the cocktail is a diverse and ever changing devise which expresses creativity and class, having evolved from the prohibition era old-fashioned to the 70’s craze of sex on the beach. this book will show you how to create a selection of classic and inspired cocktails, while also teaching you the fundamentals of cocktail making to enable you to concoct your own beautiful and delicious drinks.
Techniques
Cocktails
are synonymous with style and sophistication, so to make your own creations pristine and elegant you should learn some classic techniques.
to muddle, crush fruit and herbs with your muddler. This is important in releasing the full flavour and fragrance. -use with mojitos and caipirinhias.
Shaking is a cocktail essential for creating cool and well combined drinks. It also helps with correctly diluting the cocktails. -use with most drinks
Stirring is a classic technique for creating the perfect martini and it is also useful for combining mojitos and caipirihnias with crushed ice. -use with martinis, mojitos and caiprinhas
Garnishing
Cocktail garnishes are ornaments or arrangements which add character and style to your mixed drinks. the garnish is important because it will add an extra flavour dimension - smell is just as important as look.
For your garnish, use something that harks to the ingredients that are actually in the drink- mint in a grass hopper, lime in a margarita- so that the drinker will get a little extra flavour boost.
Use the press out cocktail sticks included in the book to create combinations of fruit to garnish your drink. Also included in the book are push out glass labels and a pop out shot glass. Additional pop out recipes for some of the staple cocktails are included for your convenience.
French Martini
the french martini should be, like in James Bond, ‘shaken, not stirred’ to create a foam with the pineapple juice. layer the chambord to create a more sophisticated effect.
Ingredients 35ml Vodka 15ml Chambord 50ml Pineapple Juice Method Shake the vodka and pineapple juice and double strain into a chilled martini glass. Add the Chambord using a slow pourer to create a layered effect. Garnish with a fresh raspberry.
Bison Grass Martini
bison grass vodka is a polish creation with vanilla and almond tones, and is complimented especially well by apple juice. this cucumber and lychee creation is fresh and sweet and best served ice cold.

Muddle
the cucumber with the spirits. Shake together with juice and double strain into chilled martini glass. Garnish with cucumber wheel.
Classic Martini (Gin/Vodka)
Ingredients
50ml Gin/Vodka 15ml Vermouth Method Stir ice and vermouth. for a dry martini pour away the vermouth, for a wet martini leave vermouth in. Stir again with the spirit included. Garnish with lemon twist or olive.
Cosmopolitan
the cosmo is a classic fruity and light cocktail popularised by Sex and The City and Madonna, and is a particularly sumptuous and glamorous drink.
Ingredients
35ml Vodka 15ml Triple Sec 50ml Cranberry Juice Method Shake all ingredients and double strain into chilled martini glass. Garnish with flamed orange slice.
Fantabulous The fantabulous is inspired
by the cosmo but has sweeter tones with a minty edge. vanilla and mint are used to add a unique flavour combination.
Ingredients 35ml Vodka 15ml Triple Sec 50ml Cranberry Juice 15ml Vanilla Syrup Mint Sprig Method Shake all ingredients and double strain into chilled martini glass. Garnish with mint sprig.
Frozen Margarita for an extra zingy addition, rub lime on the rim of your margarita glass and dust with salt.

Method
Blend all ingredients with crushed ice and pour into salt rimmed margarita glass. Garnish with lime wheel.
Melon Margarita a great twist on the classic margarita, best served with a sugar rim to add further sweetness.

Strawberry Daiquiri
The Daiquiri is a simple mix of rum and sweet/sour combinations. The frozen strawberry daiquiri is a girly, fruity and summery take on a staple cocktail.

50ml Bacardi 15ml Strawberry Syrup 15ml Lime Juice 3 Fresh Strawberries Method Blend all ingredients with crushed ice and pour into hurricane glass. Garnish with fresh strawberry.
Bubblegum Daiquiri Garnish the bubblegum daiquiri with bubblegum balls or hundreds and thousands for a more playful finish.

50ml Bacardi 35ml Bubblegum Syrup 15ml Lime Juice Method Blend all ingredients with crushed ice and pour into hurricane glass. Garnish with lime wedge and bubblegum ball.
Classic Mojito
Created in Cuba, the mojito is classicly refreshing and can be adapted to incorporate multiple flavour combinations.
Ingredients
50ml Bacardi Fresh Lime Brown Sugar Mint
Method Muddle equal parts lime and sugar,then add spirit, mint and crushed ice and stir vigorously. Pour into a tall sling glass and garnish with a mint sprig.
Strawberry Mojito
Ingredients
50ml Bacardi 15ml Strawberry Syrup 3 Fresh Strawberries Fresh Lime Brown Sugar Mint Method Muddle equal parts lime,sugar and fruit, add syrup, mint and crushed ice and stir vigorously. Garnish with mint sprig & strawberry.
Caipirihnia
the Caipirihnia is Brazils national cocktail and is based on the sugar cane liqueur Cachaรงa. The cocktail is said to have originated as a remedy for Spanish Flu, but is really tasty!
Ingredients 50ml Cachaca Fresh Lime Brown Sugar
Method Muddle equal parts lime and sugar, then add Cachaca and crushed ice and stir vigorously. Pour into a large rocks glass and garnish with a lime wedge.
Strawberry Caipirihnia
A fruitier version, the strawberry Caipirihnia combines strawberries, lime, sugar and cachaรงa to create a harmoniously balanced mixed drink.

50ml Cachaca Fresh Lime Brown Sugar 3 Fresh Strawberries Method Muddle equal parts lime and sugar with the strawberries, then add Cachaca and crushed ice and stir vigorously. Pour into a large rocks glass and garnish with a strawberry.
Amaretto Sour
smooth and sweet, with a mild kick, the amaretto sour is a classic variation on the whiskey sour.

50ml Amaretto 15ml Lemon Juice 15ml Sugar Syrup Dash Bitters Method Shake all ingredients and strain into a large rocks glass. Garnish with lemon wedge and glacier cherry.
Grasshopper
Save this one for after dinner! The grasshopper is minty but sweet and was popularised in the 1950’s after prohibition. mix with icecream to create an amazing dessert.

15ml Creme De Cacao Light 35ml Creme De Menthe 25ml Milk 25ml Double Cream Method Shake all ingredients gently and double strain into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with a mint sprig.
Crazy In Love
Champagne cocktails scream gorgeous glamour and you should save these for those extra special occaisons. The Crazy in Love is sweet and tart and perfect for a cocktail party.
Ingredients
15ml Raspberry Stoli 125ml Champagne Method Combine all ingredients in a chilled champagne flute and garnish with a fresh strawberry.
Elderbubble
The elderbubble calls for that classic pairing of hendricks and cucumber. adding champagne to this can only result in good things, and this drink is very good.

15ml Hendricks Gin 125ml Champagne Diced Cucumber Method Combine all ingredients in a chilled champagne flute and garnish with a cucumber wheel.
Take It Sloe Honey
Sloe gin is a particularly aromatic spirit and is combined beautifully with honey and champagne in this cocktail.

15ml Sloe Gin Drizzle Honey 125ml Champagne Method Combine all ingredients in a chilled champagne flute and stir well to combine the honey. serve bubbling!
Creating Your Own
Now you know some classic and inspired cocktail recipes, why not try inventing your own? just stick to some simple rules and you could make some gorgeous drinks.
SWEET & SOUR -in all good cocktails there is a balance. There’s the base spirit (your vodka or rum, etc) and then there’s your sweet and your sour. its simple, but the combina tion of these can make or break a cocktail. KEEP SIMPLE
dont try combining too many different ingredients- pick a spirit you love and add a couple of flavours. try muddling or crushing fruit and mint to get deeper aromas and flavours.
