Engagement Session Tips What to wear; where to go
Welcome! I’d like to thank you for considering me to document your beautiful day! I’m excited to get to know you and learn about your style and vision for your wedding. Between now and your wedding day we will share some moments together: shooting your engagement session, planning the details of your timeline, and if you choose, a fun glamour or boudoir session for yourself or your future hubby. More than anything, I feel honored to be able to capture images that will not only document the most important day of your lives, but will also, forever tell your love story for generations to come! I’m looking forward to working with you! Sincerely,
About Me
My passion for photography started pretty early. I remember sitting with my grandmother and spending hours looking at our ancestor’s photos and hearing stories about each one of them and feeling a little disappointed that those posed and serious images didn’t really show who they were. I wanted to be able to see their personalities on the photos based on the stories I was hearing and I believe that’s one thing that helped define my photography style. I love to capture and document the spontaneous, sincere and intimate moments happening throughout the wedding day, the different emotions between you and your loved ones and the almost invisible loving gestures that sometimes happen in a split second… Photographs to me are much more than freezing a moment in time. They are images of someone’s beauty and personality told as stories throughout their lives and on a wedding day, it’s documenting the beginning of a new family that’s being created. It’s documenting the emotions shared with family and friends who got together to share this beautiful day with the bride and groom. I feel very privileged to document such a special milestone and having a great relationship with each and every one of my couples is incredibly important to me. It allows me to create a personalized experience for each one, as we get to know each other from the time you chose to have me as your photographer until your actual wedding day. I strive to have my photographs take people back in time and help them relive a day that was filled with joy and happiness… When looking at their photos, I want my couples to remember what they were laughing about at a particular moment, the love being expressed by a simple look or what was being whispered in each other’s ears.. I want those images to bring back the emotions of that special day with your loved ones that will forever tell your story for generations to come.
Once in a while, Right in the middle of an ordinary life, Love gives us a fairy tale.
My Photography Style
A
s a story teller, my goal is to capture your special day as it unfolds from beginning to end. I also believe it’s important to document those moments and emotions throughout the day with a touch of editorial style.
Not to mention, capturing images of all the little details you put so much time and effort into while planning to make you day even more beautiful and personal. Your photos should reflect your personalities while capturing not only the candid moments, but also taking the time to create beautiful images. Whether it’s a classic bridal shot, the couple getting ready surrounded by their loved ones or going to a remote location for creative photos of the bride and groom, I will work with you so we plan the perfect timeline for photos on your wedding day.
Capturing Your Wedding Day
W
eeks before the wedding, I will meet with the bride and groom to go over the timeline for the day.
Based on what type of Collection that was chosen, we will go over the details of where and when my second shooter and I will meet you and how much time we will have for the following: getting ready shots, First Look, formal portraits after the ceremony, bridal party fun photos and bride and groom creative portraits, among many other details. The photography timeline is something very unique and personalized to each individual couple and we will also go over your preference as to how you would like your day captured. Do you prefer a more relaxed and documentary style or would you prefer to schedule some time for beautiful bridal, creative and editorial shots of you and your groom at a special location to the two of you? How about a mix of both? Whatever you decide, I will help you coordinate the day so you have plenty of time for all the photos you need!
Delivering Your Photos
O
nce your wedding photos are ready, I’ll set up a ‘Reveal’ meeting with you for a slideshow viewing. Your high resolution wedding images will also be displayed on your online gallery where you can easily share them with friends and family.
At the meeting, you will have the opportunity to purchase individual prints, canvases, photo books and/or additional products at a discounted rate. All prints and products offered are guaranteed high quality as I only work with high end professional labs. Although your gallery is mainly for sharing, it will also give you access to download your wedding photos directly through the browser without installing any additional software to your computer. Your images are delivered fully edited to you and will be available online for 6 months.
Y
Photo Editing our photos will be delivered on an online gallery and fully edited and ready for you to share online with family and friends.
Having worked with photo editing for over 5 years, I personally go over each image from your wedding and/or engagement session and make any adjustments necessary to deliver the best quality images to you. Adjustments such as color correction, brightness and contrast and special effects like Black & White and Sepia are sometimes applied to make the images stand out.
Signature Edits
S
ignature Edit images are those digitally enhanced to stand out on your wall.
Additional editing such as image manipulation (removing distracting objects or people from the background), adding texture, skin and body retouching, among others, is used to transform your photo into a gorgeous piece of art. This service is available for an additional fee and per request only. It is also included with any large print/ product or canvas orders for wall art. Please contact me for detailed information and additional examples.

Engagement Sessions Is it important to have an engagement session? I love shooting engagement sessions! It’s important because it’s a fun way to get to know my couples and not be tied to a timeline like we are on the wedding day. It gives us the opportunity to get to know each other better and help me learn little details about you and your personalities as well as your style, likes and dislikes. It’s also a great way to get you both comfortable and relaxed in front of me and my camera before the wedding. Where should we have our engagement session? For locations, I would suggest starting with some place that is significant in meaning to the two of you and your relationship together. Did you meet in a library? Do you love camping or going to the movies? Football fans? Do you play any instruments? The location could also reflect your style. A city would give you more of an urban and chic feel while a beautiful park or a flower conservatory shows more of your romantic side. For a rustic or grunge type of look, old buildings and graffiti walls can also be a very cool location. If you are unsure, I can definitely make suggestions based on your personalities and the type of look and feel you are looking for. The important thing is that we are able to capture you doing something fun that tells more about who you are. How long will our engagement session be? Sessions are between 1 to 1.5 hours long. An additional hour(s) may be added for a fee if multiple locations or outfit changes are needed and I will help you coordinate and plan the details of your photo shoot.
Hi Lucia, Thank you so much! I absolutely love my engagement pictures! I can’t stop looking at them. You did a wonderful job!! That one with the umbrella reminds me of a scene from a movie, it looks so good! Thanks again! :-) Misty Seemiller
When should we schedule the engagement session? Most of my couples choose to shoot their engagement sessions around four to six months prior to the wedding date. It varies based on what they would like to do with the photos.
What can we do with our engagement images? You can use your photos for ‘Save the Date’ cards, engagement albums, wedding guest signature books, among many others. You can also purchase beautiful edited art work for your walls and customized prints and products from my studio showcasing your engagement images. Personalized design services are available for ‘Save the Date’ and ‘Thank You’ cards/postcards, as well as canvases and large prints. I can design wall art using your favorite song lyric, vows, quotes and poems. Contact me for more details.
First Look
P
lanning a wedding timeline can be stressful when you have so many things crammed into an 8-hour period. One of the most challenging decisions that you will make is whether you should do a First Look.
seconds that you walk down the aisle to really soak in this special moment that you’ve been waiting for so long. And to be able to take the time and say to each other “OMG, we’re getting married!”, it’s priceless; you won’t get the chance to do this during the ceremony.
A First Look it’s when the bride & groom spend some time before the ceremony in a private moment where we get to capture the intimacy of them seeing each other for the first time on their wedding day.
You can also determine the energy around you, whether you want to make it very intimate, just the two of you, or you can have the bridal party surround you, which can be very energetic and cheerful, as opposed to seeing each other for the first time at the ceremony, where you have no control over lighting and everything else around you.
A lot of couples choose not to do it because of their tradition and family expectations; they want to have the moment when the bride walks down the aisle and sees the groom for the first time, and that’s totally fine. If that’s your decision and you feel good about it, that’s all it matters because in the end, it is your special day and only you know what you want. However, whenever I am asked for my professional opinion, I recommend the First Look. Here are a few reasons why: •
Doing a First Look 30 minutes to an hour before the ceremony will free up some time for bride and groom portraits and once you’re done, you can enjoy your cocktail hour without having to worry about missing out on mingling with your lovely guests. And as a result, I can get more candid photos as well.
•
Control - First Looks can be done anywhere. You have the option to choose the backdrop/scenery and lighting.
•
More time - You have more time than just the 60
Typically, we’ll scout out a spot that is remote and away from guests. Then we’ll lead the groom over to wait anxiously for his bride to tap him on the shoulder so he can turn around and see her in her glorious beauty, share true and intimate emotions, and admire who he is about to walk down the aisle with. Not only does this make for some amazing memories and photos, but you get to share in a private moment just between the two of you! By having a First Look, you are basically adding more time for those magazine bridal portraits you like, and for more candid and fun pictures with your bridal party and family. Since you already had your pictures taken, you can actually enjoy your cocktail hour, which means that both of you can eat, and be happy. If you are not having a private cocktail hour, you can greet and mingle with your guests. This is such a great time for candid and photojournalistic pictures.
Bridal Session I always do my absolute best to give you amazing images no matter the weather or how restricted your timeline is on your wedding day. However, some couples choose to have a Post Session simply because they had something specific in mind for their wedding portraits that wasn’t possible to achieve on their day. Below are just a few examples for when to consider a Post Session: - Location: Sometimes the perfect location the bride and groom have in mind for their portraits is simply too far to travel to between the ceremony and reception due to a very tight timeline. - Weather: I have taken some awesome photos in the rain and they are not only fun, but unique and beautiful, however, some couples prefer to have their portraits done on a bright sunny day for photos with a very airly and light look. - Time of the day: When your wedding is at night and you choose not to have a First Look, we can still capture amazing night portraits after your ceremony. However, some couples prefer to have their creative portraits taken during the day at their favorite chosen location. - Unique Idea: This would apply for ideas or locations that, on any given wedding day, would most likely get your wedding dress a little dirty. It could be going to a remote location such as a ruin, a lake, river or beach or it could be something like taking photos on a horse wearing your wedding dress or portraits done with your favorite pets. A Post Session can be scheduled for any time after your wedding for an additional fee and it will include your digital image files. If this type of photo shoot or perhaps a Boudoir session would interest you (something very popular with my brides as well), I’d be happy to schedule a consultation to go over the details of each one. Examples of some of my Boudoir work are available upon request.
Personalized Canvas Designs & Prints
T
his is one of my most popular requests. The idea to personalize a canvas came to me when I decided that I wanted my wedding vows on a favorite photo of my husband and I.
From then on, I started designing them for my clients and it quickly grew into also designing vows, favorite quotes, poems and song lyrics not only onto canvases, but large photo prints as wall art. Each design is unique, fully personalized and if needed, retouched to eliminate any distracting backgrounds or to give it a special effect. My design services also include personalized ‘Thank You’ and ‘Save the Date’ cards, among many others. Save the Date Cards
Kind Words from Clients Tawni & Dan Lucia was wonderful to work with. She made my husband and I feel comfortable every step of the way. Starting with the engagement shoot, then all the wedding photos and for me, the bride, the boudoir shoot-each step of the way we had a blast. The photos turned out incredible and I am so happy we chose to go with her. Friends and family are always commenting on how wonderful our photos are. Lucia went above and beyond what most photographers do, she actually cares about you and wants to know about you as an individual and as a couple in order to produce quality photos and create a relationship. She somehow knows how to capture your personalities in the photos and creates something unique for each couple.
Diana & Josh Lucia is so wonderful to work with! I loved that our package included an engagement session so that she could get to know us as a couple, our preferred styles, what we were comfortable with, etc. She is also great about setting up time to talk both before the engagement session and the wedding to work out the logistics and talk through what you want in regard to photos. Lucia is such a sweet person and makes the experience so personal. From little surprises in the mail, to her professional yet approachable way of running her business, to her contagiously happy demeanor, Lucia is a fantastic option for your wedding-related photography! ~ Diana Avart
I highly recommend Lucia and will be telling any friends or family about her when needing a photographer. Thank you Lucia for being so great in every way! We love all our photos! ~ Tawni & Dan Rachel & Sean We found Lucia on Facebook and decided to give her a try. After contacting her we met a few days later and after an hour of sitting talking and laughing with her we knew she was the photographer we wanted. Lucia made everything so easy on us it was more like hanging out with an old friend, she made both of us feel so comfortable. Leading up to our wedding we met with Lucia once for an engagement sessiont. We had so much fun that morning taking pictures and laughing. The day of our wedding Lucia was
amazing she was at our venue all day taking pictures and had so many original ideas. When it came time to do our formal pictures she took control and got everything done so quickly and efficiently but never felt rushed. She took some great shots through out the night of everyone enjoying themselves. We had such a great experience with Lucia and couldn’t be happier with our pictures. We would definitely recommend her to anyone looking for a photographer and can’t wait to work with her again in the future. ~ Rachel Conley
Kind Words from Clients Alaina & Rob My husband and I loved working with Lucia! She was always looking for that “next great shot” and had tons of ideas. We did an engagement session with her and were truly impressed with our pictures so I knew our wedding photos would be in great hands. She was open to taking any pictures I wanted, but also suggested ideas and what she thought would look best. We trusted that anything she photographed would turn out beautiful. She was easy to work with, had a fun personality and a way of making you feel at ease in front of the camera. It rained buckets on our wedding day and I was really worried that we wouldn’t get any nice shots, but Lucia totally took advantage of the rain and came up with some AMAZING photographs! Our friends and family honestly couldn’t stop talking about how much they loved our photos! Thank you SO much Lucia! ~ Alaina Milnes Danielle & Reece Hi Lucia, We absolutely LOVE the photos.
