ARTIST GUIDE TO
The New Additions Having first released the original collection in 2019, the initial inspiration was based on the fond memories I have of my childhood in Teesside and the North East. I spent lots of time with my family going to different places and enjoyed the vastly different landscapes that were in such close proximity to each other yet felt worlds apart. From the dreamy and dramatic coast lines of Northumberland, to the vibrant city of Newcastle, I loved the contrast between city and surf within one region. This juxtaposition is explored again in Teesside with the major industry taking a backseat to the local countryside surroundings of Roseberry Topping. Local landmarks take centre stage in this collection with steel and stone as primary materials of the Angel of the North, Tyne Bridge, Bamburgh Castle, Yarm Viaduct and the Transporter Bridge. The North has always had such a strong sense-of-self and industrial identity which is expressed in ‘Steel River’, it was important for me to showcase this magnificent dominating landmark. The two new additions to this collection continue to explore Northern landmarks with the Transporter Bridge featuring again but departing from my usual style and instead taking a horizons style view of the landscape . The colourful hues of the beach huts at Saltburn and the famous tram is one of my favourite views as you look out towards the cliffs. The collection as a whole symbolises my long-standing passion for a region diverse in landmarks and history. I hope you enjoy this collection and the two new additions; and that they bring a smile to all those who view them.

SUNRISE STROLL BY THE SEA
Saltburn Nestled along the North East coastline is a quaint Victorian seaside town and surfer’s paradise, named Saltburn by the Sea. Known for its Pier, colourful beach huts and dramatic cliffs, Saltburn also has the oldest operational water balanced cliff tramway (funicular) in Britain, linking the town with the pier and promenade 120 feet below. This is a place I have visited from being a young child and continue to visit to this day. Saltburn holds a lot of dear memories and I enjoy seeing others enjoy this beautiful part of the North East as much as I do.

A SYMBOL OF STRENGTH
Transporter Bridge The Tees Transporter Bridge has been an iconic symbol of Teesside's engineering and industrial heritage since 1911. A historic and eye-catching local landmark proudly sitting over the River Tees. It’s the longest working transporter bridge in the world and can be seen on the landscape for miles around. Inspired by a photograph, I wanted to capture the bridge in all its sun-soaked glory with the stunning jewelled sky as it’s backdrop.

OWNING A LUCY PITTAWAY
Original QUALITY From the materials used throughout the creative process, to the finishing stages of framing and glass selection, a Lucy Pittaway original exudes quality. Each original is created using hand-made soft pastels. Produced by Unison Colour in Northumberland, these pastels were originally developed by artist John Hersey in the 1980s and provide the level of exquisite colour and texture which Lucy is known for, and the lightfastness of each pastel accommodates Lucy’s vivid and playful creative process. Their longevity is a promise to Lucy, and her buyers, that artworks will remain bold and beautiful over time. Original works are framed by our trusted and experienced framer here in Yorkshire. Frames are chosen specifically for each piece to showcase the quality and character of the original. Lakes Collection original pieces include a black bevelled frame and museum quality glass for added protection. Museum quality glass means your original is protected, whilst also reducing any potential glare. It possesses a special coating that eliminates UV light that can cause fading. This means your picture keeps its vibrancy long-term, and the artwork will display without interference.
