A Short History of UV-C Technology In 1878, Arthur Downes and Thomas P. Blunt published a paper describing the sterilisation of bacteria exposed to shortwavelength light.

Commercial UV-C germicidal lamps were developed during the 1930s. They were used primarily in hospitals.

The 1903 Nobel Prize for Medicine was awarded to Niels Finsen for his use of UV as a germicidal agent.

What Is UV Lighting? Like infrared light, ultraviolet (UV) is ever present but undetectable to the human eye. Different Micro-organisms are eliminated at different levels of UVC exposure. For example Boston University's National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories "found that a dose of 5 mJ/cm2 resulted in “a reduction of the SARS-CoV-2 virus of 99% in 6 seconds.” [10]

UVC works on the principle of Time*Intensity*Distance - as can be seen by our calculator on elimination levels of 31 common microorganisms. Once the variables are known our calculator produces a chart (below) that illustrates % disinfection from the direction of the UVC luminaire. Sound Alarm

Every UVC light is fitted with highly sensitive motion detection sensors. They sensor detects mass density and shut off the UVC before any person can come into contact with the light. If no mass density is detected after 30 seconds the disinfection process will restart.

Once the UVC lamp is activated a sound alarm is set in motion. The length of the time that the alarm will sound for can be set to different times to allow for the space to clear completely before the disinfection process begins.
