The Cost Of Affordables responds to the 2021 ISTD (International Society of Typographic Designers) brief, which asks 'what can a typographer do to address the imbalance, to harness, shape and organise words in service of breaking barriers?'
TCOA is a multifaceted project comprising of a campaign strategy & an accompanying (two-part) publication. Aiming to educate the public on the concealed expense of spending less in a distinctly cheap industry — the health of fast-fashion garment workers — the project explores the idea that if it doesn't cost you, it's costing her.
The publication includes data-visualisations that communicate the overwhelming loss of human life that the fast-fashion industry has suffered over a recent twenty-five year period, as well as the rankings of offending brands according to their worker empowerment practices.
