HAVANA UNDERGROUND MODERN REVOLUTION IN CITY PERCEPTION SPRING 2018

My thesis project is located in Cuba in Havana where I have spent 3 weeks participating at 9th Caribbean WinterSchool. The aim of WinterSchool was to discus new design strategies for district completion in teams of European and Cuban students. The programme of this workshop offered for the students to experience the city, talk with local citizens and find out their expectations for a future development. The design process has been supervised by international architectural tutors and in the end each team of students has proposed their own design solution for the chosen site. Havana is beautiful yet complicated city with thrilling history giving it extraordinary lifestyle, incredibly lively culture opens to social interactions forming strong community. The city is south-after to experience this daily street festivals filled with music and dance. Thanks to the tropical climate local people are used to live outside mainly in shadows from trees and buildings. Because of its colonisation history the city is not created for this lifestyle and although the locals are trying to find the way to adapt to it, the city needs radical change in building environment. Havana is facing economical and sociological crisis. In consequence, the population is supposed to increase in the city which needs renewal of the built environment to accommodate those changes. I have taken the scheme from Caribbean WinterSchool and kept developing it as possible solution for Havana’s issues. I am introducing the design scheme as precedent to demonstrate considerate environmental friendly design exposing the sustainable strategy to local people. This sustainable urban design is enhancing lifestyle for citizens in much greater area than just the site itself. It is an example for future developments to make Havana self-sufficient city for first time in its history.

FAMILY HOUSE AT LIPNO LAKE SPRING 2017

CYCLE PATH SOLVED PLOT BLOCK B - LIPNO ZÁPAD

CHURCH ST. FILIPA A JAKUBA

This is the Bachelor thesis for Architecture and Civil Engineering department at CTU in Prague. The task as to design the family house on given plot next to the Lipno lake and complete the documentation for building permit. The plot is in forest with private access to the lake 5 km far away from nearest village Lipno nad Vltavou. The sloping terrain gave us opportunity for creative layout. The concept of design came from effective use of the terrain and creating attractive view to the lake. Building is designed to enable the most possible openings to the surrounded nature and contacts with terrain. The building is divided into several parts according to its function. In the basement we can find the private part with large terrace next to the bedrooms. And in the first floor we find ourselves on the console above lower terrace which empowers the view to the other bank of the lake. Garage is set back as indirect division of masses.

GALLERY OF THE PILSEN CITY PROPOSAL AUTUMN 2016

This gallery complex is located on the corner of Americká street and Denisovo nábřeží in Pilsen, Czech Republic. I have choosen this plot because it is nice area in the city centeŕ but it is empty now. There used to be Culture House from communist era and it was demolished recently. The plan was to build there another huge shopping center against which local people wrote referendum and won so the shopping center cannot be build but now this plot has no developer and it is empty behind the fence.I knew I want to renew life there so the choice of culture complex was clear. I have decided to build here gallery complex because there is no large gallery in Pilsen. Whole building is inspired by the river nearby and has the wave concept. You are entering the gallery on the groundfloor and go by ramp to the basement like you would be swept by the wave and you swim out again on the groundfloor but in the another building. And having the most of space underground is also because after demolishing the Culture House there has left deep excavation ready for the basement now. This gallery has also secondary use, you can find there conference rooms which can be used for gallery need or individually. One of them could be used also as an alternative cinema or lecture hall. And next to gallery is another building offering restaurant, shops and boutiques. This part replaces the old shopping pasage in the former Culture House. Around whole complex is huge green park offering a lot of seats and atractions for children.

MULTISTOREY BUILDING, SONDERBROGADE, HORSENS AUTUMN 2015

The multistorey building is located in Sonderbrogade in Horsens. It has 4 floors and basement. On the groundfloor we have commercial area (216 m2) with offices, conference room, common room with lunch room and cafe. The rest of the building is residential with subsidised area. We have two types of apartments: 9 of two room apartments (64-83 m2) and 8 of three room apartments (94,5-111,5 m2). Apartments have variety layouts and are adaptable to different tenants. Each of them has balcony. On the ground floor apartments are elevated what gives them more privacy. The top floor is set back what allows us to create spacious balconies with nice view. The loadbearing stucture is from prefbricated concrete walls and concrete slabs. We use prefabricated brick facade elements and triple glazed curtain walls to allow light comes into apartments. In the interior we use wood as the warm and nice material. In the basement we have storages, service room, laundry room and parking for bikes. Car parking is on the groundfloor. The rest of the plot is used as park to attract other people inside this block of flats. Park also connects the church which was a bit separated before. It makes nice environment for people from surrounded buildings and place to meet. Our goal is to improve living standart in the district and create a community.

SUSTAINABLE REFURBISHMENT AND CONVERSION, MIMERSGADE, HORSENS SPRING 2015

This project was team work, in our group was 4 international students: Lucie Linderova (Czech), Radoslaw Stanko (Polish), Alba Fernandez Arias (Spanish), Tadas Semenas (Lithuanian). The goal was refurbish social housing development Mimersgade from 50´s. Buildings had a lot of problems with moisture, cracking, sound and thermal proofing. The purpose of this project is to provide a better living place for tenants. Therefore we suggested changes in both urban, architectural and interior scale with strong contribution to sustainable development and maintenance. The project focus is to create multi-functional natural areas and variety of rental structure. We suggest building an extension in order to make the public areas more cosy, provide common rooms, office, boutiques as well as increase the apartment number. We decided to use cross laminated wood for extension structural system and recycled steel to reinforce some parts of existing walls. The insulation layer is putted on the inside face of existing wall. We want to pay respect to existing building and keep the red brick façade as it has strong connection to both local context and Danish architectural heritage. The project cost for H-block buildings is around 13 million dkr,- with both demolition part and new construction part.

SUMMER CINEMA AND RESTAURANT, PRAGUE 2 AUTUMN 2014

Project is located next to bank of river in the centre of Prague. This bank is used for cultural events, market etc. so we want to continue and revitalizate this area. Now the area is used as temporary summer cinema. The inspiration for this project was railway bridge rising up to the river. I put restaurant into that space which creates roof partly for cinema also so we can project movies even in unpleasant weather. The building is orientate by view to Vyšehrad castle and old Prague. Paths preserve that direction, the perpendcularity also reflect to industrial surrounding which support whole concept. And as constrast to this geometrical parter the main communication next to water continues with natural rounder shape path supportinh harmony of water. The building is divided by function to restaurant, summer cinema and facitities. Restaurant is with view to river with bridge and castle so one side is full glazed, in contrast the other side of building is solved inconspicously. Restaurant has capacity 50 places and summer cinema 120 people. Parking place is longitudinal next to road.
