In order for the community to buy into the concept of the park, the community needs to be able associate with the park. This relationship is best established through the incorporation of art and expression. Creating a space which reflects the expression of the community will create A COMMUNITY. We can do so by integrating color, art, music through a collaborative collection of community partners. The two-year study by researchers from the School of Social Policy & Practice at the University of Pennsylvania found that low-income New York City residents with more access to cultural resources experience better education, security and health outcomes. That includes a 14% decrease in cases of child abuse and neglect, an 18% decrease in the serious crime rate and a 18% increase in the number of students scoring at the highest level on standardized math and English tests compared to low-income communities with fewer cultural resources. Study authors wrote: We might expect culture to exhibit the strongest relationship with social wellbeing in neighborhoods with the largest number of cultural assets, but this is not the case. We’ve found the most consistent relationships between culture and dimensions of social wellbeing in lower-income neighborhoods that, on average, have fewer cultural resources. Although cultural resources can be beneficial, an opportunity gap leaves low-income individuals less likely to have access to them than their wealthier peers. University of Pennsylvania researchers found resources are not equally distributed across New York City and tend to be clustered in wealthier neighborhoods, following patterns of "social class, racial and ethnic inequality.”

Communication A huge group of people that benefits from kiosks is those who do not speak the native language of the area they are in. Thanks to their dynamic experience, kiosks allow users to customize their experience depending on their language (i.e. language selection). The benefits of offering kiosk technology to ESL customers is huge: not only is there an instant transactional benefit, but in the long run kiosks can create a new level of equality and provide emotional benefits to all involved parties. Kiosks Serve the Underserved and Less Fortunate Kiosks also do a great job at serving the underserved and accommodating the less fortunate. Kiosks can easily be placed in marginalized communities, helping to serve the underserved in an inclusive, go-at-your-own-pace way.

With increasing urbanization of our communities, municipalities are continuously seeking new ways to provide outdoor spaces and activities to residents. Outdoor exercise is an option that for many seems ideal. Outdoor Fitness Parks are capable of serving a diverse range of users, contributing to the overall health of the community, providing such benefits as: •

Providing a free social outlet for exercise, a much needed resource in underserved communities Combatting obesity through well-rounded workout opportunities that can be enjoyed by people of all abilities and fitness levels throughout the community Increasing interest in related community services, such as nutrition education and health screenings Outdoor Fitness Parks located within sight lines of a playground promote active behavior in adult family members, increasing the time spent at the playground, which can help develop a lifelong fitness mindset in children Promoting a sense of pride within neighborhoods where Outdoor Fitness Parks are located Fitness Park owners may qualify for increased grant funding related to obesity prevention/ reduction

Farmers' Market Nutrition Program What is FMNP? The Farmers' Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) provides checks to women, infants and children through the Women, Infants and Children Program (WIC) and to seniors through the Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) for the purchase of locally grown, fresh fruits and vegetables. Fresh fruits and vegetables can be purchased with checks at farmers' markets during the summer and fall. The program runs from June - November 30. Who Benefits from FMNP? FMNP checks enable WIC participants and CSFP seniors to obtain nutritious, fresh produce in addition to the foods WIC and CSFP provide. Approximately 300,000 WIC and CSFP households benefit annually. In 2016, there were 600 farmers' markets operating in New York State and nearly 1,000 farmers participating in the Farmers' Market Nutrition Program. In addition to distributing fresh vegetables and fruits, the FMNP provides nutrition education in a variety of settings. Importance of Fruits and Vegetables Most fruits and vegetables are naturally low in calories and provide essential nutrients and dietary fiber. They may also play a role in preventing certain chronic diseases. The Dietary Guidelines recommend filling half your plate with colorful fruits and vegetables at each meal. The focus of the national fruit and vegetable program, "Fruits & Veggies – More Matters," is to promote improved health through increased consumption of fruits and vegetables.
