welcome

W

hatever your role in student media, you’ve helped put together one of the most successful and memorable years in Cardiff Student Media’s history. You are one of over 700 students who make content that is read, heard, watched and enjoyed by the students at Cardiff University. Cardiff Student Media is without a doubt the best opportunity for any Cardiff student who wants to go into the media industry, wants to get some practical experience in print media, TV or radio, or who just wants to meet amazing friends and like minded-people. Tonight is all about your achievements this year – celebrating the best in student media and the hundreds of hours that you’ve put into creating some of the fantastic content this year. But this year is more special than ever. We’ve moved into our 40th year of student media, reached over 1000 issues of gair rhydd, created one of the best looking Quench magazines that Cardiff has ever seen and smashed records for CUTV and Xpress with both being

recognised on a national level. We have come a long way from October 1972 when the first gair rhydd was published with Xpress added in 1996, Quench being formed in 2003 and the baby of the group - CUTV – created in 2007. But before the excessive drinking begins, a few thanks… In no particular order I need to thank: Tracey and the tech team for their amazing work at bringing this event together, Elaine for constantly being there and helping student media to survive (without her, CSM would be lost!). Jo Southerd, Laura Evans, Hannah Cook, Ed Lecorgne and Sophie Gregory for putting up with me for the past year and dealing with the constant meetings – you’ve made this year the best it possibly could be and I can’t thank you enough. And finally, a soppy thanks to all of you reading this. Without the dedication of people like you, CSM would probably not exist. Chris Williams Head of Student Media
