Prince, who said she was ‘breathing music’. Despite all of that she still got both feet on the ground and, as she says herself, she’s totally down to earth. Not only is she an incredible singer, she also loves fashion. This got her a few interesting collaborations; for instance it was her song that was played in Yves Saint Laurent’s campaign for their new perfume ‘Manifesto’. Also recently, she’s sponsored by Chanel, which is rare, because that mainly only happens with faces of the brand. You’ll recognize the singer-songwriter by her big cotton candy hair, which –if someone criticises it- she just pulls up a little higher. Selah Sue’s album is self-titled and has got songs like ‘raggamuffin’ and ‘crazy vibes’ on it. For me, it is the perfect album for a chill night at the beach as well as it is during a day of boring studying.
