note from the editor I feel like this issue is the first one to have so much variety of models, which I am super excited about! Our cover was shot by Edward Aninaru, one of my favorite photographers; he is based in L.A.

I want to tell you, reader, that you are beautiful, kind, smart and worth it! I hope your parents love you and accept you just the way you are; and if not, please know you are not alone and we will be okay.

It is time to love and accept ourselves, the way our parents should have but didn’t. Bug hugs your way!

We are now accepting editorials for our June Fashion & Beauty Print Issue.

jade weber cover girl

by edward aninaru

Interview with

JADE WEBER by SUMMER LEE @summerannelee

Meet Jade Weber, this month’s covergirl - as well as the previous! At only thirteen years old, Jade has built an extremely impressive career in both modeling and acting. She is represented by agencies in Los Angeles, Italy, and The Netherlands, and has starred in ad campaigns for many iconic brands, including Guess, Nordstrom, and Levi’s. Since she began acting in a young actor’s conservatory called “The Playground” in Los Angeles, Jade’s acting career is also off to a jump start. She has starred in several music videos, the television comedy “Keys”, and will star in “The Game of the Cheetah” and “La Déesse du Crépuscule” in 2019. Through her talent and passion, Jade is establishing her own unique image in the industry.

Q: You were discovered at the age of only nine! Have you always loved being in front of the camera?

A: I don’t really remember my thoughts on being in front of a camera before I was nine, but right now I know that I love the camera. I do remember always jumping into videos on Christmas morning, for example. I also know that when I was six, I asked Santa for a camera and a suitcase to travel. I also love photo bombing! In modeling, a photographer is taking a picture of you and you are styled, but the rest is your choice of what you want to do in front of the camera which is what I love about my job. You have to be in the mood, and feel the clothes in order to play with them and your own physical features! Q: You’ve acted in television commercials, music videos, and now three movies! What is it about acting that fulfills you?

A: It takes quite a bit of time to really get in a character, especially if they are not like you at all. When you think about it, the most interesting part is being able to play different characters in different situations, but you’re one individual, an actor. But, when I’m on the other side of the screen and I watch a character that I love in a movie pass away, it touches me as if I met them. In general, this is just showing how strong acting can be. It’s all created by one person, and is just another perspective as the audience of how I see acting. I think it’s really cool to see both sides as an actor and as the audience. Q: How does your love for acting influence your modeling?

A: To me, modeling and acting are different things, but in my head, somehow they are connected. Maybe because in both I’m in front of a camera. In modeling, it’s about how you look, but in acting, it’s not about me - it’s about the character that is coming to life, and my acting partner. A trick I use in modeling that can relate to acting: when I’m clueless on what to do with my face or my body is, I give myself an emotion, try to feel it, and it will show on my face. It can also influence what I would do if I had that emotion, as in actions, and just move around. In acting and modeling they are both telling stories through the lens of a camera. Q: Who are some inspiring actresses or models that inspire you?

A: One model that inspires me is Gigi Hadid. I am inspired by a lot of actresses, including Jennifer Lawrence, Emma Watson, and Millie Bobby Brown. I am especially inspired by actresses who have played very funny roles in comedies, such as Jennifer Aniston, Cameron Diaz, Anne Hathaway, and Amy Schumer.

Q: Your parents are French natives! Have you ever been to France?

A: Yes, I have! I haven’t been there in about 4 years. I love it there! There is snow in the winter, sun in the summer, amazing fields for Golf, and so much more! I always have such an awesome time there and I absolutely can’t wait to go back! My mom is more from the North, and my Dad from the East. I love going to both areas. I haven’t been to Paris since I was very little, so I definitely want to go back, and maybe live there for a while when I’m older. I also would love to go to the South of France for the first time. Q: For your photoshoots and modeling campaigns. You’re styled in all sorts

of different styles- from gowns to athleisure! How would you define your personal style?

A: My style is teen trendy. I’m kinda all over the place! I love boots, and sneakers - adidas, converse, etc. - the most. As a girl, I love heels but I can’t wear them on a daily basis, because I’m only thirteen. I love jeans, leggings, shorts, (when I can) dresses, casual tops, or off-the-shoulder, rompers, and mostly leather or denim jackets. I love dressing up on occasion, but if not I stay casual. I like to look up some outfits online and match some colors up with the clothes in my closet to expand my creativity so I can get more ideas. I would also want to do hair more often but my hair is too long, and it’s hard to do! But it doesn’t hurt to practice. Even though I stick with the trends, I most importantly stick with my own style. In general, I love shopping! Q: Do you prefer to shoot in location or studio?

A: That is such a hard choice! I think location because you have more props to play with than just a wallpaper. All props in a studio are brought from the outside. There is also natural lighting when you do shoots on location, and there are a variety of choices for lighting, styling, which effects the mood and expression. Q: What are your favorite colors? What do you think it says about you? A: I have four favorite colors: white, blue, green, and light pink.

I stick a lot with the past, and when I was in third grade, I learned a lesson about rainbows and thought that white represented everything. I’m not good at decisions, and never knew what to pick as my favorite color so I chose white, which for me meant I chose everything! Then I said blue, specifically because a lot of people like blue, and the ocean is blue. It’s a long story. Next, I said Green because nature is green, and Earth is nature. Green can also come in such beautiful colors! Last but not least, light pink: I chose this color because to me it’s a very elegant color. I don’t know how to explain it, it’s just too gorgeous! Colors symbolize different emotions and events, so having all these different colors for me means that I have a variety of personalities. Q: What do you hope you’ll be doing when you’re twenty years old?

A: When I’m twenty, I will be in the middle of college. I hope I would’ve filmed in a trilogy or comedy movie by then. I also will possibly be working to be a lawyer as well. I still hope to do a couple photoshoots. I don’t know which college I want to go to yet, but I have enough time to decide. Even when I’m older than that, I hope to live in a city like Paris for a while. Q: What is one thing you’re currently looking forward to?

A: I’m looking forward to the new upcoming projects. I’m very excited! I also might get home-schooled, so I can’t wait to experience something new, and have more time for my career, friends, and be a teen.

Interview with

PingYu Chiu by RAMONA ATKIN

Hello readers! I’m Ping-Yu Chiu from Taiwan, now in San Francisco for a while. I’ve been loving drawing since I was young. My dad is an architect who gave me so much sense of aesthetic and supported me along the way. When I was younger I went to fine arts studio to learn painting, drawing skills, and color theory. At the time I studied BFA of marketing and design in Taiwan, I went to a fashion illustration studio and reached out those in the same field as me. I appreciated that the teacher taught me a lot about drawing skills, creative ideas and how to catch people’s fashion feeling. After finishing BFA of marketing and design I came to Academy of Art University in San Francisco to open new horizons and explore Illustration. I learned a lot from attending school and made sure that I wanted to become a fashion illustrator. Now I’m focusing on fashion illustration for the fashion and advertising industries with expertise in conceptualizing, designing artwork for marketing campaigns, fashion magazines, and digital/print publications. Thank you LUCY’S for the interview, enjoy!

Q. What inspires you?

A. I think every life experience can inspire me; movies, songs, an interaction or communication with people and so on. From sadness to happiness, it’s a big range of moods and emotions. Every single emotion can lead me to a different image with my watercolor brush; every time it turns out differently. Q. Is your art created 100% on the computer or you are actually painting them?

A. I like to create works in watercolor and ink first, scan it to computer and then do little changes or add the brush effects in Photoshop. Q. What is the illustration process - from the beginning until end?

A. At the beginning, I did a lot of research to find the clothes, poses, and the feelings I like to show and explore. Once I know how to present the I see idea in my head clearly, I start to draw! Sometimes, if I have good drawing conditions, I can finish it without taking any breaks. I usually enjoy the process of creating and drawing. However, if I feel tired or my ideas are stuck, I will stop and rest. This helps my productivity and inspiration, then I freshly start my work again. Q. Where are you based?

A. I’m in San Francisco now. Q. What do you like to do in your free time?

A. In my free time I like to do sketches from magazines and find any possibility showing the sense of aesthetic. Also, I like to watch movies because it is the only time I can really relax! Additionally, I like to go window shopping because I like to see all the cool designs on clothes. Of course, who doesnt love eating delicious foods? Food makes me happy as well and it again one of the things I like to explore in my free time. Q. Tell us more about the illustrations above - what do they represend/mean to you?

A. Although I’m too young to have kids, I treat every single piece of illustration as my baby. I love them because I can think of the moments I created them when I see them. They are all unique and special. I like to record my life by drawing, so I can say they represent the every single piece of emotion and experience of my life. They can always remind me of the unique, specific and important life experiences, so I cherish them very much!

Q. How do you pick your models? A. We as a team; myself and the photographer chose the perfect face for what we have planned to do. After seeing a few packages, and checking a few girls’s books, we decide which one will be the best for us. Q. How did you come up with the idea behind this editorial? A. The winter has been very long in Paris. We wanted to shoot something colourful and sweet at the same time. So the idea was to get a cute, sweet editorial inspired from the colours of spring/summer like orange for the fruit, blush or pink for flowers, without making it too obvious. Q. Where are you based? I am based in Paris Q. 3 fun facts about youself: A. I am covered in tattoos, I love doing my makeup heavy while I do it very light at work on my models, I have a little dog named Peanut Q. where do you see yourself in 10 years? A. Well, in 10 years i’d still see myself in the fashion/ beauty industry, I just hope I’ll already have my sanctuary where I could rescue farm animals. Q. Why makeup? When did you realize you love doing makeup? A. I stared by modelling actually. Once I got my makeup done for a magazine cover and I was like; Whaaaat? That’s it! That’s what I wanna do!

Q. Favorite colors? A. I love turquoise and baby pink cause they happy and sweet colours at the same time! Q. Tips for good skin? A. Everyone always looks for a good foundation‌ but the secret is to remove makeup every single day, to clean your skin twice a day and to not forget to moisturize with the right products that fit your skin. Q. What are your favorite products? A. My favorite products are Beauty Flash Balm, Supra Volume Mascara and SOS primer 00 all from Clarins!

It costs just $2.75 to travel from one world to another in New York City. The Cony Island bound Q train stretches out beyond Manhattan’s cluttered streets. As the subway rush hours begin, the golden hour illuminates the sandy edges of Brooklyn. The Velvet Underground blasted from Matt Licari’s speaker, tuning out the crashing waves on Brighton Beach. Alexander Garcia pieced together all white garments from Pinko trousers to Garo Sparo corsets. Each look was paired with statement accessories made for deep v-necklines and open bishop sleeves. Simplicity is refreshing and romantic in the big city. Heavy makeup is unnecessary when Lovecraft Beauty is right around the corner. From the local cosmetic store, Yoshie Kubota applied micellar water infused with aloe, chamomile, and cucumber for a dewy summer glow. It works best when primed with Secret Nature peeling gel from JEJU to gently exfoliate the skin. Mideyah Parker used Girls with Curls hair products to style braids for the season’s brutally humid and blustery days.

Interview with-

Wendy Hope

by RAMONA ATKIN

Q. Tell us a bit about yourself! A. I’m a visual artist with a background in Art History and French. I was raised in a unique, culturally diverse, haunted and fascinating social experiment in the middle of Manhattan and Queens, called Roosevelt Island. Influenced by several creative family members, I was taught to draw and paint when I was a child. This included using my mothers’ bright red nail polish at 3 years old on her freshly painted yellow radiator. I thought it was pretty. Q. How do you pick your models? A. I find myself drawn to faces with unique symmetrical features which is both from learning about facial “real estate” and great canvases for my make up artists to apply our concepts. Model selections are also loosely inspired by the beautiful faces of friends I had growing up. Q. How did you come up with the idea behind this editorial? A. I had been in back to back blizzards in NYC. I escaped and spent February here in LA. I’m always inspired and happy in the sunshine and wanted to find Spring. I’m still looking ;) I referenced the cover of W with the pastel Tulle and had also photographed Kandee Johnson for the 2017 Sinful Colors for a retro color collection using Tulle. I thought colored Tulle could become soft and pretty texture and different from a white background which is how “Spring Bouquet” blossomed. Q. Where are you based? A. I’m currently based in Brooklyn, NY but I’m in LA often. I’m now considering basing myself between NOLA and Los Angeles with a random side of NYC. Q. What are some your favorite things to do in your free time? A. I love language, film and cinema, live music, travel and comedy. I love laughter. I love running, biking and butterflies. I’m also obsessed with purging and Konmari-ing my home and closet. Often. Q. Why photography? what made you decide to pursue photography? A. I had studied art (drawing, painting, sculpture, photography) at LaGuardia High School of Music & Art, the sister school of the “Fame” school. I already had a background in art and basic photography and B&W printing. During a semester abroad in Paris, I met someone who made an introduction and I landed an internship with Mark Seliger. During my last year of college, I was working in music and on shoots with rock bands for covers of Rolling Stone. It kind of just magically happened and I felt more confident exploring this medium. Q. What inspires you? A. Color. Absolutely color, light, glitter, texture, nails, make-up, art. Bowie. Warhol. Basquiat. Paris. NOLA. Back to color. Lots and lots of color. Q. If you could take photos of anyone, who would it be and why? A. Bianca and Mick Jagger during the late 60’s, with make-up and fashion accessories. Iconic beauty with unique and exquisite features. They were a huge influence on me. Q. 3 fun facts about youself: A. I had a 4 foot pet Green Iguana for 13 years named Godzilla and she was awesome. I’m obsessed with transformation. American Ware Wolf in London, Caterpillars into Butterflies, and models with clean faces into elaborate beauty narratives. I’m psychic and can manifest random events in my life. Q. Where do you see yourself in 10 years? A. Down on the Bayou & continuing shooting campaigns and editorials in LA and NY.
