Now that rich landowners in Parliament had a say in the making of the laws, how would you expect these changes to affect punishment, trials and policing? LO’: to examine and assess the impact of these changes through a real medieval murder.

A case study • He ran a successful gang of thieves and was one of the most successful policemen in the country. • Wild kept the goods his gang stole, waited for the newspapers to report the crime then claimed that his ‘agents’ had recovered the stolen items. He would return these goods for a reward. • He also ‘caught’ thieves - rivals, or members of his own gang who had refused to obey him. • His popularity collapsed when his criminal finally exposed.
