Information about our Tutors Mike Keane Mike has been delivering the CIPS qualification for over 20 years. In addition to purchasing experience, he holds a first degree and master’s degree in law and a postgraduate teaching qualification. He has been a CIPS Chief Examiner and Senior Assessor for over 10 years.
Lucy Addison Lucy began her career in Procurement in the public sector with a specific focus on e-procurement, driving efficiencies and streamlining processes. She also has experience in the private sector in sourcing, contract negotiation and project management roles. Lucy has an honours degree, holds a postgraduate teaching qualification, and is MCIPS qualified, during her studies for which she received the award for highest CIPS marks in the county. Lucy is also an assessor for CIPS on the foundation diploma negotiation module.
Mark recently joined the Business School after 25 years working at the most senior levels in FTSE top 100 and DJ30 companies. Marks past roles include Managing Director & Chief Operating Officer, current roles include two Non-Executive Directorships and Mark sits on a number of private equity advisory investment councils with top UK and US banks including Goldman Sachs, LDC, Warburg Pincus and Barclays. Mark has been awarded a DBA, MBA and Fellowship with the Institute of Directors and the Chartered Institute of Management.
Kevin Keigher Kevin specialises in the management and leadership aspects of the course. He has wide commercial experience in sales and leisure industries. He holds a business degree, an MBA and a postgraduate teaching qualification. His previous roles have included Business Development Manager and CIPS Programme Manager at the University of Derby and he has significant experience of delivering the CIPS programme.

Introductory Course Introductory Certificate in Procurement (Level 2)
This is the ideal course if you’re just starting your career in procurement or if purchasing is part of your role. It will enable you to recognise and describe the key processes in procurement and build your professional knowledge and competence. You don’t need any prior experience or qualifications to start your studies at this stage. This course should be seen as the pre-cursor to CIPS Levels 3 and/or 4. There are no entry requirements for this level however an interest in procurement and supply would be an advantage. This new Level 2 Introductory Certificate has been designed to aid anyone who would like to develop and improve their skills in the workplace. This certificate benefits not only the individual but also the company; it could mean cost savings and quality improvements in the workplace. The course is primarily aimed at students who wish to start on the procurement and supply career ladder or those who have just started and want to improve their knowledge. The course covers a number of different elements including the role and scope of purchasing, systems and procedures in purchasing, working with suppliers and legal aspects of procurement such as contracting. The course will be delivered over three separate days (usually fridays) from 9.30am - 4.30pm. £299 per person. This course is not accredited by CIPS and therefore attendees will receive a Blackburn College Introductory Certificate in Procurement
CIPS Level 3 Advanced Certificate in Procurement & Supply Operations
This qualification is designed for those in an operational procurement role who need the capability to carry out procurement and supply tasks. The Advanced certificate in procurement and supply operations consists of five compulsory units. • • • • •

CIPS Level 4 Foundation Diploma in Procurement & Supply Operations
This qualification is the normal entry level for graduates or for those with substantial procurement experience. Many people, who have previous business experience or qualifications, commence their CIPS studies with this qualification. The aims of the course are to provide insight into best practice, develop decision making skills and provide a broad-based education in business relating to the profession. The foundation diploma consists of five modules which are examinable at various times of the year. This qualification is seen as a valuable management tool for those moving into junior and middle management procurement roles or those supervising the procurement function. It focuses on how organisational procedures and processes perform in procurement and supply, including negotiating, planning, risk management and data analysis. Evening or afternoon delivery for this qualification, modules are as follows: • • • • •

This qualification in Purchasing and Supply is for those who have already completed the Level 4 Foundation Diploma and now wish to progress on to further study or learn in more depth about the issues and theories surrounding Purchasing and Supply. The advanced diploma consists of five modules. This qualification provides senior buyers, contract and supply chain managers with the expertise to improve organisational procurement and to fulfil organisational objectives. It provides the knowledge base to reduce cost, improve quality, manage the supply chain and deal with legal issues. This qualification aims to build on level 4 with a view to progression into a managerial or specialist role. You’ll be provided with practical and theoretical understanding of the issues affecting business and the Purchasing and Supply chain function in both public and private sector industries. Evening or afternoon delivery for this qualification, modules are as follows: • • • • •

CIPS Level 6 Professional Diploma in Procurement & Supply
This qualification is the highest level of CIPS qualification available. Aimed at senior procurement professionals and heads of department, it is targeted at building strategic procurement competence, giving managers the ability to formulate strategic direction and advice in terms of change management, stakeholder management and team leadership. Successful completion of this level enables students to use the prestigious suffix MCIPS after their name to demonstrate their completion of CIPS studies at the highest level. The professional diploma consists of five modules.

CIPS FOUNDATION UK BURSARY: For those in the UK undergoing hardship. A £1,000 bursary awarded to UK students in the most need of aid, intended to help UK students who are struggling to fund/take CIPS qualifications due to personal hardship. The funds for this bursary will be paid on to the grantee’s CIPS account. It can be used towards any CIPS product, and can also be used to pay any venue fees the grantee faces at CIPS approved exam centres. For more information see:
