Studio Project 1 - UFG Art School and Art Gallery 2011/1 Project Description: In this Design Studio, the goal was to explore the typology and form of an Art School and Art Gallery into two separate buildings. The exhibition area of the Art Gallery was designed as a ramp creating a continuous exhibition area that leads to the green roof, an additional area used for contemplation. As the focus of the users will be on the art pieces, the openings of the building will face the atrium that allows natural ventilation and light into the building. Meanwhile, the Art School was designed in a sinuous shape generating a soft relationship between both buildings. The classes have a visual connection with the outside through wide glass windows facing the vegetation.

Studio Project 5 - UFG Mini House 2013/2 Project Description: This project started with a study of the minimum dimensions needed for a single person to live in a comfort condition. The mini house was designed to achieve a minimum energy consumption and to filter out the sewage though a root zone treatment using banana trees. The bamboo was used as the main structure of the building for being easily found in different regions of the country. The Mini House uses a modifiable furniture that allows different layouts in which the living room can become a dining room. The bed can be found just above the bathroom, the only closed space in the house. Using the software HEED, the efficiency of the design was proved.

Studio Project 5 - UFG Affordable Housing 2013/2 The Affordable Housing project was designed within the city of Goiânia as a response to an area with many irregular houses. The "L" shaped building contains 3 different typologies of apartments, a day care center, a middle school and a commercial area. The interior of the site and the non-residential areas of the building were planned as a public space for the use of the community. The topography has a 10 meter sloop from one side of the lot to the other, and the sloop was used to create an access to the commercial area through the roof of the shorter building.

Studio Project 5 - UFG Jockey Club Extension 2014/1
The project is an extension to the existent Jockey Club aiming to incorporate new uses into the block. The new building includes several classrooms used for sewing, dance and craft classes, an auditorium and additional parking space. The access to the building takes place in different levels through ramps that have a visual impact on the facade. An important aspect of this project is the removal of the outside walls that surrounded the lot, what created a large public space area.

Design Studio IV Year - KSU Habitat for Humanity 2012/2
The image illustrates a section of a Habitat for Humanity design used to study alternatives to lower the energy consumption in this typology of building. The Design Studio goal was to design a house that could be easily assembled within the Habitat for Humanity characteristics. Cross ventilation, shading of the windows and ceiling fans were used to to lower the consumption during the summer, while south facing facade with internal heat gain was used to lower the energy bill during the winter. It was important to create a comfortable space maintaining a small footprint and simple design, which was achieved though the open floor plan.

Design Studio IV Year - KSU Center for Environmental Studies 2012/2 The Center for Environmental Studies was a project in which the Living Building Challenge was studied. Among other characteristics, new ways to generate clean energy were explored. A structure that connects the exterior facade to the interior of the lot is created with a photovoltaic material called DSSC, Dye Sensitized Solar Cells. Those generate energy used in the building while bringing attention to the central area of the project. The sewage treatment is another important aspect of the Living Building Challenge, which was solved with the use of the Living Machine, a bioremediation system. Natural lighting is used in all the rooms and the hallways lead to balconies in which the user has access to a community garden.

Studio Project 5 - UFG Multifunctional Building 2014/2 The Multifunctional Building has a high complexity program that includes a commercial gallery, office spaces and residential area in one building. The first floor is at street level, the best place for the gallery to be installed. Above the gallery, office spaces are placed. The housing area is set to be from the 4th to the 23rd floor. The facades are different for each solar orientation, although they look similar, the north facade in the south hemisphere needs to be more protected than the south facade. The volume created with the balconies protect the building from the direct heat gain and are more common on the north facade. Space for vegetation is proposed for the balconies as an alternative to avoid direct solar heat gain.

Internship Project Vanessa Garcia Arquitetura e Interiores Collection Center for NĂşcleo Laboratory 2014/2 The Architecture office worked on a laboratory for the company NĂşcleo for it's new collection center. The group consisted of three people, who worked on the entire project from the floor plans to the design of the facade. The project had to be approved by the city council and the health inspection team. The program includes a waiting area, a wheelchair accessible bathroom, a blood collection area, administration, reception, pastry and post-collection waiting area.

Illumination Design - UFG Natural Lighting Analysis 2014/1 For this class the luminous power of the natural light was measured by each student for a specific office room in the city of Goiânia. The room was divided in equal parts and measured is three specific hours of the day, at 8:00 AM for the morning sun, at 12:00 PM for the midday luminous power and at 6:00 PM for the late afternoon. Based on the results, a luminous graph was drawn and a proper lighting project was proposed.

Studio Project 7 - UFG Bus Terminal and Art Schools 2015/1 The program included two art schools, a bus terminal and a commercial gallery. The bus terminal and the commercial gallery are centralized as a connection between the art schools. The access to the central round building can be reached at 3 different levels. The first and highest level serves as entry for the green roof and the middle level that contains the commercial gallery. The lowest level holds the bus station that can only be accessed through the gallery. The art schools were planned to have a public main floor that would give access to the auditorium and the classrooms. The facade is composed by small wind turbines that create a mesh which generates energy for the building.
